2013 NCAA Football Thread

This game shouldn't be close let alone OSU ahead. Heh.

Go Clemson!

I'm pretty sure Clemson and Ohio State are both trying to lose.

Disappointing end to the game, but not totally unexpected, given OSU's dire injury situation. In retrospect, Miller probably shouldn't have been playing the last two series, but hindsight is 20-20. Better to lose a heartbreaker like this than get totally slaughtered by Florida State.

I am almost certain that Braxton Miller is going pro now. Probable that Ohio State starts next season outside of the top 10. Maybe 13? There are lots of questions about next year's team.

So now it's "dire injuries". Clemson was also missing important starters, including a cornerback, the receiver who leads the nation in yards per reception, and their second leading rusher who had been out all year due to academic ineligibility.

And what makes you think that OSU / FSU wouldn't have been a good game?

I loved the reaction from some of the fans. You would have thought someone they knew quite well had just died.

And what was the deal with the two Clemson sideline penalties? Anybody know what provoked them?

i'm glad college football is getting a bit more parity.
The biggest problem is that there are too many FBS schools.

Only 40 current FBS programs have ever claimed national championships at the highest level, and about that same number of programs has a realistic chance of winning one ever again.

But with Georgia State ascending after two straight FCS losing seasons and Appalachian State, Charlotte, Georgia Southern and Old Dominion joining over the next two years, plus possibly James Madison and others, we'll be over 130 FBS teams in no time.

There are too many FBS teams. This is not to say there are too many college football teams. Within the NCAA alone, there are four levels of college football. (This is also not to say that I actually care about whether there are too many FBS teams. But maybe you care! Do your things, bruh.)

Still, there's plenty of room for teams to get in where they actually fit in, rather than merrily toiling in conference cellars for an eensy bit more money and some Wednesday night attention.
It could easily be trimmed down to a third of what it currently is, and it would result in far more exciting games.

yea with braxton and guiton gone who is your presumptive starter?

Luckily, Braxton shocked everybody and announced he is returning next year. I'd guess that J.T Barrett will eventually beat Cardale "We ain't come to play school" Jones to replace him.

Between the B1G title game and this game, OSU lost their 1st round draft pick CB (and their best tackler in open space), their 2nd best linebacker, and their best pass rusher. During the game, the second best pass rusher and their QB also got injured. When you combine that with the fact that this wasn't a great matchup anyway (Clemson has one of the best passing attacks in the country, OSU's secondary is shaky when healthy, and it wasn't), I'm not surprised by the outcome. I'm disappointed, but I'm not surprised.

Ohio State's secondary and linebacker corps isn't nearly good enough to hang with Florida State for even 3 quarters, let alone the whole game. I think the team could have seen some success in their power run game, but I don't really see any reason to think that OSU would have stayed within 2 TDs. Maaaybe if everybody was healthy. Probably not though.

Not me... I expect Alabama to throttle them. :scan:

I'm going Fla St over Auburn too. :D

Haha... I fell to sleep when it was 17-14 Alabama. I thought it was business as usual.

Next morning I was shocked. I saw OK play earlier this year :scan: and didn't think they had what it takes.

I'm rooting for Auburn to get blown out because I'm tired of the SEC winning the national championship, and because I'd like to see Michigan State finish the year at #2.

Surprised Auburn didn't go for it on 4th and 2 there. A 21-3 lead woulda probably been time to change the channel.

Starting to think one of three things: God is real and he's an SEC fan, the SEC somehow cheats, the SEC champion should just be handed a title.

Winston fumbles. Probably time to change the channel. Welcome to the club, Noles / ACC.

Oklahoma played a lot better than I'd seen them play earlier in the year and the future looks bright with Knight at QB, but it was Alabama's five turnovers that decided the game . . .

I really didn't think Auburn had any chance at all tonight, but damn. Is the ACC this bad . . ?

Also, the playoff committee speaks . . .

Don't lose heart. Auburn's defense really is very bad, I promise. Let's see what FSU can do early in the third . . .

That taunt was awful. If this game comes down to a failed 2pt conversion for Auburn I'm gonna :x

Guess it won't.

I wouldn't want to be up 4 here. 3 or 8 but not 4.

that kid is faaaaaaaaaaast. guess that cushion now is worth it....

If Auburn wins this I need a surrogate SEC team to start following. I'm thinking Vandy.

Oh I woulda loved to see him go down at the one there. Burn more time. Kick a FG if you fail first three times. I don't like giving Winston a chance to win the game with 79 seconds and 2 timeouts.
