A Brave New World Part 2

No more order revisions beyond this point. New orders are still accepted however.

Furthermore, I still need a political cartoon if anyone cares to provide one.

I restate my earlier opinion: Instead this is going to be another massive update. Fun times ahead.

Oh yes, this be the end of time to send more orders. Hoping to have the update done before daybreak, but boyo it is a biggun.

You deserve a round of applause for working so hard on these things. World wars are no small thing.

Hope this didn't keep you from seeing Obama's uber-important speech.

I'm crashing rather hard at the moment, of the 60 articles total to be written, 6 are done. The rest of the update will be finished tomorrow.

Nighty-night. If I can get my drawing scanned in tomorrow (turns out I don't have the scanner drivers) and sent to you before you finish, would you publish my cartoon? Or would it be too hard to insert it now?

It is my professional opinion on this matter of deep and significant importance that EQ may deign in such a large update to write three lines of text not including the img code for your cartoon. Surprisingly, it requires almost very little on his part.

TOTAL WAR IN THE AMERICAS. Osceola, Florida. The fighting between the Republic of New England and the International Socialist Cooperative Group has reached a fevered pitch this year throughout Canada and the Caribbean. The warfare in Canada has become more clearly a battle between the New Englander empire and the united forces of the socialists and communists. Further south, fighting for control over the islands of the Caribbean has been heated, as the socialists push forward from their victory last year off the coast of Jamaica. At the time no victor can be determined as the war is only like to grow bigger before the end.

RECESSION CONTINUES TO WORSEN. Tsarityn, Russian Federation. Throughout much of the world the recession continues to worsen as the war in the Caribbean escalates. Turmoil throughout the Americas has caused a decline in maritime trade from Boston and Port-au-Prince, formerly the shipping capitols of the world. Russian economists predict that the downward trend will continue until the global economy recovers from the gap caused by the increase in international warfare. As before, the listing of economic changes is here:

FIGHTING IN DESERET SPILLS OVER BORDERS. Bringhamton, Deseret. Various rebel militias within Deseret have continued their struggles to gain power in the country. The tactics have begun to change however, as the borders are used to bypass enemy positions at the expense of other nations. The militias have even launched raids against railroads and towns in the United Collectives of North America, hitting supply trains headed to Canada in the hopes of acquiring new weapons of their own. Other attacks have been launched into Louisiana and Texas, but militias and armies in those regions have been more successful at sealing the borders against marauders. (-6 Manpower for Deseret)

FLORIDA AND GEORGIA SIGN NEW PACT. Saint Augustine, Florida. As tensions and warfare rises throughout the rest of North America, the nations of Florida and Georgia, formerly hostile powers, have signed a new agreement. This pact of nonaggression pledges that both powers will do their utmost to avoid war with each other. Politicians in both nations, even among the oppositions, have lauded this pact, claiming that it’ll do much for stability and prosperity in the southeast. Nations within the new North American Treaty Organization have denounced Florida’s move in signing the agreement, calling it a betrayal of previous pacts and alliances to defend against Georgian aggression. Floridian leader Armando Graham has responded to these claims by stating that in recent years the prospect of Georgian aggression appears to be more of a myth than a reality.

RIOTS IN ALGONQUIN NATION. Fox Falls, Algonquin Nation. The old tensions between Sauk and Fox arose again this year as riots broke out between the two factions. No one is completely sure of the cause of the most recent outbreak of hostilities, but the violence has remained regionalized to areas in which the two tribes mingle the most. The recent death in exile of the Sauk king has made some of the followers of those ideals rowdy and angry. The rioting caused a large of property damage in the nation’s largest cities, while fortunately only a few hundred injuries and no deaths.

