8 City Challenge

She's a witch! Burn her! Burn the witch! BURN HER!

I actually just finished a game of Civ V myself. Diplo victory as Darius on Prince. Got ranked as Abraham Lincoln. I like Diplo victories in Civ V. Quicker and not as constraining as Culture victories. I prefer Civ V for when I play by myself. I can't solo Civ IV effectively very well. That's why I prefer it for SGs :)

Anyways, as for the game:

cripp - UP
Brian - ON DECK
Matrix
Meiz
Spellcraft
yena - JUST PLAYED

So we're settling the military (or production) city on the marble like so, yes?
Spoiler :

EDIT: Or maybe 1N of the marble >:? It would lose two hills but gain Copper... Hm.

If the marble spot is for the military city, I think this spot is good for the production city or naval city:
Spoiler :

Up here may also be good for the naval city...
Spoiler :

But from what little can be seen, it doesn't look like we can get both of the fish in one city. I think that area is however a scouting priority, so we should get a galley or workboat up there ASAP.

Oh and looking down to our south... All the way down here...
Spoiler :

This looks to me like a good spot for the Espionage city, but it is a little far away.

And if we decide to take Seoul, it would definitely be our GPfarm. Wet corn, grassland pigs, fish, mmm...

Here is a save with my dotmap suggestions if you wanna look at it for yourselves (if you have BUG mod at least) or add to it.

By the way: what is the point of the red dot? I know you guys were talking about using it to block Wang, but it's utterly useless! Our borders towards him are pretty close to his anyways. A blocking city would be better placed NE or E of the jungle grassland pigs our Archer is standing on. That is at least a semi-decent site, though which of our 8 cities it would become is beyond me. Also when Money-City gets a border pop in 17t, I think it might seal that area. Not sure though.

Seoul is the GP farm, no question about it. We just have to get it first. I'd put the military city 1N of the marble to get the copper.

As for the next settler, I'm thinking the blue ring in my last screenshot. But this was for a GP city, and if we go with Seoul instead perhaps it should be a science city instead.

Great set :worship:

Very much agreed on these three!

Researching IW is a good call. My civ access will be limited for the weekend, but I'll be browsing the forums, and I trust you guys do the right things ;)

So the red dot thing was all about the old spot next to Wang? Forget about it already! :D

Ah, Science city. Yeah, that would work. Either farm it up for sci specs or cottage it up for direct beakers like that.

And looking at previous posts, the 1N of the marble spot is actually best starting off as our general production city, as cripp has allowed that a city's specialisation can change. I would settle that before the science city so we can get our production on for troops we can use to grab Seoul.

We can box Wang easily by settling science city next, due to the mountains. I don't wan't to lose that site to him...

Putting the marble (prod or navy whatever..) 1 N of marble should be the way.. We'd loose two grass hills but would gain copper on grass and the marble! in the end a far better choice (I'm to lazy to calculate how much better..)
But once again: Why the f... do we want to go for Wang? He'll become friendly some when (maybe we need to gift him one or two techs before) and after that he'll become a welcome tech-partner to make our way to ind! Please keep in mind we've got 8 (!!!!!!!) cities to KILL the world! We need a decent tech advance to everybody else otherwise they will outproduce us. And as long as we can get good 8 cities a living Wang is a way more worth than a dead one! Even though Seoul would be a great spot for our GP farm!
And yes that spot NE of the pigs would make a good spot! Only I'm not sure whether to make it science or GP farm.. In the end science would make more sense as we could once again share cottages with our money city!

You have a point, which we should seriously concider. I see good spots for all of our 8 cities (have to draw a dotmap after IW), but it really depends how much Wang expands. If he leaves all the spots for us, I don't see a need for killing him. Then again, if he steals one of our sites, we want to make his capital one of ours :)

The more reason for blocking him ASAP with the science city then. Seoul is by far the best GP site on this island, but we could certainly find eight good-enough spots without attacking Wang. I'm fine with either way...

@MatrixTheKitty's: I wanted to check your dot map save, but the URL is wrong. Could you add some screendumps in your next post so we can discuss the locations?

I knew I should have invited Sir Bedevere to this one.

But being serious for a moment, I'd much rather keep Wang for now (but we'd have to get him to friendly or go EE), but if needs must. I'm also refraining from a dot-map as we don't have all info yet (i.e. the iron).
And yeah the dot map pic would be nice. It seems you've put in just the image link as a normal one, but take away the tags and it doesn't work.

I'm not going to be able to play until Sunday, I'll be able to look at the save when I get up. Wang does tends to tech pretty good, if we take his capital what are the odds of getting him to friendly after he settles out the lower half of the continent?

Settling 1N would be a lot better to pick up the copper, going IW was a good idea.

I'm not sure but in case we're going to take his cap we surly won't leave Pjöngjang to him, will we? And that would mean we need to raze it and THIS will give real bad diplo!

Guys, it's either kill Wang, or don't take his capital /cities :D

As previously said, we have nice 8 spots anyway so as long as Wang keeps to his corner, we can leave him peace (at least in my opinion, that is :))

ok, looking at the dot-map

Lt Blue Naval/Prod: Settle 1N of marble to pick-up copper, 2 water

Red Commerce: :agree: about the red spot, putting it NE of pig would be either :gp: farmed or cottaged for :science:
Purple EE: It is a bit far away for our 8 cities.

Another :hammers: production site would be 1W1NW of the far west dye. That would be a great site, 8 mines, 11 farms.

Yellow Alt Naval: Not too bad, yet still far away.

If we're going to only build 8 cities, then Wang will fill out the rest of the map eventually, which he would become a tech whore that we can trade from (Friendly) or steal from (likely choice)

I'm up, so I'll have a look and come back.

Had a look at the save, Thebes is the GP farm, correct? And Navy goes to sky blue?

On tech I suppose currency next after Alpha, we won't get it done in the 10 without getting more commerce on-line so it may end up redundant.

What'll I do with Isaac, bulb maths or academize (Newton was a very bad lecturer by all accounts)?

We need more workers, so I'd say get some out of the cap, and maybe whip one in Money too while we're at it. And if I can I'd like another settler just to get another good spot up and running as well.

I plan on playing to T130, and I can definitely wait for suggestions.

Not only that... the capital was going to make a GP for the shrine! (using the Oracle, which is allowed). Heaven knows when we get another GP now, if ever... :(

How about replacing the GS with a GP using the world builder and pretend that this never happened? Not much that of a cheat, IMO.

I'd agree to a replay of cripp's set or even rolling a new game with the same rules.. But changing the GP to a prophet would nonetheless mean we got a great person earlier than we would have been allowed to..
