OOC: The homelands of the Métis are in the northern Prairies, most notably based around Lake Winnipeg, but also spread widely throughout the west of Québec.
It is ongoing behaviour like this for which we have finally lost our tolerance.

The Sauk are guilty in two cases: the violation of the Fox treaty, and the wrongful invasion of Chicago. This coming after their recent violations of the persecution of the Isanti people. If the Lakota are pursuing a policy of pan-nativism, that's fine to Virginia. But we would bring to the attention of the Lakota the very western ties of the Sauk to Western Europe, particularly France. And with this power granted to it by the European imperialist, they continue to oppress Isanti minorities within their borders. The Sauk answer to a white king 4,000 miles away, and aren't even a part of your alliance.
Virginia has no plans of annexing the Sauk nation, but they must be punished for their insolence and continuing disturbances of the peace. Virginia would even be open to a compromise - we would very much welcome Lakota input in the setting up of a new Sauk nation, one that can live in peace and prosperity with its neighbors.

To be brief, Métis are people of mixed European and native descent, speaking French or a native-influenced dialect called Michif. In this timeline, continued French presence in the continent has allowed the Métis to spread further and become a more significant population.
EQ has approved this map showing the maximum extent of Métis populations, and the core regions of Métis population. Now, I'm not entirely sure about the Iroquois situation, it is quite possible that when the Iroquois were relocated into the west they displaced the Métis.
At any rate, (noting that I am not sure about the Métis situation in Iroquois core territories), this map shows the core territories where Métis are a majority population in dark slate, and regions where significant Métis populations exist.

OOC: I would assume that there would be little or no impetus for the Métis to break away from the Iroquois-controlled regions. In fact, it was probably the Métis themselves who defected to us in the Northwest after Quebec left.

This is a 24-hour warning for those who sent techs to others this last turn. If i do not get confirmation of sending, not everyone may recieve the techs they were supposed to. If that is the case, take it up with the lazy miscreants who failed to read any of these posts or the OOC section of the update.
That's the idea, although joining forces with the Iroquois to drive out the Québecois is not the same thing as joining the Iroquois.

Between the Collapse of French influence and protective capabilities in America, fall of Paris, Utter failure of Sauk military and being surrounded by enemies each many times stronger an Anschluss with to the Fox Republic seems to be the only way for the Sauk to remain independent from foreigners. Keep in mind that the Fox and Sauk more closely related than for example people for Southern France are related to those of Northern France. So by dissolving the Kingdom the Sauks can become part of something greater, a pan-Algonquian nation.