VIRGINIAN ELECTIONS. Richmond, Virginian Empire. Three parties continued to struggle for control of the Virginian Empire in elections this year. The Liberals continued to follow their calls for social reform and the development of negro rights within the larger country, an increasingly unpopular platform. The Conservative Party has denounced this moves for reform and call for a restoration of restrictions emplaced upon the negro population, stating that the freedom granted to them threatens the country with the possibility of a socialist rising. The Unity Party has shown itself to be a group of radicals, yet standing between the two older movements. They have called for the rebirth of Virginian strength and imperialism, bringing a new era of economic prosperity. Despite the rapid growth of the other political parties, the Liberal Party continued to hold on throughout the vicious campaign season. They have successfully retain control of the People’s House and government. (+1 Stability)

REPUBLICAN CANADA COLLAPSES. Toronto, Canada. The New Englander supported Republic of Canada failed under military and domestic pressure this year. With the nationalists advancing from the south and the communists from the west, the republicans were incapable of holding back the onslaught. The remnants of the republican leadership have fled across the St. Lawrence to the Republic of New England where they have fallen into exile. The armies of the republic have mostly agreed to join up with the ever increasing nationalist cause. They have made cries for war to hold back the communists however, discussing even possible compromises with the Quebecois in order to win the larger conflict. The New Englander forces have seized control of the republican fleet, to prevent it falling into national hands.

RACIAL VIOLENCE IN GEORGIA CONTINUES. Savannah, Georgia. As the 1937 elections near, both liberals and the Ku Klux Klan lobby among the populace for control. The process continues to be marred as racial militias continue actual fighting amongst themselves for control of the nation. Both negro and Klan militias have clashed in constant fighting while the military has been deployed to restore order in several urban hotspots. They have found themselves in brutal city battles as house to house fighting takes place in some of the poorer areas of the main cities of Georgia. Civilian casualties are believed to be in the thousands as sides retaliate against each other and the violence continues to escalate. (-6 Manpower, -1 Stability)

NEW JERSEY IN REVOLT. Trenton, Pennsylvania. The continuing harsh presence of the Pennsylvanian military has risen the ire of the French people of New Jersey. The Pennsylvanians have continued to crack down upon perceived leaders of possible rebel movements. This in turn has caused the rise of greater organization of the rebels as more leaders step forward. Agitation continued to grow throughout the year until Trenton and several other cities rose in open revolt against the Pennsylvanian army. The military cracked down harshly upon the cities of New Jersey and vicious battles erupted across the region. The Pennsylvanian government has issued martial law, promising to maintain a tight control over the state. (-5 Infantry Brigades, -1 Stability)

UNREST IN TEXAS. Texas City, Texan Republic. The fighting in Deseret has caused a spilling over of violence into the neighboring nation of Texas as well as into the United Collectives of North America. Several militias formed in the region to seal the border from refugees and Mormon militias have begun causing trouble in their own right throughout northern Texas. These militias have effectively seized control of their towns throughout the region from civilian authority. Mayors have been lynched by the militias while their leaders establish their own governments. They have claimed that the government has abandoned them and that they are alone in their struggle against foreign invasion. To make matters worse, the militia leaders have even rallied elements of the military to join them in their localized organizations. (-1 Stability, -7 Infantry Brigades, -2 Artillery Brigades, -2 Taylor Brigades joining the militias)

NEW ALLIANCE CREATED. Richmond, Virginian Empire. The apparent failure of the United Nation States of America has led to the collapse of that alliance and the end of the East Atlantic Customs Union. The remnants of the alliance and the economic pact have been reformed by various members into the North American Treaty Organization, a much smaller collection of nations. Consisting of the Texan Republic, the Empire of Louisiana, and the Virginian Empire, this group has pledged to help each other economically and politically in the increasingly unstable continent of North America.

SWEDES CLOSE IMPERIAL WATERS TO MILITARY SHIPPING. Nassau, Swedish Empire. The rising war between the Republic of New England and the International Socialist Cooperative Group have led to the deployment of the Swedish Navy to the Caribbean and Hawaii. The Swedish government has announced to all parties concerned that military vessels will no longer be allowed to travel through Swedish territorial waters around Hawaii or the Bahamas. The Swedish fleet has announced that any armed vessels sailing into their waters will be considered hostile and sunk following a single warning.

