WW2-Global

Hi, Rocoteh.
I'm Max from Italy, sorry for my bad english, but I have to write to you because I have a problem: I have Civ III, PTW, and Conquests, today I tried to install WW2-Global but, at the moment of the start, the game tell to me that is not possible to find some unit (I have some of this unit, but in Italian language, and I haven't some unit in all my folder) and the game stop at this point.
Do I need some unit expansion pack for this scenario?
Thanks for your kindness and congratulations for your scenarios (I hope to try some of these in the next days).

You need to download both the Global World War 2 folder (with units) and the map, which seems like you already have.

Thank you Alcosta. I have the "huge" file (134Mb) and the little file (.bic).
Is there another file? Where can I find it?
Thank you very much!

PS. I love the Redskins too!:scan:

Max1973,

That is the files you need.

Its important that you place these files in the Scenario-folder of Conquests.
A very common mistake is that the files are placed in Scenario-folder of
CIV 3 instead.
In such a case you will get an error-message.

Thanks Rocoteh, but I placed these files in the right folder.
I think my problem is the language.
I have an italian version of Civ3 and C3C, and the game ask to me some units (like Infantry) but I have these files in Italian folder (Fanteria).
The file inside the "Fanteria folder" is in English, so I copy the folder and rename this in English.
The solution is ok, I think, but the work is huge!!!
I hope there is a Patch to translate all units name, but I don't find it!
Thanks a lot and sorry for my bad english!

Max1973,

No problem.

As you say it will require many hours of work.
I hope you will find an easier and faster way to solve this.

Thanks Rocoteh.
I changed the name and move some folder.
Now there isn't any error but the game is locked at the point of "configuration scenario".
I try in another way.

Hi there,

I used to have a similar problem and as you correctly concluded the differentiating language version was the culprit. Eventually I found a small patch on a local Civ3 fan page that created the proper folders with an English designation ... very useful indeed.

All the best

Max1973,

Then it works at is should.
At this point you must wait 5-30 minutes depending on
how much capacity the computer has.

otacon_22,

Sounds like an interesting idea.
I will have it in mind.

Thank you.

Rocoteh

An intersting idea indeed. But I have some concerns: The time of the Q ships was mainly in ww1. In ww2 Q ships were also used on both sides, but with little success. German Q ships for example sank only two allied submarines. And even in ww1 the success rate wa minimal. The Allied Q ships then sank only 12 Uboats, but had at least as twice losses.
Also, as another difficulty, there are no civil freighter lurking around, so that Q ships or auxiliar cruiser are difficulty to introduce.

Adler,

Yes you are right:

There are problems with this.

Anyway I do not plan to introduce anymore new units with version
2.3. New units will be with version 2.4 since I want to focus on the
important changes earlier discussed.

SOE contains a nice auxiliary cruiser (G162 DKM Q-ship Auxiliary). :)

Eagerly awaiting 2.3. When might we be blessed with it?

Your faithful WW2-Global addict

imgrumpy,

Thank you.

I plan to release it 3 weeks from now.
It can be earlier though.

Civnator, I know. However from game mechanics I do have problems of figuring out a suitable system to introduce. I mean such a ship was nearly not able to cope with a modern warship. The only successful sinking of a warship was the fight of Kormoran vs. HMAS Sydney. In every other case the auxiliar cruiser was sunk. And also in this fight Kormoran was lost after it.
So how to introduce? Giving them stats of a CL in attack, low defence and stealth? That is the only working system. But for what to engage as most enemies are warships? As I am one of the beta tester for SOE I had some thoughts about that. But no real decisions were made nor a discussion started yet. And I also will not discuss anything about SOE here! All will be related to ww2 global, to be clear.

Yes, and I hope it will be available in next time to all, especially to this outstanding scenario.

The enemies are merchand ships of course. After the release of AOI, I think this is the new naval standard for C3C scenarios. Convoys and single merchand ships were a speciality of WW2. The "fixed-allies" problem could be nicely countered with seatrading lanes. :) This methode is especially well suited for WW 2 scenarios. The bases to start (and may be to end) convoys are invisible cities.

AoI has a good working system, but this is depending on raw materials brought home from the colonies. There such a ship would be a good addition indeed. However even if we add raw materials here, some states had no possibility to bring them home or do not have any colonies, like Germany. Also it is in no way an aim to bring them home, but to conquer the world. The AI is too limited in this regard.

Adler

Adler,

The CIV 3 game-engine was made without any ambitions to reflect
Strategic Warfare, thus I think it will be very hard to simulate it.
