Hi all,

there's one thing regarding RA cancellation that I am unable to grasp. I understand the RA will no longer be in effect if one of the civilizations is conquered or when the two are no longer satisfied with a peaceful co-existence and are going to scratch each other's eyes.
But what are the conditions to cancel a RA if there's neither a conquest nor a war happening?
It happened to me last evening (while researching together with Bismarck). There was no war going on between us (we were not at war at all during the game) and he managed to cancel all the ongoing agreements. I envied him for this ability.

Thanks,
Ivan

Was there something else in the RA trade (like a resource) that you or he were no longer able to provide?

That would be my guess too. It's consistent with that screenshot. If any part of a deal fails the whole thing does.

Was cotton involved in the deal you made with Bismark by any chance? It looks like what may have happened is when Wu took Cologne Bismark lost his only sources of cotton and if that was part of the trade then the whole thing would have been cancelled, including the RA.

Didn't think of that.
For sure I threw in some resources and cash (I was about 15-20 techs ahead), but honestly don't recall to lose access to any resource so the deal could possibly go belly up.
And definitely Bismarck was offering nothing more than the RA itself.

However, since this is the only reasonable scenario I'll take it.
Thanks guys.

Don't recall exactly. What I know is 4 or 5 nations declared together on Bismarck (who misbehaved earlier), about the time of the screenshot Hiawatha started to push and took 2 or 3 of his northern cities. Which were later claimed by Wu.
I have to accept some resource was somehow involved then became unavailable.

Perhaps one of the following happened:
- You lost alliance status with a CS that was providing the resource
- A barbarian or enemy soldier barricaded your resource
- A barbarian or enemy soldier barricaded your ally CS's resource, or your CS got culture-bombed and lost their resource.

You can always check the deal history in the diplomacy overview if you want to be sure what happened. You can't trade resources gained from a city-state and if a CS is providing you with a duplicate of a resource you already have, trade yours away and then lose the CS alliance you just take a happiness hit. If you lose the resource but still have a CS supplying it the deal is broken but your happiness isn't affected.

He didn't cancel it: you lost access to or stopping having whatever resource/luxury, etc. that was also included in the RA trade.

I learned this the hard way. Never compound trades of other items with an RA as it can come back to haunt you later.