WAR CONTINUES IN CANADA. Toronto, Canada. The fighting in Canada continued without end this year, as the Nationalist Canadians took over Republican positions and forces. They achieved further success with the collapse and retreat of the New Englander pocket on the Niagara Peninsula, forcing them to fall back into New England proper. The nationalists then soon found themselves fighting the communists who proved to be an even more determined foe. The fighting was brutal, but with superior numbers the nationalists managed to retain control of republican territory against the waves of communist forces. Further north, a much larger force of United Collectives and Socialist Union troops pushed against the Quebecois, breaking the front and forcing their way east. They were soon met by expeditionary forces from New England, and the lines ultimately held against the onslaught though the communists continue to advance forward. A brutal winter has also played a part in the slowing of communist forces, who most of which were unprepared both psychologically and physically for the typical Canadian winter. In the air fighting has broken out as planes struggle for control of the skies for one of the first times in warfare. So far the contest is undetermined, but zeppelins have proven their lack of value in the new style of combat.

TENNESSEE ELECTIONS. Nashville, Tennessee. Elections in Tennessee this year were hotly disputed as the Conservative Party, friendly to the Co-Axial Pact, struggled to stay on top. The rising strength of the Liberal Party in opposition to the conservative views and in favor of Virginia over Georgia. They have denounced the recent introduction of the highway system to Tennessee as a way to spread further Georgian rule over them, a claim which has angered many. The elections proved that the Liberals had a strong chance of securing control of the government, successfully gaining a majority in the nation’s congress. Despite this, the Conservative Party continues to retain control of the presidency, a state of affairs which many Liberals believe was rigged by agents of the reigning party. (-2 Stability)

METIS ELECTIONS. Winnipeg, Metis Syndicate. Metis elections this year showed a rise of an interesting new party which may well destabilize the nation ever further, as well as the war effort in Canada. The Parti d'Esprit Français believes that they represent the true future of the nation with the rise of a newly independent Quebec. They believe in alignment with France and sympathize with the Co-Axial Pact as the possibility of war grows. In order to maintain some support against this rising national movement, the Syndicate Party has had to move to the right, alienating some of the socialist base of the movement, who have turned to the communists instead. (-2 Stability)

VIRGINIAN LIBERALS ANNOUNCE NEW POLICY. Richmond, Virginian Empire. The Virginian Liberal Party announced a new policy this year which outraged elements of the Unity Party and the Conservative Party, nearly costing the reigning party in the elections. The government has announced that Negroes can now serve in new Negro Brigades to be attached to the regular army and led by white officers. The concept of actually arming the Negro has outraged many, but the capabilities of combat of the blacks in the fighting in Tennessee and Georgia over recent years has led some to believe that perhaps the negro can be a good soldier. The effects of this will be seen over time, particularly as the Virginian Empire offers voting rights to any Negro who serves in the armed forces for a period of eight years or more. NAVAL DISPUTE GROWS IN NORTHEAST. New York City, Republic of New England. After last year’s confrontation, tensions have continued to grow between Pennsylvania and the Republic of New England. Pennsylvania has demanded that all foreign warships stay at least five miles away from their coastlines. However, this includes some territory considered by New England to be her territorial waters, and they continue to patrol. A Pennsylvanian halt of a New Englander patrol led to a major naval confrontation as the First Fleet steamed out of New York City harbor to confront the Pennsylvanians. Faced with overwhelming firepower, the admiral of the Pennsylvanian fleet continued to refuse to back down. After escalating tension, the present Titan-class battleship fired a single salvo which sunk a Pennsylvanian battleship. The strength of the New Englander fleet quickly became apparent and the Pennsylvanian fleet withdrew. (-1 Victory-class battleship for Pennsylvania)

