I've used a couple of €500 bills before when I had to send some cash Western Union, so I guess if the situation presented itself, I would use the $500 bill. But it's not very practical unless you're going to use the bulk of it on one instance.

There aren't many things that cost that much which can be bought frequently enough to merit having a note. It would end up being used like a cheque - you exchange fifties at a bank for one, buy something with it, and since the vendor can't spend it, they take it back to the bank. Simpler just to write a cheque.

Although it better than the way I paid for my computer, $600 in coins.

That's one big jar.

I am not sure if I would use one. How about you send me one when they are in circulation and I will try to answer your question?

I once ate a £50,000 meal - accidentally (it was a Hoolahoop) :(

The risks associated with a $500 doesn't compare to aggressive feeding with no light, and accidentally dropping $500 down a drain or losing your wallet is comparitively easilly to shrug off.

Besides, $500 is much better than 500x $1 bills :)

I cannot answer the poll. Hording radioactive monkeys is more apropriate than either of the options.

They certainally have gone up in price since I last bought them. I gather you ate a prize or some such?

Yup. Find the funny shaped hoolaphoop and win £50,000.

The really ironic thing is, I was seriously poor student at the time. I had just spent my last £0.20 on a packet of hoolahoops... and I didn't have a television, so never saw the adverts... and didn't learn of it until I got home and popped the packaging in the bin.

By then it was too late... the funny shaped hoolahoop was well and truelly digested. I was really hungry, it was the only meal I had that day, and it was dark outside when I poured the contents of the packaging into my eager mouth.

I remember crushing the thing between my teeth. Thinking "that's odd - must be a manufacturing glitch" :p

I counted myself lucky because it bigger than an ordinary hoolahoop :crazyeye:

We have up to the $10000 bill here, IIRC.

It's certainly useful for when needing to carry large amounts of cash, for some reason or another.

Never even had a 500€ bill in my hands, let alone that I would use it.
IMO, it's mostly used by gangsters and other politicians.

I generally don't use any cash, except for once every month or two to pay a parking meter, so a $500 bill would just be a big bill that I never used.

How the hell do you eat a hollahoop?

Maybe you crazy Brits use that word differently than us, but in America, a hullahoop is a large plastic ring girls spin around their waists.

EDIT: Hollahoop, hullahoop, whatever.

 Yes, one of our cultural differences. We do have hullahoops like you, but they are also a brand of small round crisp (chip as you chaps say). :)

In the NL a lot of shops don't accept the 200 Euro or 500 Euro bill, because they don't have the cash to pay you back.
Doesn't that make huge bills (like a 500 dollar bill) impractical ?

Crisp is an adjective. You can't eat it.

;)

This could go on and on, btw.
I have been made to eat my words many a time. ;)

I have heard that the 500 euro note is now the bill of choice for smugglers since they can get more money into smaller places than they could with the American $100 bill (the previous bill of choice for smugglers, black marketeers and counterfieters). I can imagine how much organized crime would love it if we had both 500 dollar and euro notes floating around.
