4,99$ For Babylon

I don't know why you just replied with that.

I acknowledge that official DLC will have all of those things you listed, the price is just beyond my personal threshold for a single Civilization (assuming that will be the price).

(I'm not anti-DLC)

I'm just curious how much would you pay for a civilization as DLC?

hmmmm, must be a family board, so there's no icon for me giving a 1 finger salute to Sid.

I gotta save my money for when Sid finally fixes Civ 5, but puts the fixes into an expansion pack and charges us again for what we should have gotten in this first box. You know that's coming. This dog will be patched to the barely passable level, then to get the real working version of civ5, you're going to have to pay... again.

Wrong time to be asking people for yet more money. Everyone sitting here with a game that don't work, and Sid's just trying to reach into our pockets again. Wasn't stealing $50 from everyone for a game that shouldn't even have been in beta test enough?

I can't possibly imagine my being so desperate to play as Babylon that I'd pay an extra $5 to do so.

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure it's a ruse. How to convince angry customers that they are AWESOME:
1. DLC civs will cost 2.50
2. Give them first DLC for "FREE!!!" (nothing is free ;)), and charge for the other 5.00.
3. People rabble on ridiculous price of DLC civs
4. Come back to #1, and start selling all future DLC civ's at 2.50
5. People are happy that "now the price's not that bad" and start buying.
6. Profit!

Simple, and I'm sure marketing folks are full of themselves now how smart they are - they haven't done anything really, and yet people are grateful for "free" DLC and "low price" of oncoming DLC's. Well done indeed

I guess that's why nowadays games are made mainly for kids - it's hell of a lot harder to fool adults... ;)

By the way, 5USD for one lousy Civ IS a lot, so when they'll release 20 DLC civs EACH for a fiver you'll still be saying it's not a lot?
To buy a deck in Magic:the Gathering on Steam you pay 0.99 Euro - that price is acceptable, though I still wouldn't buy it.

Spot on.

Hm-m. Civilization V disappeared from Steam store for me - I now get a "This item is currently unavaliable in your region" message, although I can play the game still.

I wonder if I will be able to access downloadable content of any kind because of this.

That was my bad. I was replying to someone else, mixed both of your messages up, and my brain didn't register the mistake until now. I apologize.

Zimbu is right. There hasn't been any announcement on Steam about a Babylon Civ up for sale for 5.00 US. Mods should throw this thread to the trash. It is misleading.

Edit nevermind: already found out it is priced at 5.00 dollars:sad:

Where'd you see it?

I still can't find the store update or announcement.

$0

-- there are plenty of civs in the game. Typically I just start as a random to get different experiences. Don't feel any need to add another civ to the deck.
-- Most of this is just stupid artwork I don't care about. I really don't care if I see an animation of a new leader. And if I want a new unit, I'll mod it myself. And I don't care what the artwork even looks like.
-- When I've bought an expansion pack in the past, it wasn't for new civs. It was for new gameplay.

I haven't tried it yet in Civ5, but pretty sure I can mod in a new civ myself, expecially since I don't give a frack about artwork. So, the value I place on downloading a new civ is .......... $0.

Too many of you expect hours of work on a leaderhead to be free.

If you want to say the game is unfinished. Good for all of you saying it. Just don't buy the DLC.

See the real issue is that in previous Civ games you got X amount of civilizations included with your game. DLC to be fair didn't really exist on the PC at that point in time. Then you could expect to buy 2 expansions which included way more then 1 civilization for what $30?

So BTS gave you 10 new civilizations and 16 leaders for $30. That's $1.89 per leader....

Now 2K wants to sell you 2 Civ DLC for $5 which they already created, but lobbed off the game for future resale and you can't see why people would complain about it?

BTW, wasn't Babylonian suppose to be a never to be released Civ as DLC? Skew the truth much 2k? :P

So why are you complaining that it cost 4.99$ then if your intention never was to buy it anyway?

Think about what this says about Sid's priorities.

He has an awful game out that's badly in need of patching. To me, this game is just barely ready for beta testing as there are so many problems. If a dev sent me this game to beta test, I'd probably just send it back saying it crashes too often to even beta test.

So, instead of Sid putting all hands on deck to try to get his lousy game playable, instead he has people off making new civs so he can sell those for even more money.

Even if these people are just useless graphic artists who can't fix all the broken and unfinished code, they could still be drafted in as testers in a part of the effort to get the game fixed. But no, Sid's more worried about reaching into your pocket and grabbing another $5 than he is in fixing his dang game. Any software company I've ever worked for would be in 'all-hands-on-deck-mode' fixing this game. But not Sid. Sid just wants more of your money.

hmmmm, must be a family board, so there's no icon for me giving a 1 finger salute to Sid.