CHILE ELECTIONS. Santiago, Chile. Chilean elections this year have been dominated by the recent occupation of Bolivia and the possibility of war against Peru and the Republic of New England. Conservatives in the nation have led a massive move against the war and initially they began leading in efforts to secure control of the nation. The edge began disappearing however when they began directly attacking Chile’s membership in the International Socialist Cooperative Group, claiming that it was a organization destined for disaster, a belief not held by most Chileans. Though the conservatives were ultimately defeated, they managed to raise quite a large bit of support from their accusations against the Socialists, and many believe that should a war break out, they’ll have the 1940 elections in the bag. (-2 Stability)

HAITIAN ELECTIONS. Port-au-Prince, Empire of Haiti. The Empire of Haiti was torn apart by recriminations in elections this year. The Liberal Party government has been ridiculed and dominated by conservatives, who state that they have led the country to the brink of disaster. The conservatives have denounced what is effectively an alliance of their country with the International Socialist Cooperative Group, while further citing the tens of thousands of brave Haitians sent to their death by the Liberal Party. Because of all of the grave mistakes of the current government, it is said that the nation has been brought to the brink of self-destruction. The Conservative Party has won elections, promising the immediate eviction of the socialist air bases as well as a new order which does not involve sending Haitians to die for imperialist goals on the African continent. (+1 Stability)

BELIZE ELECTIONS. Belize City, Belize. The outbreak of war in the Caribbean has left a feeling of concern for Central American nations, who believe that their commerce may be threatened by the intensifying naval war between New England and the United Collectives of North America. Philosophically siding with the United Collectives, the nation’s Liberal Party has denounced the use of unrestricted submarine warfare within the Caribbean. The nation’s Conservative Party has offered an opposing few stating that this war could be Belize’s chance to rise from the shadow of Mexico City and claim its own destiny as a Mayan state. The sinking of a pair of merchant vessels later in the year dramatically altered the elections, as the Liberals said it demonstrated the perfidy of New England and its allies, and they ultimately achieved victory. (+1 Stability)

BUENOS AIRES IN REVOLT. Buenos Aires, Argentine Collectives Federation. The city of Buenos Aires, a long time bastion of capitalism in South America, has risen in open revolt against the government of the Federation. The rebellion has no known source, but the rebel leadership claimed that the unjust activities of the communists against peaceful neighbors shows the true colors of the Red Scourge. The military was soon called out to crush the rebellion, and after brutal fighting the forces of Buenos Aires were crushed. Other cities along the coast have protested the activities of the government, calling for new elections and the ousting of the communist regime as the sole party of the nation. (-10 Manpower, -4 Infantry Brigades)

HAITI IN TURMOIL. Port-au-Prince, Empire of Haiti. The government of Haiti, before the recent elections, faced a large number of new problems among the people of their empire. The nation seethes in a state of near civil war as the people reject the recent activities of the government. A large number blame the emperor for his actions in persuading the Haitian government into war against both Ovambia and Nova Scotia, while declaring his efforts to create an African empire against the very nature of the nation. Anti-monarch riots have erupted throughout the country, and the elections were partially influenced by this, see above for complete details on the election. The island of Hispaniola as well as the various sugar islands have had numerous riots as the military is called away to fight in Africa. With no strong force to contain the rioting, the damages have been great and civilian casualties high. Many believe that the nation is on the very brink of a devastating internal war. Other problems demonstrated have been the recent allowance of communist bases on Haitian soil to strike at New England, an action which many claim to be against all previous policies and beliefs of the Haitian nation. The mobilization for war has even more outraged the people, as the nation begins to slip into chaos. (-5 Stability, -1 Manpower)

