Wines! Not only do they give the extra food, they're just very pretty to look at. :D

Ivory for the SoZ and Gems for the gold.

No surprise: Ivory taking the majority of the votes (SoZ). Wines in second because of the food. No votes for Spices and Dyes :lol:

Draw between furs and wines. But furs usually mean I am stuck near the icy wastes and wines mean I am in grassy meadows. So I'll take wines on balance.

I voted for Furs for the shield bonus, but then forgot that Wines:
- give +1 food on irrigated Grass, even in Despotism;
- can turn hills into uber-squares (2 food, 3 shields, 2+ commerce depending on govt, GA, etc.)

So I should've voted for Wines, but only on Grass or Hills.

Ivory is great in C3C for SoZ of course but average-joe-lux in PtW.

Gotta go with Ivory. If I hear any complaints from PETA, my Ancient Cavalry know how to deal with them.

Gems. The greatest possible archievement for me is to find a place with 4 or five gems, found a city there and place Kopernikus, Newton and SETI there.

Make it more extreme. Play as England (C3C), commercial and seafaring commercial boost. Coastal capital on the border between jungle (gem tiles) and beautiful grassland (couple of cattle tiles). A nice river should run there of course. Colossus, marketplace, bank, Copernicus, Newton, stock exchange, commercial dock, SETI...

That would be nice!

:)

I voted wines but I'd like a neighbor to have Ivory for the aforementioned SoZ.

Gems in Vanilla - the extra commerce benefits and saves in so many different ways. Commerce is harder to create/enhance with workers than shields and food.

Ivory in Conquests, duh!

Actually I voted for gems then remembered SoZ, double duh!

Without the SoZ availability ivory has the same commercial effect as spices.
