Mike Johnson slams Mamdani win

Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson says the "consequences" of New York City electing a "true extremist and Marxist" will be felt across the country.

"Zohran Mamdani’s election cements the Democrat Party's transformation to a radical, big-government socialist party," Johnson writes on X.

Johnson adds that every Democrat in the House will be to blame for "Mamdani’s disastrous record in the 2026 midterms".

"With exactly one year to go until the 2026 elections, the contrast between our parties has never been more clear."

His victory speech is excellent.

Billionares hate this guy, which is all I need to know that he's doing something right.

It's a New York City primary and I don't care too much. People just make it sound big because a lot of opinion journalist publications are housed there, so of course things tend to get amplified.
A Large population count to boot.

Just wanted to chime in that the ballot was rigged for the Dems.

Probably because they cant outright buy an election.

NYC electing a Social Democratic type shouldn't be a big surprise.
I heard billionares spent big to Cuomo's campaign which if true makes me happy. If that is the case, that means they badly don't want the democratic socialist to win. Sort of related, when walmart employees in a canadian town unionized, walmart responded by leaving the town. That means they were genuinely terrified of the union, despite their claims unions are a scam that don't help employees. I expect some billionares to leave new york for tax evasion, but that dosen't mean most people won't be better off.

The Donald refers to London as Londonistan ever since the Londoners elected a Muslim mayor.

I wonder what terminology he will use for New York City now?

Probably more precedent.

It seems that is true.

The thing that gets me is the amount of prominent democrats who supported the opposition to the official democrat candidate. With all that is going on in the US fighting with ones own side seems stupid and counterproductive. I hope this is a lesson they have learnt for the next couple of elections.

Yeah they're going to start sabotaging him, probably by cutting off federal funding to NYC. The outgoing mayor might also resort to scorched earth on the way out to trash the city civil service and bureaucracy as much as possible before he gets in. Also plants might be left behind to engineer as many scandals as possible.

They might do some other hanky panky like engineering a disaster in NY harbor with like a tanker or freighter that explodes blocking all imports from sea into the city while blaming Mamdani for incompetence possible loss of life.

Mahmood Mamdani (father of Zohran) on his introduction to Marx:

I was in my room. There was a knock at the door. Two gentlemen in trench coats and hats said, “FBI.” I thought, “Wow, just like on television.” They sat down. They were there to find out why I had gone – because this turned out to be big – it is after Montgomery that King organized his march on Selma. They wanted to know who had influenced me. After one hour of probing, the guy said, “Do you like Marx?”

I said, “I haven’t met him.”

Guy said, “No, no, he’s dead.”

“Wow, what happened?”

“No, no, he died long ago.”

I thought the guy Marx had just died. So then, “Why are you asking me if he died long ago?”

“No, he wrote a lot. He wrote that poor people should not be poor.”

I said, “Sounds amazing.”