NEW MILITARY GOVERNMENT SEIZES POWER IN PERU. Lima, Peru. The Castro government in Peru was ousted this year, even as the nation stands on the precipice of war with the International Socialist Cooperative Group. Elements of the Peruvian military, believing that the leader has grown too soft in his old age, have ousted the military president after a short battle against loyalists. They have vowed to maintain their freedom from all oppressors, communist or otherwise, and to build up new and strong relations with the forces of allied Colombia and Venezuela. (-2 Infantry Brigades, -1 Stability)

END OF THE WAR IN PARAGUAY. Asunción, Paraguay. The war in Paraguay has come to a close as the powers of the International Socialist Cooperative Group agree to withdraw as new elections are held. Under the guidance of Paraguayan president Salazar and his main opposition leaders, a new constitution was drawn up. Under the new constitution elections will be held every four years, beginning with this year. The perceived victory over the socialist powers, as the nation held off an assault by millions of soldiers, has led to an easy victory of Salazar’s Conservative Party, who have gained the support of the masses. The people have expressed their support for Salazar’s government, coming out in droves to honor their president who was able to hold off the unholy hordes of communism. The capture of several Socialist convoys attempt to spark a rebellion have led to even greater popular support for the president than before as the socialist attempt to undermine the stability of the fledgling republic. At this time Bolivia remains under Chilean occupation, particularly as war threatens with Peru and the Republic of New England. The nations of Chile and the Socialist Union of South America have done their best to provide for the refugees as the region at last has a chance to rebuild from the rubble of unending war. The various nations of the International Socialist Cooperative Group have done their best to display this long and bloody conflict as a victory, but with Bolivia in ruins and Salazar still in charge of Paraguay, many people believe the war was futile. This has led a rise in unrest and discontent against the governments of several of these nations, as the people believe that they had been led into a pointless war. (+2 Stability for Paraguay, -1 Stability for SUSA, Chile, and Argentina)

WAR FOR THE CARIBBEAN. Caracas, Venezuela. The war between the Republic of New England and the International Socialist Cooperative Group has proven to be a conflict of enormous scale. The fighting in the Caribbean can attest to that as forces of the United Collectives and the Socialist Union of South America begin their push against the Republic’s armies. Last year’s defeat of the New Englander Fourth Fleet off the coast of Jamaica has given the socialists great leeway in their operations, enabling them to push ever forward against only minimal resistance on the high seas. Though this overwhelming dominance came to an end by the end of the year, whether or not the socialists can maintain their supremacy has yet to be seen. Due to the scale of the conflict, a single paragraph cannot do the war justice. Therefore, the articles between this and the European section have been reserved exclusively for details of this war.

FIGHTING FOR CUBA. Havana, Cuba. A major part of the year’s conflict came over the island nation of Cuba. An escalating air war has proven to be the key to the fighting as socialist bombers strike at the various industrial centers of the island from bases in the Yucatan and Jamaica. The Cuban valor in defense has displayed itself throughout the year, as Cuban fighter pilots have successfully engaged the socialists in battle after battle, hitting them after they leave from bombing strikes. Cuba has vowed vengeance for every bomb dropped on Cuban soil, claiming that for each bomb dropped, ten socialists would be slain in retaliation. The war escalated with the socialist invasion of De La Juventud, a island to the south of the main part of Cuba. UCNA troops have occupied the island for use of the bases there, however the heavy fighting which took place and the constant raids by Cuban Ospreys have left any attempt to build airfields on the rock to be futile. The Cubans have vowed a liberation of the island at the soonest possible moment.
Casualty List
Cuba: 4 Infantry Brigades, 1 Oliver Mk 2 Squadron
United Collectives of North America: 3 Marine Brigades, 1 Infantry Brigade, 1 PA-1 Squadron, 3 AFB-01 Squadrons

