It's history. Europeans and their descendants were lucky. Now, the height of their power is long gone and the West is going to get weaker and weaker, compared to other civilizations. Maybe it will appease the West-haters.

I suppose if you count Latin America in as western then you have a huge "influince" reserve.
I hope western takes on a new life - like Latino beyond ethnicity or language.

I think its because that members are changing in time. For me its hard to say that for example Portugal is same as Norway. Only definition which I see is "white-christians and money". Its also funny that many Czech books in the writes about "west"(yeh west, not about western europe or something like this) and in H. map is Czech Republic member of this. I find this term simply unclear. And Phillipines is personally for me much less western than Serbia.

Geographically
America's, and Europe.

Another definition is that the west is a highly industrialized area with people having spare time for leisure.

Mine however is
"The west can be described as anywhere that popular culture supercedes traditional culture."
So look at the kids if they listen to Gangsta Rap it's western if they listen to bagpipes then it's not westernized.

Just that, In reality they are not any poorer than countries far eastern europe. I think it is because we are not 100% white, maybe they think we have so sort of secret black-indio traditions.

Latin America (especially Central and South America) self identifies with the pre Columbian past, not with the West. Thats why Morales in Bolivia was inaugurated wearing a grass skirt and doing a raindance, and nobody laughed.

Why would they? Bush pushes farm subsidys, talks about how important they are and how much he loves his ranch - when the fact of the matter is his family hasn't worker on a farm in the 185 years his family has been in America.

The same with the grass skirt stuff, they are trying to look good for the "commen man". ATM I have some Bolivians living in my house, they seem pretty normal to me *shrug*
