1.52 Patch Available

That's to stop a MP exploit where the player can jump ahead in score using an end-of-game settler/Great Artist rush.
Is it just score or land area towards victory?

Can't wait to try it.

great - thanks for the support Firaxis!! Merry Christmas :king:

Downloading right now. I am happy there is a new patch available. However, it makes you wonder why they put out a game with such obvious flaws in the first place. If you need two major patches within the first month or so, maybe the release date was too soon...

Crimson Shadow,

Many thanks for the link, If I had waited until I have the game installed on Sunday, and tried to update on my dial up I would not be playing until the new year.

If you are having problems with the patch, I have a couple of recommendations off the top of my head. NOTE: I have not installed it yet, and don't know if these will help. Just speaking from experience as a programmer (15 years).

1. I wouldn't try to continue a pre-patch saved game. I would stand up and applaud Firaxis if the patch DID work with a previously saved game. I would suspect some of the issues with commerce getting screwed up, etc. are related to this.

2. If you have made permanent changes to any existing files. Ala Hark's fix (God bless him), I would do a clean install, and then patch. And I know I'm stating the obvious to many, but... make sure you have the latest directX, video drivers, etc.

2b. Not trying to be harsh, but for the dude with Windows Me. STOP BUYING GAMES AND GET XP!!! 'ME' IS CRAP! YOU WILL BE ECSTATICALLY HAPPY THAT YOU DID IT!!! Whew, glad to get that off my chest.

3. Read the README! It has been posted here. It indirectly references the fact that you should not attempt to continue to use Hark's fix among other things.

4. Although I know it pisses you off to install the patch and have things work worse than before on a product you paid good money for, try to be patient. Software is incredibly complex and difficult to develop for the PC (because of all the different possible configurations). This is why the PC game market is shrinking and video games are taking over. Firaxis took a HUGE risk releasing this before Christmas in an attempt to make folks happy. If the patch caused any major regression (which it appears it may have) guess who has to work over the Holidays!

Hope this is helpful! Merry Christmas!

J.

Just DL'd it this morning and it seems to be running fine so far (haven't played any serious games yet, just opened a few saves and looked around.)

Has anybody else checked out the new graphs? They're *awesome* compared to the old ones. Since they're line graphs, rather than the old system, you can telll with a glance exactly where you stand against the other civs in power, GNP, etc. :goodjob:

One tip for people... when I used the in-game check for updates, my system totally froze (couldn't swap out, nothing). Finally figured out it was my firewall (standard Norton that came with my pc), changed the Civ INI to run in windowed mode, and THEN I could finally see the popup so I could choose "always allow this program to access the internet".

Ahhhhh!...

Wodan: I wish I'd seen your post half an hour ago, I forgot about my damn firewall and was wondering why the update link wasn't doing anything and I couldn't do anything else (had to reset the PC to get out of it, Norton here too). Do'H!!!!

No matter, I downloaded the file someone posted to an alternative server and I'm good to go now. :D

Patch works well in all respects, save that my domestic advisor screen no longer appears--either by using the button, or F1. However, I am running Sevomod 1.0, and there may be a conflict, there.

Well, the new patch works up thru Large Scenarios for me, whereas Hark's patch allowed me to load up "Huge" scenarios. That tells me that Firaxis's "Official" patch probably releases in the neighborhood of 200 to 300 Mbytes Less memory, than Hark's patch.

Set MemorySaver=1 int the config ini file (it defaults to 0) for the maximum amount of memory reduction. However, alt-tab isn't supported with that on.

Thamer I having trouble joining multiplayer games with this patches . any ideas?

I cannot find this option in any of the "config" ini files which I have looked in under my Civ 4 folders. Can anyone tell me exactly which file this is (the exact folder and where in the file this might appear??)

The MemorySaver option will be written to the config in file once you run the game (152) for the first time.

I was waiting for patch #2 before buying civ4. Now I feel like the game is ready enough for me!!!

If you think about it, what you did or are doing is a little on the silly side. What's the difference in waiting for the second patch or buying the game when released? The game's not comiing down in price; and in not buying Civ IV outright, you lose experience time.

Unless you're trying to make a statement to yourself, like someone making a New Year's resolution, your actions make very little sense.

Well, one bug has remained: I can't install a patch from the in-game utility.

The game won't run on administrator accounts, and the patch can only be installed by administrator accounts.
