With the 7th pick of the fourth round, the Oakland Raiders select:

Rob Sims - OT - Ohio State University

 .... dammit! :gripe: back to the ol' draft board ...

With their fourth round pick, the 49ers select Dwayne Slay-Safety out of Texas Tech university.

With the 5th pick of day 2, the Tennessee Titans select:

Nate Salley - Free Safety - THE Ohio State University

With the 6th pick in the 4th round, the New York Jets select:

Stanley McClover - Defensive End - Auburn University

With the 8th pick in the 4th round, the Buffalo Bills select:

Joe Klopfenstein - Tight End - University of Colorado

Reason: Browns cast-off Mark Campbell is the the incumbent here.

With the 9th pick in the 4th round, the New England Patriots select:

Danieal Manning - Cornerback - Abilene Christian University

With the 10th pick of the 4th round, the Arizona Cardinals select

Anthony Smith - Safety - Syracuse University

Wow, that makes 4 safeties and 5 total defensive backs after only 10 picks here in the 4th round!

Now for the NFC North day 1 draft grades:

Green Bay Packers: A-
--Got arguably the best defensive player in the draft, also addressed the RB spot and a good value pick in Ashton Youboty.

Chicago Bears: B+
--Got the top flight Tight End they were after, also picked up a future guard in Jonathan Scott in a good value second round pick. Roger McIntosh was a nice pick-up in the third, though some might consider him a reach there.

Detroit Lions: B-
--I was half tempted to give the lions an A just for not taking a WR in the first round! However, they went need and reached a bit for Winston in the 1st when A.J. Hawk was still on the board. Other than that it was a solid draft.

Minnesota Vikings: C+
--DeAngelo Williams and Taitusi Latui were both great picks in their respective rounds, however D.J. Shockley was a reach. Yes he did show a lot of talent in the half-season he played for the bulldogs, but that's just it, he only played a half-season! Injury and experience concerns make this a questionable call in the 3rd round.

Up next: I'll leave that up too all of you...Which division shall see their grades next?

AFC SOUTH!!!! Texans had first pick...I want to see what you thought of my number 1 selection.

With the 12th pick in the CFC draft, the St. Louis Rams select:

Kevin Simon - Linebacker - University of Tennessee

This kid has all the talent to be great at the next level, but he just has never been able to stay healthy.

The San Diego Chargers take CB 6-0 205 lb. Danieal Manning of Abilene Christian.
A tremendous playmaking athlete with 4.45 speed. A versatile player who can play safety, CB, KR and kick blocker. He's still very raw and will need work on technique. Though he was a prolific player at the Division II level he was truly a big fish in a small pond. Oringinally signed by Nebraska out of high school.

Sorry for the overlapping pick. It's kind of hard to tell who has what at this point. The San Diego Chargers take CB 6-0 205 lb. Danieal Manning of Abilene Christian.

Instead the San Diego Chargers take

CB from Miami (Oh.) 6-1 206 lb. Darrell Hunter.
Love his speed, agility, hops and can play man to man. He needs a lot of improvement on his tackling and learning to be more physical with receivers.

NFC West Grades!!!!

Arizona Cardinals: B
Outside linebacker wasn't a significant need for this team, but you don't pass up on a talent like A.J. Hawk when he falls to you at the 9th pick. In the second, they addressed thier weakest position on offense by selecting Davin Joseph at guard. Their 3rd pick, Oshinowo should help to improve a team that was 28th against the run last year:eek:

St. Louis Rams: C
They have holes galore on defense and went with a tight end in the first instead. It might have been wiser to choose a Chad Greenway or Jimmy Williams at this selection. The rest of their draft went well though.

San Francisco 49ers: B-
Their biggest need was basically impossible to fill in this draft: a playmaking wide reciever. However, that doesn't excuse them wasting a 3rd round pick on a WR when they clearly have numerous other needs.

Seattle Seahawks: C+
Solid draft all-around. Picked up a safety and corner to help shore up an already decent secondary. Brian Calhoun provides them with a little extra insurance in-case Alexander decides to bolt in free agency, however that wasn't a huge need.

Up next: the AFC South

AFC South Grades:

Houston Texans: A
Passing on Reggie Bush was the best move they could make; they already have a quality back in Davis and had a much more urgent need at Left Tackle. D'Brickashaw Ferguson fills that in a big way! He was by far the best tackle available in this draft and probably will be considered a top 5 tackle for next decade. Manny Lawson was a great pick at the top of the second, however, apparently Kubiak wants to switch over too the 4-3 which Lawson does not fit into very well.

Indianapolis Colts: B-
They got the man they've wanted for a while in Maroney. D'Qwell Jackson in the second was a great pick as well.

Jacksonville Jaguars: C+
Zemaitis in the first was a great pick however, why go back to the same position in the second round when you already have an elite corner in Mathis? A tight end might have been been a better selection in the second.

Tennessee Titans: C
A big 12 quarterback in the first round...that has trouble written all over it!

Up Next: umm, not sure yet.

Rolling on...The Grades for the NFC East

Dallas Cowboys: B+
I really liked this draft by the Cowboys, Carpenter fits really well into the 3-4 and fills a need for them. Jason Allen and Derek Morris were both good picks as well as filling needs. Though Morris might take a couple years before he's ready to be a quality starter at the NFL level, that's true with most offensive lineman.

New York Giants: B
Another draft I really liked, they addressed their biggest need with Tye Hill at corner and Spencer Havner will help shore up their Linebacking core. Jesse Mahelona was a steal that late in the 3rd.

Philadelphia Eagles: B-
Strong overall draft by the eagles. Ryans is a talented linebacker but he's a bit on the short side and needs to bulk up a bit for the next level. They might have been better suited picking Chad Greenway with this pick. Also, Callaghan may be better suited as a guard at the next level not a tackle where it looks like the Eagles are hoping to place him.

Washington Redskins: D+
This may seem a bit harsh, but consider the fact that they treaded their 1st this year for QB Jason Campbell who probably won't even start on this team until at least 2007! With that in mind, Leonard Pope was a steal and filled their biggest need, their fans have to be jumping for joy after getting him that late in the second round. This team could be hurting in the coming years due to a lack of high draft choices (only 2 last year and 2 this year).
