XTR1--- Regent SG

Barbs are cool, let's have them on roaming. We need the gold from sacking their camps and the free upgrades. ;) Hakon- with a large map, we're not going to get stick on a small island with two others. I tried a pangea once and I was on the uber-island with two others. THREE civs got stuck on one island that wasn't even the size of an eighth of my kingdom- and that was before I killed my neighbors off for treachery.

This is not a signup, but I'd like to make a couple of suggestions...

First off: If you're going to go for space race on a level like regent, a pangaea map would be a good idea, 'cause the tech pace is faster on pangaea then on continents/archipelago. And a fast tech pace is more interesting if you're going to go for space.

Second: If you want a large map, i'd suggest picking a civ with a fast UU, like china, russia of the ottomans, to fully benefit from your GA.

Third: Sedentary is indeed very boring, go for at least some barbarian activity.

Fourth: Sick a scientific civ if you can. That's alway helpful in the tech race towards spaceship techs...

Have fun... :)

thanks darkness, seems to me we should be ottomans (arent they scientific and industrious) plus they have a fast UU.

Settings:

-large map
-pangea?
-roaming barbs
-default civs

How do those settings sound?

I could sign up, since it is PTW.

Ideal starting conditions for me

-Large
-Continents
-Restless Barbs
-Cool
-Wet

I would of course be willing to do a pangea map, but it's not what I'm good at.

I like India, but the ottomans would be okay.

Might I suggest editing-in the starting conditions into your first post?

Welcome aboard Affirmative--

Looks like we have 4 players now, so i guess we could go ahead and start it up. I cant play today because i have a huge school project i need to get done, but if any of you can take it please do so, i want to get this show on the road and could care less if im the one who starts us of

Do you have a starting save?

Anyone a good opening player?

Refresh my memory; haven't played Ottomans yet. Unit is a Siphai, three moves, ignores movement costs for mountains and hills?

Isn't there some PTW UU that ignores those costs?

Oh, by the way, I took the liberty of giving the game an interesting name. (Fourth link in my sig)

I was searching for a good start, and stumbled upon a good one, but I had to take over the world, too great to resist. :(

I haven't played SG's before, but would be interested if there's still a spot to fill?

Monarch please, but then any other settings are fine with me, whatever you choose. I have to agree to what darkness said before tho, I'm a horsemen junkie :)

And yeah, set barbs to restless at least, you need to create some easy elites.

Regent it is then and I'm in.

What rules do we have? I prefer playing without abuse and such.

Okay, here are the settings.

Here is our starting save.

And the position.

Not much more you can ask for, except for a coast. :goodjob:

Nice starting spot, 4-turn settler factory with cow and wine irrigated. A few warriors for scouting and a settler, then granary in the beginning would be the way to go.

No one said Got it! yet, I'm too humble to say it in my first SG game :) and besides I'm last on the list anyways. But if it is not taken when I come back later....? We can easily have 12-15 cities with a start like this around 1000bc, depending on what our goals are.

Coast is not necessary, we are playing pangea I think?

Yes we are playing pangea. Please take the starting save. I have issues starting up a factory. :p

Remember, there are barbs, we can't send out our settlers unguarded, so we will need another city to build warriors.

*hint* 4 to the south-east

I have stuff to do atm and will be back in 4-5 hrs, and if no one objects I set up a juicy factory then. There are some problems to keep it running smoothly, but I explain that later for those who are interested :)

Until then, any ideas on research etc? Trading won't be a big problem on regent and pangea, so I suggest to go for either alphabet or the wheel. The wheel is cheaper and I like horses as I said before, so I want to know where they are ASAP. This is after Pottery of course.

And one more thing, what are your opinions on buying workers? Some consider it crippling the AI if you buy them early, but I don't :)
