5 of 9 Jiffy Lubes....

Interesting video. Caveat Emptor, however. You gotta make sure they don't stiff you.

Of course, they shouldn't be doing this in the first place. But that doesn't mean you don't protect yourself from it.

It seems like every time I have gone to get my brakes checked, the mechanic asks me if I use my parking brake to slow down, and why I don't...

:lol: Sorry but this reminds me of my time in the US when I, and the Scouse Lad I went with, couldn't stop laughing at the "Jiffy Lubes".

IIRC there was also "Dr. Lube", "Pro-Lube" and another equally good one which had us giggling like school girls :lol:

On Topic: It's accepted that mechanics, if that's truly what "Jiffy Lube" are, will rip you off. I say this because I have zero knowledge of motor mechanics and I get paranoid when I'm in unknown territory.

What the hell is Jiffy Lube? Is it what I think it is?
They will change the oil in your car in about 20 minutes.

I use my local Chrysler dealership. They're priced just as good and for some reason I just trust the Chrysler brand name more than those quick lube places.

I have not looked that the link, so I am guessing the subject here. I use similar places in the UK (very cheap to get an oil change and brakes etc).

What I do;

Mark the oil filter / spark plags whatever before you take it in.
Examine the "changed" components before you leave the premisis. Check the oil level. Look at the brake pads.
Give the car a good run on the way home to check anything else they have done.

If anything is wrong, politely point it out, and if they agree to change them do not make a fuss. I expect to get better service next time I go (there is not much choice around here, and they are loads cheaper than "proper" garages.

I got a deal with my car that I get my oil changed for free for life as long as I keep my Monte Carlo. I believe its at every Chevrolet dealership too. ;)
