I have no problem with the idea of school uniforms, so if some school wants to implement it, go for it. Did I feel differently when I was in high school? Possibly, but as I've said previously, I rapidly lost any sympathy for minor issues once I ceased to be one.

Also, what the hell are are you smoking? Going on about Missouri schools as though everyone farts rainbows and nobody picks on anyone else??

Wow. In Ohio, and I'm guessing anywhere else outside of Missouri, big overcrowded urban high schools are not so nice.

Conformity pressures within and between cliques signaled by clothing style and price can and do result in ostracizing, hazing and humiliation.

When the "uniform movement" began back in the 90's, it also had the effect of eliminating gang colors in the high schools.

Needless to say, Universities enroll adults, where dress codes are much less important.

This, seriously. Do you have any idea how annoying it is seeing people walking around with their pants around their ankles?

Also, Californian schools often do have strict dress codes because of the gang violence that tends to prop up as a result of clothing. (An example, no NY Yankees Caps, no blue or red shoelaces, no bandanas of any kind)

There is of course a third alternative; a dress code. This is what I had in sixth form and it worked very well. Suits for the guys, generally smart clothes for the girls.

Most sixth forms have that now. Works well but the students need to buy their own suits, which frankly isn't much of an option for a lot of the families of students who will leave at 16. I never owned a suit until well into my twenties; our family simply couldn't have afforded one.

Pig, you can get a suit for £30 these days if you look around. For £100 carefully spent you can dress better than the teachers. Sure there should be a hardship fund, but, dam, you can get some sweet suits in the second hand stalls if you are prepared to take a day at it. Three piece pin stripe 100% wool hand stiched in Hong Kong for fifty quid if you can be bothered to try on dozens of suits to find one that fits perfectly.

I dont got opinion on school uniforms. however I prefer to wear comfortable clothes. a lot of fabrics irritate my skin (maybe an Aspie thing) and for some reason blue jeans give me weird rashes.

Even for boys?

If you're into that sort of thing. Well generally male cheerleader uniforms are just tracksuits, but obviously not the point of my post.

I'm fine with almost anything, I just can't stand people showing up to class in pajama bottoms.

I would rather be oppressed.

But if we're making them wear uniforms, I would prefer a suit/skirt combo, not the crappy polos they call a "school uniform" over here.

down with uniforms

Polo shirts suck.

Polo shirts suck.

Polos in limited situations can be ok, but the stuff they force the kids to wear down here (green/yellow/white only) look disgusting.

If I had to wear the same getup every day, I would want it to look a little sharper.

Also, I'm sure this saves money for lower income families. Spend less on BACK2SKOOL clothing sprees.

Meh. I just buy and wear cheap novelty T-shirts. :dunno:

I always wanted a "I <3 Toxic Waste" t-shirt and pink bunny slippers.

I wore pajama bottoms all the time last year. They're comfortable, stylish, and they cry for attention.
I don't know why, but that just screams homosexual to me. No offense meant
