XCOM spreads CIV love!

It's crashing

this game is currently unavailable ( application running )

:(

You have to go to your processes in the Task Manager and kill XCOM manually.

This happens when my Shogun 2 crashes as well.

I did, no good. Each and every save would crash within minutes. Had to revert to reinstalling, played a short mission, no crash so far. So far so good. *fingers crossed*

What type of computer do you have and what graphics level? I had quite a bit of crashing on my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T420) until I set my graphics settings on low.

I play on Low settings (frankly I don't see much difference anyway), and only had one crash in a mission so far. The game is remarkably stable for the first release version.

Couldn't tell you right now. I'd need to check (not behind it right now). Never had any problems so that's not an issue. After reinstalling Steam told me about a missing file, it loaded it down and it's fine now. Just had a terrorlevel with the flames and stuff and it ran fine.

The 2 discs, 6 mutons and 3 chrysalids which appeared right after the first end turn weren't however. Ended that one with 2 guys on 1 hp and only because I had the 'Dont die on me' perk I think :shifty:

Oh, my thing wasn't to solve the crashes, just to get rid of the application unavailable error. Your game crashes, but is still running according to the task manager, so in order to start it up again you have to kill it.

I've been really enjoying this game for the few hours I've been playing it. The interface section is a little weird. It jumps around a lot; that part's kind of annoying. I feel like it could do a better job warning you about things in combat--I got burned a couple of times thinking I'd be able to do something when I couldn't--but once you've learned the rules it's pretty fun.

My squad seems to be overrun with South Africans for some reason, and my original veteran is from Argentina. The only guy I have from a major country is a French sniper I got as a reward.

The first terror mission ate my lunch. I lost 2 of 3 lieutenants (a sniper and my only assault) and a corporal. Oof.

This is only normal. Obviously I have a lot of work to do.

Yeah, about that:

This was part of an absolutely brutal game day. First I went into a 'very difficult' mission and came out without any casualties (though one was pretty close). I felt pretty good about that one. Then I went immediately into the terror mission and thought I was doing really good until... yeah. :( Two redshirts and a captain dead, and my other one significantly injured. At days end:

That hurts. I'm not sure if it's catastrophic or not (I think not, but I don't know.. if all the missions are going to be harder now, I'm probably screwed) but I'll definitely have to take it easy for a while...

I stuck in a vicious cycle with this game. I get too attached to my troops and end up restarting when the inevitable massacre occurs... I am getting further into the game each time though thanks to a very refined starting strategy.
