8 City Challenge

Yes settling the dye city is next, getting some archer fogbusters out is next. We need to pick up BW for chops on the Oracle. There's a lot of land to grab, trying to block Wang to keep him to the east is tricky. Wasn't planning on being isolated, but we'll play the map. I think taking out Wang with axes/swords will happen.

Do we keep him as a trading partner, and how long? Thy you can go ahead an write up a PPP to keep this going.

OK, PPP:

First things first - the spot for our second city: As we're not settling the western spot next to wang we may should discuss to move the money city 1E. That way we'd get two more river cottages and would exchange one grasshill to another grassland..
Buildwise I'd go for an obelisk down there and afterwards a worker seems to be the best choice! In our cap I'd grow one more while starting on a Archer. After hitting size 6 I'd start a worker..
Techwise there seem to be two ways: directly change to BW for later chopping oracle and as a prereq for the necessary IW or direct way towards priest to start on oracle.. So oracle could get started directly after the second worker. Meanwhile we'd tech writing so we should time oracle resp. CoL directly afterwards..
I'm still in favour of that route as we're not in any ugent danger of getting DoWed. And with the missionary to Wang we could gain a long time friend!!!!

BTW: How many turns are we allowed to play?

This early I'd say 20 turns for a set.

Plan looks good and solid. Nothing wrong as far as I can see, apart from the obvious "No Battle plan survives contact with the enemy", von Motlke the elder.

IT:
Nothing to do. I only moved the spot for our money city 1E..

2525BC:
Settler finished and I started an archer in our capital while setting our capital to max growth.

2450BC:
Money-City founded and started the obelisk. Unfortunately the pic got lost.. I'm sorry.. :(
But we definitely need to get to IW fast:

2425BC:
Our scout survived a lion-attack and we finished Poly. As discussed I went on with priest. Furthermore our cap grew and I started on the second worker.

2300BC:
Priest in and on we go with writing. And as we already thought it was a way too late for mono:

2275:
Our second worker finished in our cap and I changed prod to oracle. But as we're going to grow unhappy I also maxed prod to get oracle in 12 turns.

2100BC:
Writing in and BW got next.

Finished here. Things for next player: We're going to loose some hammers on the archer in our cap. I'm not sure wether it's worth loosing a turn in oracle to finish the archer without decay or not, so next one (resp. team) should decide on this. And I left the southern worker unmoved, so next player can decide whether to build a road from cap to Money-City or to start on a farm on the grass 1SW from his current position!

Got it for tomorrow. Some items to discuss until then:

I'll get the archer and move him south in case barbs appear. Once we have Oracle/CoL I think it is time for at least one work and settler. With writing in, I think the next city should be the GP farm, but I'm not sure where to put it. I'm thinking 2SE,2S of the money town which will block Wang and get FP and a pig, and lots of green land that can be irrigated later. But other city types/locations are possible. Perhaps it is time for dot-mapping?

Looking at the save, our Naval Port can be settled on the marble. That'll give us fish and 4 grass, 4 grass hills so it'll be a monster :hammers: city.

I agree on let's see where copper shows up. We need Pottery/IW/Calendar for the money city. The red dot would work for our GP farm, blocks Wang and with farming all those river grass will produce a lot :food:.

After Oracle go settler for the Wang blocker, then settle the Naval Port. Rename the cities for their function.

Two things: Taking our rules the Marble spot should become our mil prod center, shouldn't it? And in case we can take it as our navy city I'd suggest to put it 1N to get some more water titles for Moi
And in case we're going to settle red dot this MUST become our science city, 'cause otherwise it would farm spots our money city could use for cottages.. In case we're going to take red dot for science city, we could share those cottages and grow them a way faster..

IIRC the red dot city is already partly blocked by Wang's second city, making the location less than ideal unless we start war and raze that city. It all depends on if we find metals.

Not sure what you guys mean by red dot (don't have bug mod installed;)), but I'm assuming 1 NE of the pigs. I like the proposal of settling that next, to block Wang. But I would make it our science city. We can hire scientist in here, as stated by the rules. Lot's of river tiles for cottages, and I don't see a better alternative for science.

About the marble spot, it's indeed a great naval port site. 1N gets two more water tiles, but misses two hills, so IMO on top of the marble is the best option.

But if the rules state that it must be our military city, I'm fine with that as well.

I'd have to agree with Thy on the proposed naval city. Due to the rules and the large desert area south of us, early on this is going to be by far our best production site for a good long while.

The only compeditor I can see (from a screenshot eyeball) is by the desert hill gold SE of the dyes, which won't be full potential until CS and even then leaves us with 5 deserts and 1 mountain in the BFC.

Here we go...

Preturn (77): swapped archer and oracle
78: archer moves south
81: Our scout kills a barbarian warrior and gets promoted.
82: As planned, we get CoL for Oracle, and Confucianism is founded in Money-City :goodjob:
Spoiler :

8city02.jpg

In the next turn Confucianism spreads to the capital and I revolt to the new faith. The capital MM to grow to size 7. I open borders and send the missionary to Wang. Remember that we can close the borders again in the next set.
85: BW is in and we have copper in our cultural borders :king: The navy/military city now looks very strong. New research to pottery to be able to get some cottages around the capital and a granary in Money-City.

Spoiler :

The missionary arrives in Seoul and spreads the faith. Good city and only one archer.

90: Pottery -> Iron Working. Not sure about this one, but Money-City is drowning in jungle.
94: Capital finishes settler and starts a worker. The settler is heading towards the blocking site discussed earlier. Our workers are building a cottage, and the chopped forest will go into the new worker next turn. I also whipped the granary in Money-City.

I think the next goal is to chop/build a settler for the navy/military city and a few workers more, and then start building some military.
