2011 MLB Thread

your squad can test their mettle this week in our fair city :) look for me a few rows off the RF wall on thursday night :D

Oo! How fun! Unfortunately I'm 0-2 on baseball games I've been to this year. Hopefully my luck will change when I go to the Grateful Dead night in August! :D

i've been through those doldrums myself with a poor 'at-the-game' record. not so lately though. apparently i'm getting kyle kendrick this time (thur's starter). i look forward to watching on tv that dimple faced kid with the kewl goggles pitch tonight.

re beltran - overrated. the mets think they'll get an A+ prospect or some kind of package. insane. read where they asked for phils RF dom brown and one of the so-called 'Baby Aces' from their single A team  not worth even one of them imo. for what? 2 months? let texas or someone else overpay for that waste of flesh :D he is a fraction of the player that he was in '04/'05.

I agree. The Phils don't really need anything right now and can't afford to overpay beltran because Howard's contract is about to expode. Besides if you look at Dom Browns year right now he's playing better the Mike Schmidt did in his rookie season so I'd rather keep him around for awhile*.

*I'm not entirely sure if this is true but according to the Phillies fan site I use it is.

I wouldn't call him a waste of flesh, he's still a pretty good baseball player, but he absolutely isn't worth an A+ prospect.

I think the Mets are just starting from a high point, hoping to negotiate to somewhere that's still favorable to them. Same thing the Astros are doing with Pence.

surely pence is worth a lot more based on his contract/remaining arbitration yrs etc. his age is a plus too. beltran is a liability in the field. pence is solid.

the dimple faced kid with the sweet goggles threw a gem tonight. he is 7-1 now. can this put him into the ROY hunt?

Might trade Lee to you for him at this point :D . I will at least trade stats for this week :mischief: .

Bautista stepped up to the plate in the third inning when Orioles pitcher Jake Arrieta threw a fastball up and away at the third baseman's head. Bautista immediately fell to the turf as his helmet went tumbling away, and he stayed motionless while Toronto manager John Farrell and a pair of trainers ran out to examine him.

I don't know who the Orioles best hitter is, but if I was him I'd put on a goalie-mask for this evening's game.

White Sox deal Edwin Jackson to the Cards in a three way deal. Toronto gets Rasmus. White Sox get prospects and salary relief.

Did anyone see the Pirates Braves call in the 19th? Wow. The only explanation I can fathom is the catcher missed the tag, but still... wow.

The Orioles may not know who their best hitter is :mischief: .

Bean JJ Hardy  . I believe the ump thought the catcher missed the tag on the Atlanta/Pitt call... he just blew the call.

TSN is reporting the following:

The Blue Jays have dealt reliever Jason Frasor and pitching prospect Zach Stewart to the White Sox in exchange for starting pitcher Edwin Jackson and third-baseman Mark Teahen. The Jays are reportedly working on a deal to move Jackson and other pieces to the Cardinals for centrefielder Colby Rasmus.

Not really sure what Jays are hoping for here. They deal their best reliever in a year where their bullpen is their weakest link and desperately needs improving, they're already overloaded with talent in the outfield, so they trade away their best relief pitcher for a starting pitcher in hopes of flipping him for another outfielder? oook.

seems like that jackson kid is dealt every year at the deadline

several reports saying beltran to SF for a package of prospects and maybe LHP sanchez.

Hmm. Interesting that they'd give Sanchez the boot. He's definitely the weak link of the rotation (Zito excluded), but I mean he's not a lost cause. Maybe they figure Vogelsong is a decent enough replacement. We're supposed to have a pretty good pitching prospect coming up from the minors too so :dunno:.

Beltran will definitely be a good git though. We can definitely spare the power, and ATT is basically built for him, so...yeah. Personally I would have preferred Upton to Beltran, but it is what it is.

I'm a bit surprised that the Cards have dealt Rasmus for basically a rental starting pitcher (Jackson is a free agent at the end of the season) and spare parts. Rasmus must have really worn out his welcome in St. Louis...
