Okay, the old 1700AD Scenario thread is already quite old, therefore I made an "official" thread so we don't have to post in the last pages of the other one.

I'll start with the list of civs that will exist at game start / be playable in the scenario:

China
Korea
Japan
Vikings
Spain
France
England
Austria
Russia
Poland
Portugal
Mughals
Turkey
Thailand
Congo
Netherlands
Germany
America
Argentina
Brazil

Is Austria really necessary? The extent of it's control at these periods is what...two cities? Seems a bit too weak to really warrant a full civ slot.

Respawns not listed. Italy is dead in 1700 AD, so it can only return as a respawn.

Austria is Holy Rome, which is still alive in 1700 AD.

Uhm I think that's debateable...surely it was not influent anymore, but there were quite a few independent italian states in the north. (Venice had Morea! XD)
Probably not worth by themselves, but considering the later resurgence I think it could be interesting to play...

To be fair, it's not like there actually was a united Italy in RFC Italian spawn date, and its Renaissance-focused UB and UHV suggests that Italy as a civ is fine for representing the Italian city-states.

It makes more sense for the Italian city-states to be independent. Maybe the Venetian empire can be the same group of independents (there are two, right?)

I don't think Venice will even be on the map in the 1700 AD scenario.

Works for me.
Also, I know you said respawns aren't listed, but is there a working list of them ("working" used like in the term "working title").

Sadly I must agree. It needs to make way for Austria, who needs more than 1 city (Vienna) to be actually interesting.

Also, I can't wait till Congresses in this scenario lead to Partitions of Poland. I can already imagine the screenshots for that. Congress mechanics need a slight tweak to allow the Polish capital to be demanded by other civs.

Nothing changes for respawns between scenarios.

What are your plans for UHVs? Do you plan to have new UHVs for every civ, or will this be a mostly UHV-less scenario (since nearly everyone's UHVs are at least partially expired in 1700)?

I agree that Iran should be in at the beginning, and Mexico should be a playable spawn in 1810. Italy could maybe be a playable spawn in 1860, but they definitely shouldn't be in from the start. Italy was solidly dominated by the Habsburgs during the 18th century.

Austria was hugely important in history from 1700-1918. It definitely has to be included. They would also get three cities at spawn, I think. At least Vienna and Budapest, but including Venice as well would not be totally wrong.

I think Italy should be in as playable, but it doesn't spawn until late in the game. Or, it could start as Piedmont-Sardinia.

Careful here, we don't want Leoreth to become too snippy :nono:

In fact, I think that Italy should be split into 2 civs, Venice, which spawns in 700ish (I can't remember its history even though my family is from near Venice), and Piedmont, which spawns in 1167 and needs to unite Italy. I'll go start a thread for that.

As I've mentioned in another thread, I won't make scenario specific UHVs.

So either certain civs will start with some goals already completed, or unable to win the UHV. Maybe even different for every civ, depending on how challenging the remaining goals are from the 1700 AD start.
