The NDA is still in effect after release? I have never run into that in the games I beta tested, is this something new?

We still contribute to it, and test the early versions of patches/dlc/eventual expansions.
This is why I said with extreme confidence that DLC will never be made up of material required to play the game (as in, no bug fixes, no new mechanics, just new content); I know what is being developed as DLC. Hell, I know most of what will be in the first expansion.
The job the testers had did not end with release.
Sure, if you count anything before a final expansion a public beta.
Civ5 is not anywhere near a 'beta'. You want a game that released a beta under the name of a finished game, go look at Elemental.
Civ5 has it's issues, and I will not deny that. However, in my opinion at least, it is already a better game than Civ4. It simply lacks the polish that Civ4 possessed... And that polish WILL come, Civ4 did not have it until BtS was released.

No, you quit whining. Five bucks IS a lot for one CIV in an unfinished game.
And pointing to another over-priced thing hardly makes an argument.

That blindly assumes that the devs don't care at all about giving the players a value for their dollar.
As has been said (and as I have said to the devs, on multiple occasions), the only advantage a DLC civ has over a mod is art. Nothing more.
Don't expect simply a civilization. There is more to the DLC than that.
Note: I was, and am, in the Civ5 beta; I cannot say much on this subject. Just know that I know what the hell I am talking about here.
And as I said... I may get the Mongol DLC for free (well, all DLC for free. You know what I mean), but were that not the case... I'd gladly shell out $10 for it. Babylon? No. I don't care about the civilization. The Mongol DLC however is the most fun I've had with any civ game since I first discovered Fall from Heaven 2.
This mindset is exactly why we are seeing this trend with micro payments...Guys.... Really? $5? Honestly... It's really not that much... I'm sure you all have a spare $5. My 9 year old cousin probably has more than that in his room...
Think about it for a sec. $5. It's a little funny... Really take a moment you consider this...
$5![]()
This mindset is exactly why we are seeing this trend with micro payments.
Many consumers just look at the price and pass it off as a small investment.
But 5$ here and 5$ there adds up, eventhough many people never think about it and just pays the small amount of money.
On top of that, this kind of extra content was free to get some years ago. Nowadays you get to pay for it, and apparantly are happy about it also. It must be a dream come true for these companies.
If there have ever been a time where i can understand why people sometimes lower themselves to download pirated versions of games this is it. Here im not talking about just CiV but also big games like World of Warcraft that are using micropayments extensively and is getting huge profits thanks to stupid teens with their parents credit cards.(which is even destroying the balance in the game)
