I don't understand people love to Abd-Rahman. He was ruling a backward countries and one of his main plans, reinsitauring Barbary Piracy, was a total failure. Morocco should have a leader from the era in which the country was strong (military, culturally, economically, scientifically), so during the middle ages/early modern era. I suggest:
-Ahmad Al-mansour (orders the invasion of Songhai)
-Yusuf Ibn Taschfin (founder of the Almoravid dynasty, he created an empire which ruled From Senegal to the middle of Spain and up to the middle of Algeria, he was the most powerful leader in Western Europe and possibly Africa)
-Abd al-Mu'min, my personal favorite, he founded the Almohad Dynasty (according to wikipedia: 'Abd al-Mu'min's rule was the first to unite the whole coast from Egypt to the Atlantic Ocean along with Spain under one creed and one government. Between 1130 and his death in 1163, Abd al-Mu'min not only defeated the Almoravids, but extended his power over all northern Africa as far as Egypt, becoming Caliph of the Almohad Empire in 1149.' Also the Most powerful leader in Africa and Western Europe)
-Ismail Ibn Sharif, known as the Louis 14th of Morocco
-Yaqub al-Mansur, (who maintained the hegemony of the Almohad dynasty with significant victories)

Lorenzo de Medici doesn't have a beard, though.

99.99% sure its Morocco ;-).

Aussie.

Could be a woman with a fake beard

But, anyway, that's Morocco, with 100% certainty.

"Are there any *women* here today?"

(High pitched voices) "No, No" (Suddenly Low pitched voices) "No, No, No"!

I was just thinking. Hopefully with the announcement of the two new civs on Friday, there will be a bunch of new screenshots coming in from various magazines that we can analyse. We may be able to eliminate a couple more possible civs depending on which city states show up in them.

After reading more about Morocco these three sultans stand out to me. Any of these three leaders would be great.

Also, Abderrahmane was being mentioned because of his reliance on international trade which is a new addition introduced with BNW.

Comparison of all three to the image:

Civ V Hidden Leader:

Al-Mansur:

Tashfin:

Descrption of Tashfin is similar to the hidden leader and also may be the reason he's outside with huts rather than a palace like Rashid.
"Yusef was very much adapted to the rugged terrain of the Sahara and had no interests in the pomp of the Andalusian courts.[6] According to Abd Allah's "Roudh el-Kartas" (History of the Rulers of Morocco) and A.Beaumier's French translation of the 14th century work, Yusef was of "Brown color, middle height, thin, little beard, soft voice, black eyes, straight nose, lock of Muhammad falling on the top of his ear, eyebrow joined, wooly hair"

Lorenzo de Medici doesn't have a beard, though.
Victor confirmed?

That has to be Morocco!

Ok, several things on that:

Morocco's greatest era was during the Moorish conquest of Iberia. Muslim Iberia was a power to be reckoned with, and it sure was Morocco's/The Moors' golden age. In a way, it was also the first golden era of the Iberian Peninsula, even if not in Portuguese/Spanish Christian hands.

But that background doesn't seem straight out of Iberian Al-Andalus. That's Berber North Africa. Hence we're probably talking about a later leader...

Which brings us to Al-Mansur. A military genius, perhaps Morocco's finest, that managed to send the then major world superpower (which was already) crumbling into an abyss, from which Portugal would only get out of 60 years later.

It was the first time, after the beginning of European hegemony, that a major European kingdom was put aside by a "pagan" one. Sure, you had the Ottoman Empire, but the OE was always in a different category.

Al-Mansur also expanded Morocco southwards, conquering the Songhai. It effectively backed of the Portuguese from Morocco for good and, for that reason, the Spanish influence in the kingdom ended up decreasing as well.

So, yeah, Al-Mansur. As a Portuguese, it would be very cool to have him in as well. And it would be great for some Casablanca achievements.

"We'll always have Paris" - enter in an alliance with France.

"A Safe Passage to Lisbon" - capture Lisbon without losing any units.

:D

This is also why I'm suspecting Tashfin or one of the earlier leaders like him. The later leaders would probably be found in a palace, while leaders like Tashfin, still connected to their nomadic Berber roots, would be more happy to run around in the wilderness with a tent.

Al-Mansur is certainly an interesting leader as well.

Especially in the "Battle of the Three Kings"

His drawing also does look like the hidden leader. At this point, however, it is hard to differentiate any of them. It's not like Napoleon where you'd know it was him from the hat alone.

Yeah, the Islamic leader fashion of "beard + generic robe that covers most of the body" was a pretty poor choice in retrospect.

That's my thought as well.

Marrakesh Express can be 'Connect Marrakesh to any other city with railways'

Possibly too similar to the English Scramble for Africa achievement? They seem to be trying to go for some novel and characterful achievements in BNW, and ones that take some work to set up. This might be a little basic.

If he was standing in a palace and dressed in finery, I could see Al-Mansur. But the guy lives in a tent in the desert. That's the calling card of Yusuf ibn Tashfin.

The Muslims of Al-Andalus had trouble with the Spanish. They begged Yusuf for help. He went over there and saw how they lived soft lives in luxury. Instead of fighting for them, he annexed their petty kingdoms. He sneers at palaces and loves the desert and hard living.

This is why I'm suspecting Yusuf ibn Tashfin as the most likely. Still, there are plenty of other options.
