WW2 Mod, Including Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, new Units etc...

The new patch is here! Any thought on putting in a few cities and a world map to make it more realistic?

I see you've done a lot of work with this scenario...


I'm working on a MOD named "1939" - it will be WWII scenario too, but i think it will be different from yours in some ways...

I want to make pure-war szenario like the old CivIIs, and so I'm only using the main civs, and some "side-show-civs" and neutrals to have no unsettled land on the earth map (As it had been in CivII Mods becuause of the lack of civ-slots).

I wantet to have many diffeent unit's but all with their own graphics. In the meainwhile there are plenty of them!
Thank's to all unit graphic makers!

I stopped working on it for a while now becuase of the few useful tools. Now with 1.29f I'm back!

when the first playable version is out, I will make up a threat.

I hope you forgive me if I'm using your thread for some general questions, but this thread is full of WWII-players, and so a discussion would improve the quality of our MODs enormous!

I would suggst the following civs:


I made all Governments usefull for wars and great armies. The differnet names are mostly only because of "optical" reasons.

CIV - LEADER - GOV

Main Civs

Achsenmächte - Adolf Hitler - Imperialism
Sowjetunion - Josef Stalin - Communism
British Empire - Winston Churchill - Monarchy
Japanese Empire - Hirohito - Imperialism
USA - Franklin Roosevelt - Republic

"Side Roll" Civs
España - Francisco Franco - Dictatorship

The map

I play on a very huge realistic world-map, but I altered some continents, to reflect the importness in WWII

- Europe and the British Island became much bigger
- Africa became smaller (Space for Europe)
- The Asian Continent got shortendend (Space for Europe)
- Japan became much bigger
- The Oceans became smaller (bigger Europe,)
- A lot of Island were added in the pacific (e.g. some french islands)
- Hawaii became bigger
- America was big enough, so I left it unchanged...

Theis looks like a very promising mod so far. But i was wondering why you left out a few countrys.

Canada - although some people feel that they were working as the British army, i brlieve they worked indepentenly and had much importance to WW2

Finland - I was thinking you could maybe add them as a Side-Roll if not a main civ. They were a very important civ, because they fought in a few different parts of the war, the main one against Russia who was trying to overtake her most of the war. They put up an unbelievable fight when they were vastly outnumbered.

i do everything in the instructions and when i start the mod it says the game rules have been changed for this scenario. then it goes to normal new game screen and starts like a normal new game instead of scen

That's true I know, but I will include it into the British to make the game more balanced.

Dee, there is a compact but well armed Germany (Axis) and Japan that will expand like a circle and becoming big.

There is a huge compact Sovjetunion, and a huge compact USA...

If the british would only get their Island, they had no chance in this game.

So theiy get Canada, India and the Rest of their colonies....

Yeah - At the moment I have only the neutral Europeans - but I can seperate them into nations maybe...

But Finnland wouldn't have more that 2 cities in the max. I don't thinks thats a palyable game for a human.

I thought about a one-city suisse - friend to everyone - maybe with a special cheap unit that can be bought by the others ;)

That's simple. As you noted I have no Germany but the Achsenmächte (Axis) - there is Italy included...

I had the Idea to have italy seperated - but that wouldn't be good for play because of several reasons:

1) Italy would be very small even with Abessinia (Etheopia) included

2) Germany would have problems to move to Africa, because the freindship things work not always like eccepted

3) Over all - Mussolini inspirated Hitler, but in the War Mussolini and Italy was totaly dependent on Germany (you know - Italy only fought Abbesinia alone - all other italian wars like the one against Geek got won by the Germans)

So I decided to include Italy to the Axis - like nearly all WWII games that play on a World map.




I try to make a historical acceptable (100% correctness is utopical) AND a fun-playable game. Therefore I have to make some "workarounds"
 
The mod crushed on me!

When it's loading a warning came out saying that there's a missing entry in "text\Pedialcons.txt": TECH_Amphibious_War
Then the programme(Civ3) just closed.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems?
And what should I do about it?
 
Will you be making this into a scenario with the new patch?
 
1939 Sounds promosing, I went to your site and downloaded to see what units you would be including since you are not nearly done and don't have the graphics. But, you still had the names. I'm happy that you're including things like Waffen SS, but is that the final list of units or will you be getting more, if it is the final I'm very sorry for you:) Since their is not on specialized Russian tank (T-34, IS2, KV-1, KV-2, etc). Again it seemed to be the final list or else you should have not included the damn folders/file names at all. Also browsin thru the folders, and seeing what you would be including sounded promising. When do you expect it to be complete?

At fist I looked what graphics do I have yet..

All of them will be included... And much more!

A main point of my idea is to add as many units as possible!!!

What I wanted to say in adition:

There will be leaderheads, a complete civclopedia and such things too....
But only the txts snd the Unit foders and inis will be copied into the main Civ Directory

The Rest will be outside in the Scenarios/1939 folder.

Units will all have different names, or will use the original graphics, so that only the TXTs will be overwritten.
That makes the backup far more easy!


And dnon't worry about the unit- folders at the moment they are OLD!!!
I think over the weekend there will be several updates, beause the weather isn't fine enough to go swimming :D

If I'm civing I don't want any good weather !!!

If you are going to do the WWII modification - I think you should have much stronger fighter planes. The fighters in the regular Civ III game has been a little disappointing (against ground forces). Especially if there is going to be a WWII scenario.
Remember, the allies completely shut down Nazi Germany's ability to move around during the day (that is why Battle of the Bulge was so initially successful for the Nazis - it was during a winter storm and the planes couldn't fly).
Bombers seem to be fine. Air to ground fighters need to be much improved.
 
pi8ch why are u putting a T-55 in 1939? dosnt fit the timeframe
 
He's doing it because somebody (Smoking Mirror) made a unit graphic for it. I guess that since it is Civ3, the war might not end like it did in real life. So you might get early cold-war units, or atleast I think that's what he's doing!
