2. open game:easy immortal space-race (easy = great starting position)

Please, tell what difficulty level would you like? What conditions?

I found a bit easy Immortal difficulty, but I'd like to know your opinions too.

Interesting thing is the question ... What to do with this unit. I had plenty ideas about it. Also arises a question what promotions give to this unit. My heli jumped to 65exp. It's 8 level I think. And now I know how I would improve this promoting.

@ Giaur:

two versions of the game I don´t think are a good idea...

My proposal:

With the gunship and a worker as starting bonus for human player I would go for deity (immortal... ...way to easy, because all AI´s will be slowed down extremely by the barbs and we still have a gunship)

Agressive AI´s with your map and settings, but without barbs and no starting bonuses for human player I would go for immortal (=still a little harder then last time, because of the agressive AI´s)

Well I think keeping the settings as standard as possible is best, i.e. no gunship, raging barbs and no bonus for human player. Aggressive ai might make me more war oriented so no objection there. But who am I? I will support the chiefs of this movement.

Galileo44: this was exactly what I had in mind, when was talking about taking into consider another promoting system of mine.

Blitz is perhaps the best promo on this map.

A short report this time:
Spoiler :
Endgame was straightforward. Assembly Line and build factories + coal plants in most cities. Steel-Artillery-Rocketry and get Apollo underway. Around 1800, Ghengis declared on what's left of Peter, and I jumped in to secure a source of Coal. Radio, then back up for Railroad because it looks like I won't have any trading partners. Brennus put up his Apollo program in 1820. Computers for labs, then Industrialism for Aluminum (should this have been earlier, to aid the Apollo program?). I pick up Biology because it's only 2 turn, then Satellites + Robotics for the Elevator (a saved GE rushes it), then it's on to Fusion.

Tenochtitlan goes into revolt for the fourth time, despite being 45% Indian and having a large garison. Do I deserve this?

Lastly, Genetics and Ecology. Launch in 1920 AD, about 3 parts ahead of Brennus. Hit "one more turn" to get the save, and Tenochtitlan goes into revolt for the fifth time. Is there some game mechanic I don't know about? This doesn't seem right.

Here's the GNP graph, as expected:

I tried out Giaur's test start. Superb fun. It'll probably have to be deity, though, or that chopper will be too much of an advantage for high-level players like you lot (though I'll surely lose again).

Oh, and happy birthday to Giaur! [party]

Happy Birthday Giaur. In the previous game i also launched ship in 1936. Rather late but Ghengis declared on me in the same turn he finished Monty (he always was to afraid to attack Brennus and the rest was dead or vassalized). Very agressive this Ghengis. Not such a problem, finally i got fed up with him and took 2 cities with modern war tactics that i learned from previous isolated start (lots of gunships pillaging railroads to keep main stack safe) then he finally wanted to talk. After that i made a mistake queing to space parts in one citie costing me a further 6 years. No problem Brennus wasn't even close. Despite being financial Brennus is one of the worst researchers in the game and it showed again.

Looking at the saves from others 1700 AD i realized that i had probably farmed too much. For instance i was at 70/30 science-gold where most clocked up 80-20. Even at 80-20 i didn't reach 1200 research.
I believe in FE economies especially with philosophical leaders but this map was so food rich that i probably should have cottaged some more, i just hadn't the happiness to deal with the enormous food surplus in some cities. So it went to rot. Something to remember, i'm learning a lot from this challenges.

My second immortal win, first was a launch in 1818 on a huge map 18 civs.
standard map , only 7 civs means a much later launch this already showed on the isolated start, huge map emperor ai launches between 1840 and 1860, standard nowhere near as we've seen. This game was easy and very well played by Giaur (great angkor wat synergy) , Mutineer impressive overall, Lilnev coming back from a bad position , Snaaty audacious strategy having archers in modern times and getting away with it, and the others who won in
similar fashion like me outwarring and ultimately out researching the ai's.

