With Feudalism, we got another option.

Options are

Tribalism
Slavery
Serfdom
Caste System
Abstain

Voted caste system in hopes that we'll be able to combine it with representation and mercantilism (after some research) to help alleviate our deficit while increasing science output.

Don't complain, at least they can choose civic for a change, something we haven't seen for a while. Feel like John McClane here.

The details of the options are:

Tribalism: Low Upkeep

Slavery: Low Upkeep, may sacrafice citizens to finish a project

Serfdom: Low Upkeep 50% faster worker build

Caste System: Medium Upkeep, unlimited artists, scientists, and merchants

Hope that helps dave

Grant 2004, that is plain lazyness of Dave here. I assumed people got an idea about these options. That is one thing. But Civfanatics have several tables and articles as well as advanced models and so on, a just few clicks away, on this site. It is at his fingertips, so to speak. No need to turn on the game.

I'm not the only one who thinks that full information disclosure is the right way to run a game which is of, by, and for the people. The burden of proof that a change is a good idea goes on the player(s) suggesting the change.

Definitely serfdom for me. Caste system is interesting when there are multiple cities which can afford to run multiple specialists without impact, and I don't think we're developed enough for that.

I agree 100 % with Dave here. Our cities are to little developed to make sense with Caste System. We are a sprawling empire with hardly developed infrastructure, endless jungles and forests to chop, and numerous resources to hook up with. Serfdom does that at 50 % more speed, and we need these inputs to get to the level Caste System kicks in.

A couple of more votes for serfdom here, so we can produce at least some infrastructure in our country with only 11 workers here. Give me a hand :)

I need to get a closer look at the game, but I've always loved running Caste System and Representation together and I believe we're about to pick up the Pyramids from Berlin. I'm not for sure though if Representation will work good for our nation having only looked at my four cities.

I started a thread on what specialists we could use if Caste System were adopted. So far, I see no benefit from it whatsoever. The civic cost would increase by 6gpt, and EA, the city we talked about being a GP farm, would lose gpt if we tried to use the specialist capacity we already have there.

I suggest analyzing our specific solution to see which civic actually benefits us.

If serfdom does not pass, I rather ask for several workers.

Now we need a last "Serfdom" vote, so we can begin to work this vast continent we control 80 % of.

My fault, surely; but,

Six partners voted for caste, no one said which city/s shall have more specialist

(scientist? merchant? artist?) than allowed by related buildings;

Six partners voted for serfdom, no one tells about the desired number of workers

improvements to make and where, so, time movement v. actual improve time

can give us the number of workers' tasks/turn to be gained;

Also nothing said about the gain from slavery, and IMHO would be interesting to

balance the gain of slavery with the gain of serfdom.

Best regards,

I based my decision off what I felt worked best with my aimag. That doesn't mean that's what I feel is best for the empire. In all honesty, I haven't had the time to look the whole empire over.

If you're curious, you can check the What specialists will we use? thread for my statements on why I went against Caste System. As for Slavery, I don't believe I have enough food resources to make it worth it and I'm attempting to grow my cities to their limits, so Slavery would go against that. Plus, I have plans for my workers and Serfdom would benefit that plan.

I find no fault with your questions and belive they are appropiate to ask. I hope my answers satisfy you.

We got 11 workers right now, assume we got 12 workers. With Serfdom, these workers gain 50 % efficiency. This means, only the upkeep for 6 more worker is 6 gold per turn more.

The Caste System is premature, as most cities have not grown enough to make specialists a feasible option. This is why serfdom comes earlier in the game, as we normally develop the land to the point cities get bigger, and caste system makes sense. Some citizens want to jump there right away, even if most of the land is underdeveloped. Daveshack and Methos did some analysis, and none of them supported Caste System.

Imagine if we had say 20 workers, then these would work like 30 workers.
Right now, the bonus means one to two cleared forest tiles per turn, with 20 workers, the bonus would mean 3-5 tiles of road per turn. This is volumes of economics. Also, Serfdom is a low cost civic, whereas Caste System is medium cost, with a difference of about 7-8 gold per turn. This means that the gold cost difference in upkeep alone is 15 or so gold, minimum.

Now add the advantage of adding hammers from chopped trees, cleared jungles and so on. Knowing Brazil, they would be in a very bad position for example, if they could not chop the jungle.
