A Brave New World Part 2

Can you email all the stuff to yourself and then re-download it when you get a new computer or get this one fixed?

He has no internet.

i know but if he lost the up date when his computer crashed it mite be the fastest way instead of trying to restore it. and if he has no internet how is he posting.

Hey Andy, I am sure your intentions are honorable but let's try not giving our moderator the third degree. This is a free service he is providing us.

That having been said, I think the time and effort which has been put into this NES is so great that EQ will try everything in his power before affording it the sweet embrace of death. We have, after all, stuck with this world from 1830 and we've come a long way - something as plebeian as a burned-out laptop won't be the straw that broke the camel's back.

I am very sorry about your computer melting down. Hopefully you will be able to get most of it back. One of my tech savy friends claims that if your hard drive is having a mechanical issue, to stick in the freezer. The cold causes the metal to contract and makes it become unstuck. I know it sounds goofy, but he claims it has worked twice for him. Obviously, it only works for a little while. But its should give you time to copy info off of the damaged drive.

Also, I will be out of town from now until Sunday night.

Yeah but his notes will be lost, and that's a big part of the underlying mechanics of the game.

AS they have said above, orders and stats are but a small part of the updating process. If that was the only elements I need as we did in the old days, this would be a easy matter of repair and the update would be posted by now. Anyways, sending in orders is not nessecary as I saved all orders to Word after recieving them, as I knew already that I was going to have issues (though not how severe).

The elements you see on these pages, as crezth suggested, are but the tip of the iceberg. While updating I (for a normal update, not a world war) have six word documents, one excel document, two MS paint .gifs, Calculator, two to three windows or tabs of internet explorer, and a RNG program. As for an update on the update, we'll know by Monday whether this is going to have to go on haitus for a while.

To be honest, this incident has led me to thinking on the future of ABNW and other possiblities for NESes. At the moment, I believe we are nearing what may be the climax of this NES, and I believe we'll only keep this NES going for maybe another 5-6 months (real time). Because of this, I have started working on finalizing my next "big" NES: TWTUD in Space. This will be a fresh start (to a degree) NES with some preexisting nations, based on the conclusion of that NES. We will be ignoring the disastrous TWTUD 2 for this upcoming effort, and the emphasis will be on non-traditional states, such as colonies, corporations, pirates, or rebel groups. The current ruleset will focus entirely on allowing the players to focus on whatever (or all) efforts they'd choose among those. The ruleset at the moment is a adaption of ABNW 2 stats and rules, avoiding the walls of text of the abortive TWTUD 2. Planetary maps will be provided as well as a overall Galactic Map, but with the current ruleset they will NOT actually be needed for the NES. The nations at the start will be available to their original players, with one or two open to anyone quick or willing to take them. These nations are: Union of Federated States, India, Germania, United Republic of Afrika, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Dar-al-Islam, and the East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere.

I knew this whole thing would be a setup for the next NES. I just was hoping ABNW would keep going well into the second half the 20th century. Probably won't play in the space TWTUD as it's not something I care to much for.

Germania made it in! WOOHOO!

EQ, what about Dar-al-Islam?

I must say I would be very sad to see this NES go. I even though I quit playing a while ago I have lurked about since then. Whatever the case may be and whatever may happen I commend you EQ for creating a NES of epic proportions who's length, depth, and post count will go down in the history books of NESing. I hope to see your next NES, although I may or may not join I certainly will remain a permanent lurker.

Well in order to move things along so the top of the next page is available for the posting of the update (which I may have found a solution to), I'll answer some questions. People's Republic of China has been merged into the greater USSR. I forgot about the Muslims when I was writing that post above, but yes, they're in there too. Here's some details about the world which the highly advanced TWTUD became. This will be provided in greater detail when the Appendix Thread is finished (which will include the planetary maps as well as nation backgrounds).

In 1968, the development of reliable hydrogen power rocked the world. The only fuel required for unlimited energy was merely the most common resource on planet Earth, water. To make things even better, the only waste product was purified oxygen. This had two major effects, first self-sustaining spacecraft became viable and increasingly cheaper. The UFS and Islamic space programs quickly capitalized upon the advancement and by 1970 over fifty self-sustaining colonial foundations existed on Mars, and several, less important, installations upon the Earth's moon. Twenty years later, scientists on Mars were surprised to note that the air outside was breathable and the ice caps were quickly melting and ancient rivers and lakes were once more flowing with water. This was attributed not only to the human power plants which multiplied into the thousands, producing new oxygen, but to the dramatic warming of Mars' atmosphere for unknown reasons. By the year 2000, Mars evolved to a surprisingly lush, though still cold, planet, a refuge for many from Earth. In year 2010, Mars has developed a culture of its own, the varied inhabitants speaking a odd mixture of slang English and Arabic, and some residents have begun speaking out against the attempts by the UFS and Dar-al-Islam to enforce their will upon the formerly Red Planet.

Other problems have emerged over the years. The second of these is the proliferation of nuclear technology. Throughout the 1970s, ambitious children made headlines, creating light nuclear weapons out of nothing more than household items. The companies and organizations of 2010, however, have more money and resources, and it is a growing concern that with the lack of law throughotu space, that these organizations may well build and deploy their own tactical or strategic nuclear weapons. With space making old defenses obsolete, many have mentioned that the new developments in nukes could very well led to a new and devastating war, with no part of humanity left untouched.

As previously mentioned, the universe beyond Earth's atmosphere is governed by no national or international law, the United Nations having collapsed in the late 1950s. Corporations and other groups have been able to use this to justify their expansions and unethical activites. The only rule on the final frontier is the law of who has the biggest and best guns, money, and tactics.

I'm in the process of getting the update moved now. While reviewing it however, I discovered that I was in fact missing a very important element of the update. I require confirmation from qoou on a very important deal. Qoou if you agree to the big deal made with a particular alliance, I recommend you post or IM me ASAP.

Yeah, it will be a shame to see this NES go. I am very impressed by it. In fact, I'm thinking of writing a novel in the setting of this NES for National Novel Writing Month in November, if no one objects (and due credit will be given where it is deserved).

And I hope I can be a part of the new NES. I know I really can't claim one, but I hope I get UFS or USSR or Germania. Best of luck with that. And best of luck with your laptop.

Unless someone posted while I was writing this, this is the last post. LEAVE THE FRESH PAGE FOR EQ, PLEASE!

I will be equally as sad if this was to go. This is, believe it or not, my first NES, well, the ABNW series is, joining it over 15 months ago in the seventh update. Grown quite fond of it, and well, I will stick with my Canada till the end, no matter how hard those Quebecois try. I really should get an award for that when all is said done, you all don't know how many ways I've thought of to try and eliminate them, please do try to cause a rebellion you know who.:p

Hope all goes well EQ!:salute:

EDIT: I blame myself not looking/skipping at all the TWTUD stuff, which I'm not interested in...dope!:(Sorry.

The NES isn't dead yet so let's save our confessions for later. ;)
