40k NES Preview/Sign-up/OOC Thread

@Nik- I think I'd go for 40k first, though if I went fantasy- Skaven all the way!

I guess it's the kind of player I am in competitive games. Zerg, Tyranids, Skaven, Egyptians from AoM...

Alright, approx. 18 hours from that post would give me ~40 mins. I'll have orders in before that, probably sooner.

Thanks for the orders guys. We got 8 sets this turn, as opposed to 7 last turn.

Kal'Thzar and germanicus12 have been removed from the game after defaulting for 2 updates.

germanicus12 will be replaced by a new player, while Kal'Thzar's exodites will remain open to any prospective player.

This update is going to be chock full of goodness and battle moderations, so expect a little longer than the usual one day wait this time.

Also, expect several flash points this update.

I've finished espionage, a section on the surrounding sub-sectors, and half of the extensive battle moderations. Expect Sunday night (Brisbane time) at the earliest.

I play Tau myself in 40k. I've always had more a fantasy leaning though, where I've played Empire and Lizardmen. I play Mordheim as well where I play... umm... everything. I'm also a Warhammer Fantasy Role-play junkie and I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the pen and paper Warhammer 40,000 role-playing game in February.

Dude, if they ever came out with a 40K MMOFPS, my red pill life would end right there.

That would own. Except everyone would die every 30 seconds.

I could just see it now. Most people would make interesting characters, and then there would be the munchkins who would make a Space Marine character. The first few minutes of the game would go something like this.

Game Master: "You step into a dark room and..."

Munchkin: "I shoot it!"

Game Master: "But I didn't say..."

Munchkin: "Look I said I shoot it! I have better iniative then anything else in the game!"

There aren't any provisions to play space marines in the 40k rpg yet. You play an inquisitor's acolytes basically. There aren't rules for playing actual inquisitors though. There is a rogue trader expansion coming out soon after the release though.

The rules should be easily adaptable enough to make playing anything in the 40k galaxy possible though.

Well it has had an established RolePlaying Game for some time... Though the original Hero Quest died... Im fairly sure they've revived it and just turned it into a DnD Mod

Don't underestimate the viability of science fictions RPGs Iggy. Plus, there is nothing to say that the two can't be combined. I've been considering having the players play in a Warhammer-esque fantasy setting for a few months, then have the Imperial recruiting vessels arrive on their 'feudal world' and conscript them.

Though generally I'll be sticking to the fantasy version myself too, mainly.

I'm not saying that 40k RPG doesn't work, I'm just saying that I think the smaller world of Fantasy is more suited for roleplaying.

Ok, the update is up. I’m heading to Melbourne tomorrow morning, so stats, map, and our first flashpoint will follow when I return. The flashpoint, so you can prepare yourselves, will concern the Chaos/Imperial war.

I’m thinking of a rules change and I’d like your input. Currently, players can afford, at best, one capital ship each. The vulnerability of shipyards and the high price of ship means that is you lose your capital ships, you basically lose any ability to project yourself. I’d like to change the costs of building naval vessels and shipyards to half of their current prices, but I’ll only do this if the player base supports it.

I'm alright with this change, though I'm concerned that it essentially means that a Battleship costs half as much as a Titan Demi Legion. Just to put it into perspective.

What I suggest is the following. In the world of 40k (BFG specifically), the concept of salvage is featured heavily. A ship gets blown up, they find the still usable chunks and build a new ship around it. So to represent that you get a bonus Ship fund equal to half of the ships that got blown up in the systems that you own, representing you finding these ships and either rebuilding them or taking whatever chunks are still of any use. Additionally, I think that restoring destroyed facilities on a planet or in a system should also cost -half- to bring back online, as unless they bring a planet destroyer (or something similarly big) they aren't going to do more then render the machines unusable and kill all the crew.

My Arrogant Smile(tm) is, as of this present update, very wide indeed.

In other words, I like it. ;)