This should've invalidated the rest of your post since you're clearly under the age of 13 but I'll go ahead and continue.

I gotta save my money for when Sid finally fixes Civ 5, but puts the fixes into an expansion pack and charges us again for what we should have gotten in this first box.

You don't have to. If they decide to make an expansion that was just a patch, then no one's forcing you to pay to play it. Now that we have that established, let's continue.

You know that's coming.

I believe you're about to enlighten me.

This dog will be patched to the barely passable level, then to get the real working version of civ5, you're going to have to pay... again.

This...."dog". Archaic.

Again, no one's forcing you to pay for anything.

Wrong time to be asking people for yet more money.

How so?
Everyone sitting here with a game that don't work, and Sid's just trying to reach into our pockets again

My game works. I play a mod and it works fine. There is no technical problem with my game except the....not really annoying red dots that randomly hover above the terrain. Oh, did you mean not work as in....what do you mean by chance? I mean, does your game not start? If not, you should return the game or get technical support. Maybe upgrade your rig.
Wasn't stealing $50 from everyone for a game that shouldn't even have been in beta test enough?

I can't possibly imagine my being so desperate to play as Babylon that I'd pay an extra $5 to do so.

Then don't pay for it. Man, I should just macro that phrase. That way all I have to do is push F12 and all of a sudden, your argument is ripped to shreds. No one is forcing you to pay for it. No really, no one's forcing you not to download the free Babylon civilization.

So why are you complaining that it cost 4.99$ then if your intention never was to buy it anyway?

Because I don't like jerk game companies that put out bad, busted, unfinished games to take people's money and I like to give them a hard time.

If you don't work for Sid, then why are you so worried about whether people are complaining about it?

The problem is that I didn't use half of the civilizations that came with it.
So BTS gave you 10 new civilizations and 16 leaders for $30. That's $1.89 per leader....

Did you use every single one of them though? The problem is that back then, anyone could just reskin a leaderhead or make a new one. It wasn't exactly difficult. Now the leaderheads are fully-animated bodies which, even if they're just reskinned, will be difficult to recreate. But the $1.89 figure is actually cheaper because you was paying for other content as well so in the end, BTS was a bloody good deal though but one can't expect 16 of the new leaders to show up in the expansion to Civ5.

Now 2K wants to sell you 2 Civ DLC for $5 which they already created, but lobbed off the game for future resale and you can't see why people would complain about it?

No because the DLC is optional. I don't have to get it. The expansions are different. I needed those for content that reasonably wasn't in vanilla Civ. And you're paying $5 for just one of the DLC and the other one is free.

BTW, wasn't Babylonian suppose to be a never to be released Civ as DLC? Skew the truth much 2k? :P

Honestly, $5 is a lot BUT it was the expected price and anyone hoping for $2-$3 DLC was just fooling themselves. If you look at any other game, DLC that consists of major content like a whole new faction almost always sells for a minimum of $5 whereas the $1, $2, $3 dollar marks are reserved for less substantial things like costumes, maps, etc. DLC is largely priced based on competition and what other companies are doing in the market.

For 1 civilization?Really?How greedy are they?Unfinished game+overpriced DLC...
I've got an idea! They should release patches for money.9,99% for 10 fixes in a patch:nuke:

lol stop whining those that bought the digital deluxe version to get Babylon payed the same amount.

So now you want it way cheaper then those who shelved 5 bucks extra for that?
Selfish much?

Because I don't like jerk game companies that put out bad, busted, unfinished games to take people's money and I like to give them a hard time.

Yet you bought their game and still frequent their forum to...what? You wasn't going to buy the completely optional DLC with no bearing on gameplay anyway.

If you don't work for Sid, then why are you so worried about whether people are complaining about it?

Because Civ5-General Discussion is turning into the Modern Warfare-Clan Discussion forum.

Unless you're Value. In which case you're rolling in money anyway.

DLC that charges for major content often costs far more than $5. Mongols isn't major. Therefore they're $5.

Seriously, right?

If they had released Babylon for free. A lot of people would've been pissed off. The people who bought the Deluxe Edition or preordered are loyalists and its in no one's best interest to piss those people off financially.

Technically speaking you don't really 'have' to get Civ x either :P Let's face it though if you buy Civ you did so to play hours on end of just one more turn goodness. You would have to use all of your will and might not to buy an expansion or DLC for a Civ game. It's addictive and they know it ;)

Nope, I never played all the civs in any civ game, but I faced them all and it was not only fun, but a learning experience as well.

Anyway, my point was that I can see why some people would be up in arms for 'having' to buy additional DLC so soon after the game launches. It makes you feel like you got jipped out of something.