So I finally close this game.

...

I will make a final (short) summary, including only who launched when later today or tomorrow

...

Concerning the next game:

We have two options for our next game, based upon Giaur´s ideas:

First option: Deity with bonuses

deity level
Raging Barbs
Starting bonus:additional worker, additional unit (gunship), additional tech (Agriculture)

Victoria fin/imp
Snaky Continents
Rocky Climate (hills)
Agressive AI

...

Second option: immortal without bonuses

immortal level
No Barbs
Starting bonus:non

Victoria fin/imp
Snaky Continents
Rocky Climate (hills)
Agressive AI

...

Please vote for the game you prefere for the next open game. I will start a thread tomorrow with the final settings (depending which option will win), so that Giaur can post his start and we can start the next open game.

...

Personally, I also would like to try out the "deity with extra worker and gunship" idea, so the actual standing is:

Deity with bonuses:
3 votes

immortal without bonuses
1 vote

Wow, I just had a very short try with this settings (15 minutes)... ...I think this game will be extremely funny (and extremely different) from any games I played so far and therefore I´m really looking forward to it:D (hope that this option will make it through the selection):

deity level
Raging Barbs
Starting bonus:additional worker, additional unit (gunship), additional tech (Agriculture)

Victoria fin/imp
Snaky Continents
Rocky Climate (hills)
Agressive AI

Dirk1302: Angkor Wat is very powerful for Spiritual trait, cause it allows you run empowered GE. While it spoils a bit chances of getting GE, for many cities it gives huge boost. I mean newly conquered cities. I rarely run scientists, when I can run production specialists. Production is the basis. High production means that the city can construct two (instead of one) buildings giving boost to science. Angkor Wat becomes a little obsolete when assembly line is known. But the fact that factories are constructed so fast, it's the work of Angkor Wat too.

Another interesting building is Sistine Chapel. I am specialized in C/D and believe me it helps very much. However on this map, there was no marble and C/D was on the second plan, cause we all know that SpaceRace is priority.

Also never built The Kremlin. But in the previous map (Isolated Island), I missed this Wonder very much. The game was practically won, but The Kremlin could speed up the victory a little.

edit: I am for the version with gunship. It's just more fun. Paradoxally the hardest job is staying on top in tech. And I do not know if I will manage with that. But I am ready to try ;)

Without coal (=without railroads) and beaten by Monty fort the Three Gorges Wonder it took a little longer to finish this game then expected (I finished 1928 AD).

But on the good side (and since I had some time), I managed to build most of the modern wonders (except Three Gorges Wonder)…

In the end, I launched a Golden Age, but it was more for show…

I had an impressive jump in production in the end (see mark), because I started to build all space-ship parts at the same time (with labs, space elevator and aluminium) and launched the Golden Age.

My small area of the world:

It hasn’t changed much…

Those are some massive cities you got Snaaty :)

I'll vote for the gunship start. There's something funny about watching the AI die to barbarians - although they'll be pretty nasty for us too...

Nah, barbs are just free experience. I tried a few starts:
Snaky continents can be weird sometimes, ranging from total isolation to virtual pangaea (though oddly shaped, and it may take a while for all the neighbors to drift in). Fogbusting is pretty easy, or just let the gunship take care of them. It feels almost like peaceful expansion, actually, except that if you have a neighbor you can let him build up some cities for you. I think the first strike promotions will actually be the most useful. I also noticed that the gunship can't capture a worker.

So it is decided... ...we will play this game:

deity level
Raging Barbs
Starting bonus:additional worker, additional unit (gunship), additional tech (Agriculture)

Victoria fin/imp
Snaky Continents
Rocky Climate (hills)
Agressive AI

...

@ lilnev:

I had the same experience with my quick testgame (also some strange maps, so I rerolled quite a lot:lol:)

...

@ Giaur:

I will start a new threat:

3. open game: giaurs game (deity domination with starting bonuses)

Please post your starting save there ASAP
