2006 CFC 7-Round NFL Mock Draft (Starts 2/4)

Now the AFC West:

Oakland Raiders: A
Getting Lienart with the sixth overall pick is an absolute steal! He'll probably end up being the best QB of this class. Ernie Sims is a great talent and should help out a weak LB-core. Claude Wroten in the 3rd is another steal, he could have easily been chosen in the first round. Getting him in the 3rd has got to make the Raiders happy.

San Diego Chargers: C
28th ranked pass defense last year and not a defensive back to be found on their day one choices! They did however pick up the best WR in the draft and Derting has size and more importantly knee issues which make him a questionable call for a third-round pick.

Kansas City Chiefs: C-
Tamba Hali and Jeremy Trueblood were both strong selections, however Devin Hester is really just a kick returner and he may not really be able to play corner or wide reciever at the next level. He should have been a 4th rounder and not a 2nd like the Chiefs made him.

Denver Broncos: D
Oh, how good drafts go bad! Marcus Vick in the 3rd, what were they thinking!!! Ngata and Whitner were both terrific choices earlier, but they basically threw away thier third rounder! One would have thought they would have learned their lesson last year after picking Clarrett.

NFC South Grades:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: B
McNiell was a terrific pick in the first and will fill a huge hole at the tackle spot. Richard Marshall is a solid CB selection and provides a solid back-up behind Ronde Barber and Brian Kelly. Mark Stetterstrom is another quality pick and might be able to come in right away and start at the RG spot.

Carolina Panthers: C-
The Panthers are taking two huge risks in this draft, one on a MAC wide-out that was injured during the entire 2004 campaign and the other on a FSU linebacker with some off the field issues. This is a boom or bust class for them.

Atlanta Falcons: D
What happened here? Did Matt Millen hijack the Falcons FO?? A WR in the first for the 3rd year in a row?? And they reached on the WR they took anyways, they could have used that pick on a much better player. They are lucky I only giving out 1 F.

New Orleans Saints: F
Speaking of only giving out 1 F, here it is. What in the heck were they thinking?!?! Jay Cutler with the second overall pick when Matt Lienart, Reggie Bush, and Mario Williams were all on the board. It's a real bad time to be a Saints fan.

By the way, here's how Red Fusion's Grading System works:

Start with a B-. For every Ohio State player taken, add a grade. For every Michigan player, subtract a grade. For every other Big T(elev)en school, subtract a half grade ;)

And lastly, the AFC North

Cleveland Browns: B+
Chad Greenway looks like a solid selection at 19, but there are question as to whether he can be an OLB in the 3-4 system. They might have to transition him to a ILB. Bunkley and Watson help shore up a woeful front 3 and give them a true NT in Watson. Selecting Daryn Colledge in the 3rd can only help an O-Line that is a couple injuries away from being one of the worst in the NFL.

Cincinnati Bengals: C+
Orien Harris was a slight reach in the first, they might have been better off selecting Broderick Bunkley in that spot. Byrd and Blue both fill needs for the Bengals and should be able to contribute right away next year.

Pittsburgh Steelers: D+
They really didn't get much help out of this draft. Kiwanuka will almost certainly have to be moved to OLB until he puts on about 20-30 lbs. Griffin was an ok selection at the end of the second, though there were better corners available. Bloom is a reach for a day one selection.

Baltimore Ravens: C
LenDale White is a solid selection in the first. He looks like he will end up being the best back out of this class. Spitz in the second was a bit of a reach, but the Ravens will have the time to develop him so it shouldn't be a huge issue.

Heh.

Was it me or were there a lot of OSU picks in this draft?

There were, but there were also a lot of USC players. I believe they both had 6 taken in the first 3 rounds, which will probably be similar to what takes place in the actual draft in april.

With the 14th pick of round 4 the Baltimore Ravens select Anthony Schegel linebacker, Ohio State.

Per Malba's PM,

With the 15th pick in the 4th round, the Atlanta Falcons select:

DonTrell Moore - Running Back - University of New Mexico

The San Diego Chargers draft 6-2 201 lb CB/Safety from Penn State Alan Zemaitis.

May not have great speed at 4.5 but he's got football intangibles. A character guy with good field intelligence, a nose for the ball and a sure tackler.

...make that Anwar Phillips - Cornerback - Penn State
(note to all: Zemaitis was taken off the board in the 1st round by the jaguars)

Good thanks RedFusion.

With the 17th pick in the 4th round, the Miami Dolphins select:

Terna Nande - Outside Linebacker - Miami University

With the 18th pick of the 4th round, the Minnesota Vikings select Elvis Dumervil from Louisville, DE

AFC South Grades:

Houston Texans: A
Passing on Reggie Bush was the best move they could make; they already have a quality back in Davis and had a much more urgent need at Left Tackle. D'Brickashaw Ferguson fills that in a big way! He was by far the best tackle available in this draft and probably will be considered a top 5 tackle for next decade. Manny Lawson was a great pick at the top of the second, however, apparently Kubiak wants to switch over too the 4-3 which Lawson does not fit into very well.

Tennessee Titans: C
A big 12 quarterback in the first round...that has trouble written all over it!

TEXANS OWNZ NFL DRAFTERZ 06 BABY!!!

But there you go, blasting Vince Young ;) Well, you'll all see. Vince Young is the next Steve McNair, at least I hope so....Chris Simms does seem to be the only recent Big 12 QB enjoying some level of success.

But hey, theres always that Colorado QB, Kordell Stewart!

Ref: Unsportsmanlike conduct, on the Texans, 15 point penalty. They now recieve a B-.

But seriously, I was just thinking the other day about how terrible big 12 qb's are. I really can only think of Stewart and Simms being the only qb's to have success at the nfl level in the past like 20-30 years. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to another that I'm missing.

Well, Steve McNair is the only QB out of Alcorn State to have success in the NFL in the last 30 years....same with Jerry Rice in Jackson State. The conference you play in and the talent level of OTHER Big 12 QB's should not be held against Vince Young.

EDIT: I still cant think of anymore good qb's from the Big 12 though.

Phila Eagles

w/ their 2nd 4th rd pick, the Eagles select WR Micheal Robinson (fka a QB) out of Penn State.

*the Eagles brass is confident that Robinson can make the switch from QB to WR. they envision him as a 'Slash' type player capable of lining up in the back field, in the slot, back deep for kicks, or, hell, even behind center if Donovan gets hurt again. he has execellent instinctsfurthermore, the interview session w/ Robinson at the CFC-NFL Combine was one of the best ever for the seasoned Eagles staffers. he will compete for the 3rd WR spot w/ Greg Lewis once camp opens. on another front...rumors have it that the Eagles staffers are eying soon-to-be FA WR Eric Moulds. due to the NFL tampering rules, no commment was issued when the matter was broached. stay tuned...

With the 20th pick in the 4th round, the New York Jets select:

Adam Stenavich - Offensive Tackle - That School Up North

With the 21st pick of the 4th round, the New England Patriots select:

Mike Degory - Center - University of Florida
