3rd and 4th Unique Components for VP - Official thread 88.10

I've come back after a year off. Updated to VP 3.10 and updated this mod to v87. I tried one game with the celts as I had never seen oppidums. I got the research and couldn't build oppidum. I couldn't figure out why, but after a bit gave up that game. But was I missing something? You should just be able to build them on strategic resources correct? Is there a prerequisite tech? The help file doesn't say there is.
Are you trying to build them with a worker? because they can only be built by expending a GG/GM/GS/GE. Also you can build them anywhere and they grant additional yields to adjacent improvements.

In my most recent game I had a Shoshone neighbor and I've got to say the Yellow Brow, especially its promotion, is incredibly strong and situationally broken. In one of our many wars, I had unlocked Rocket Artillery and his Yellow Brows were still only upgraded to Riflemen. He had a few citadels on our main border, in which he had fortified his Riflemen. I kid you not, with the +20% combat bonus from the UA and the extra defense from the promotion and the citadel my Rocket Artillery was dealing like 3-4 damage and my Tanks would have received like twice as much damage as they dealt, even though they had like 50% more CS. When earlier I had just had normal Artillery against his Riflemen, it was more like 1-2 damage.

Granted, Pocatello had Defender of the Faith as his reformation belief and otherwise this was just about the best-case scenario for the Yellow Brow promotion to show its strength, but that single promotion essentially completely prevented me from Renaissance onward from attacking his continental cities, even when I was 1 or even 2 tech levels ahead.

I'm not exactly sure how CS is calculated with all of these percentage modifiers, i.e. whether all modifiers just effect base CS or if some/all scale multiplicatively, but what I can say is that the Yellow Brow promotion gets absolutely crazy in the late game and ideally should be nerfed in some way.
 
The YB only gets an extra 25% when fortified and fights well when damaged. These are quite modest bonuses. Stalwart, for instance is much stronger.

If pocatello managed to grab defensive bonuses to make his units unkillable then good for him, but the YB itself is only a modest contribution.

That's good to know, I was really confused in game because his units were getting like +125-175% CS labelled as "miscellaneous" and I thought most of that was from their promotion.

Out of curiosity, how is CS calculated with respect to fortified/fortification bonuses? Do all the modifiers just scale off of base CS or do some scale off of modified CS? i.e. with the Shoshone UA would yellow brow defensive bonus in owned land be like 27*1.2*1.25*1.25 or 27*1.7 or something else?

Been playing vox populi for two years now and I definitely can never go back to vanilla, am currently in the middle of a 20-player huge map hotseat which has been lovely but I have noticed that it seems only about half the fourth components are working. Every civ has 3 (these work fine), and some have 4, but many do not and I have had to use the editor to compensate for the fact that certain civs can no longer build the buildings their missing uniques were supposed to replace e.g. Greece cannot build markets, Assyria cannot build walls, Polynesia cannot build councils.

I am also running the extra resources mod, the custom advanced setup screen mod, and ethnic units but I have tried disabling these to no avail. Any idea what might be causing this problem? It has been the same for v86 and v87.

Happy first post.

When you say that some civs do not have 4th uniques, do you mean that if you are on the start screen picking civs, some just dont show up?! Or is it something more subtle you noticed in-game?
Either way, bug sounds weird as heck. I was on V85 apparently, so will test now for you.

They don't show up in the start screen, they don't show up in the game and are unbuildable or creatable in IGE
 
I just tried newest version and can't see any errors.
The only obvious answer I can think of is that the install went wonky.
Do you have logging enabled? You can look at the database.log
If it extracted badly, maybe certain files are missing. e.g. if you go to the folder for the Greek UB (which is missing, you said) at Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\(over) More Unique Components for VP (v 87)\Greece\Agora you should see 6 files (.lua, .sql, 4x .dds), do you?
 
Yep I see all 6 files. I just deleted the existing folders of the download and tried again and it still didn't fix the problem. I also tried running only the VP mods and v87 but that didn't work either. No matter what I do, it's the same issue. I don't think I have logging enabled, where would I find the database.log?

Whilst I no longer use UC4VP, alot of issues can arise (The same with any mod that adds/alters) from a corrupted or already present cache.
Best practice is to always delete the cache folder as the game loves to pull from it instead of overwriting it upon starting new games.

The cache folder can be located:

C:\Users\<UserProfileName>\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Cache

Note, you will have to start a new game after to ensure the optimal environment for bu reproduction/conflict free gameplay.
 
Yes I tried deleting the cache folder, it didn't seem to fix anything and I had to restore it before I could play my currently active hotseat. My question then is whether I installed the game wrong - without any clear instructions otherwise I assumed the method of installing was simply extracting the .zip file to the MODS folder in a folder titled (over) More Unique Components v87 or something of that nature...based on many components being present in the game this was at least partially correct, but is there anything I have to do other than that? Any script files I have to edit or anything?

Your log is totally broken. I dunno where to start :D Have you tried reinstalling the game? Do you have all the DLC, perhaps it is asking for something you haven't downloaded.
 
I do have all the DLC, and I tried reinstalling, the messages were exactly the same
Is there a script file with a BUILDINGS section where I can potentially input the important information?

Your log says that, for example, (over) More Unique Components for VP (v 87)\Greece\Agora\Agora.sql is not being read in. But if you unzipped the download into \MODS then you must have this file (check). This means you must have a deeper problem, but I can't imagine what it is right now.
