1.6 feedback

In parallel, then, can we try to get information on where the huge commerce values come from, for the human player?

I honestly think its mostly that bad AI city placement leads to smaller AI city sizes.

Certainly I observe that human cities are larger.

AI improvement construction seems fine, though obviously it doesn't do use the outpost exploit for more spice.

I guess you have not installed 1.6.4 yet because you are playing the succession game, but I hope at least the initial city placement is good now. I have failed to understand the code which chooses sites for later cities, and my post on the BBAI thread to ask for help is unanswered for a week now. If I can understand the existing code, I will rewrite it.

Yes, I haven't upgraded to 1.6.4.

It sounds like you have significantly improved initial city placement, which is great.

But initial city placement is only part of the story, it is secondary city and beyond placement which has the problem, mostly because of tile sharing IMO. I understand that this is complex and that you're doing what you can, my point is merely that I think this is what is driving weaker AI economy, and so weaker AI economy is largely orthogonal to whether or not tech costs should be increased or not.

I found odd AI behavior in 1.6.4
It built cottages on water resource. Corrino, others didnt. I am not sure why its so but found this odd.
Ix built solar farm on water tile too. other water resource tiles had wells.
On screenshot is captured city of ix.

Also i found odd that Ixian Spider were aviable to me via Offworld Reinforcement. Espessially where it was too early to get such powerfull units. Played as BTl.

Also lasgun trooper have tank animation (tracks and tank sound)

I found the same in 1.6.3. My first reaction was it's  but later I thought it's cheating :mischief:

Do you have the Thinking Machine resource? What is the highest tech you have (ie what era are you in)?

In 1.6.3 (and 1.6.2) I have also gotten Ixian Spiders on the offworld trade screen without the resource. Likewise for the Saurdaukar of both types.

In 1.6.3 I have seen a cottage built on top of a fresh water source, rather than a well, by the Atrides. In this particular case, it was rather squeezed - there were no plots next to the water source that were not mesa, desert wastes, or the city itself. Because of that, it may have actually been a good choice. The city had other water sources - I think it had 2 wind traps and one of the water providing plant-type resources, or possibly another fresh water.

No, i was in war with Ix actually and never had TM resource, but i got 2 Spiders and Cymek from Offworld (and Reverend Mother as well)

Ah, more than that - i didnt got my resources from Contracts for BTL at all!!!! :(
something screwed with OW mechanics, AI also get not Contracts.
SL19

May be lets issue another patch before 1.7 with OW and Inquisitor fixes, Laza tweaking, other issues fixes and added action button set, which is almost complete? Also may be some reskins for new UU i had in mind?

Also i noted that AI not placing Windtraps optimally - at mesa block where 4 can be put it place Windraps in not most efficient pattern so it have only 3 where 4 can be built. And windtrap is very powerfull improvement, so may be there is need to find solution to optimising AI's Windtrap placing .

Grenade Trooper have info of one which cause collaterial damage, but in fact he do not cause any.

Ok then, sounds like still a bug in the homeworld screen. Koma to the rescue, hopefully?

I think he posted once the fix for it, but may be because recent changes it got screwed. If david will not find solution, then yes perhaps....

I think you might be right. He did post a fix, and I'm not sure it got included in all the confusion around patch 1.6.1x/1.6.2. I remember seeing it in one of these threads...

Edit: I found the post that seems to have the latest version of Koma's Python, but it is exactly the same as the 1.6.4 version.

David added some new stuff to Ow mehcanics (popups), and one of problems is popups, which are simply absent now. Perhaps there lay origin of this bug. IF not then koma is only help here.

Sorry, what popups? As far as I know there is no difference between the OWR screen between 1.6.3 and 1.6.4; I do not think anything has been lost. I will put it onto the list to investigate.

In 1.6.4 i dont get popups (offering contract when its built), more than that i get odd units of next era aviable.
Also none of AI got it.
Lets say when just researched Liquid Fuel i was backward in tech i got 2 Ixian Spiders 1 Cymek and 1 Reverend Mother. (Playing as BTl and being in war with IX)

Are you saying that the landing stage is completely broken in 1.6.4 and no popups come to select contracts? That is a major bug. It is working for me; has anybody else downloaded 1.6.4 who can verify this?

But it doesn't have anything to do with the OWR screen. Is there any version in which the OWR screen *did* work for you? Or have you always been able to select units which require a UR you do not have?

It worked in 1.6.3, then, for 1.6.4
Simply i reinstalled my Civ (it was official Civ IV + W and "not official"(dloaded) BTS + 3.19) to new bought 2K Complete Edition.
Path is different - can be there some kind of problem?
Also nagy said that Units screwed for him too.

I did not understand, perhaps there is a word missing in your post. Nobody else has said yes or no about the landing stage contract popup.

Does the landing stage contract work for you in 1.6.3?
Does the landing stage contract work for you in 1.6.4?

I agree that several people have commented about unexpected units in the Offworld Reinforcements page. I do not have any further questions about that. I will investigate it.

I am sorry :)
I just reinstalled mod completely and autorun new game - and popups were there. I odnt know what caused this bug , may be renaming of folder and running mod as different named one.
Then perhaps we should check possibility for players to maintain different versions of DW, because sucession games and because of our modding testing.
Sorry :) seems it works now.

Another though - not related - why Leto II prefers Qizirate - he actualy was "Shai Hulud", its impersonation.....

I don't think this is that important.

Quizarate is basically the bureaucratic, theocractic religion used by Leto II; its Fish Speakers are his soldiers, and its Golden Path is his master plan.

Shai-Hulad religion represents the old pre-Mahdi beliefs and social structure of the native population of Dune.
This doesn't really have anything to do with Leto II. Yeah, he turns into a worm eventually, but the old ways are abandoned - all you have left are "museum Fremen", who are a hollow mockery of their ancestors.