WAR ON THE HIGH SEAS. Kingston, Jamaica. The war for control of the seas throughout most of the year was a conflict between United Collectives ships and various submarines throughout the year. Socialist ships, having learned from activities in supplying the Union of Chinese Collectives, were armed and well trained in the art of identifying and sinking submarines. This came in handy with the entry of Louisianan submarines into the theater, which began sinking socialist shipping across the Caribbean. The response from the socialists was rapid, as various light ships began action against the submarine raiders. Submarines remained active throughout the year, acting as the main hindrance to socialist naval superiority until the Battle of Puerto Rico.
Casualty List
United Collectives of North America: 5 Destroyers, 1 Light Cruiser
Belize: 1 Destroyer
Jamaica: 1 Destroyer, 2 Submarines
Empire of Louisiana: 10 MR Submarines, 22 LR Submarines
New England: 4 MR Submarines, 1 LR Submarine

BATTLE OF PUERTO RICO. San Juan, Republic of New England. The greatest confrontation between New England and the forces of the ISCG came upon the New Englander state of Puerto Rico. The fighting began with the use of Haitian air bases to bomb New Englander installations on Puerto Rico, catching the garrison by surprise. Some planes were destroyed on the airfields, while the remnants of the Fourth Fleet were devastated by the bombing, including the flagship of that defunct force. The bombing continued throughout the year, softening defenses and leading to a massive air war as New Englander planes arrived. The New Englander fighter pilots proved more than a match for the SUSA fighters they fought against. As the air war continued, UCNA forces were brought in for a full scale invasion of the island after the victory off the coast of Cuba. United Collectives forces landed under heavy fire as the new Osprey dive bombers struck against the ships and troops of the communists. Fighting continued as the forces of the socialists remained dug in on the beaches. The true battle for the fate of the island began at sea as the vicious struggle on land continued. SUSA bombers spotted a strong New England fleet steaming towards the islands, which larger ships than ever before spotted. The UCNA coaled up and moved to engage. However, to the shock of the fleet, the New Englander vessels fired upon them before they were even in sight of each other, throwing massive shells over twenty miles to hit the enemy. These shells tore the capitol ships apart, using the massive coal smoke pillars to target and destroy a large number of socialist vessels, sinking two battleships before the battle even truly began. When the main fleets finally met in battle after constant attacks by Osprey bombers and the long range guns of the new Titan-class battleships, the UCNA fleet managed to acquit themselves rather well. One of the New England battleships was sunk, as were a number of smaller ships in the fighting. However, the majority of UCNA ships were utterly destroyed, including all capital ships, forcing the fleet to flee from the island. This left a large number of socialist troops trapped and without supply as further air reinforcements arrived as well. Faced with encirclement by land and sea, the United Collective forces on Puerto Rico were forced to surrender to the New Englander army.
Casualty List
Republic of New England: 3 Infantry Brigades, 1 Marine Brigade, 2 Artillery Brigades, 3 Destroyers, 5 Light Cruisers, 2 Heavy Cruisers, 1 Imperial-class Battleship, 1 Eclipse-class Battleship, 1 Zeppelin Bomber Squadron, 2 Oliver Mk 2 Squadrons, 2 Osprey Squadrons
United Collectives of North America: 5 Marine Brigades, 2 Infantry Brigades, 2 Artillery Brigades, 11 Destroyers, 4 Light Cruisers, 7 Heavy Cruisers, 8 Atlantic-class Battleships

BULGARIA ELECTIONS. Sofia, Bulgaria. A surprise upset in elections came in the nation of Bulgaria this year, as the monarchist backing Conservative Party has been ousted from control of the government. Calling for social reform and other domestic changes, the liberals have been previously suppressed by the government, including methods of shutting down newspapers and other bodies which spoke out against the king’s pet policies. Despite another year of similar efforts against them, the Liberals have managed to successfully gain control of the nation’s Duma. The conservatives have called for a new election, and the king has denounced the success of the radical liberal movement. Rumblings in the military have suggested that action may be taken against the new government, but most are hesitant in the process of waiting for a response from the Russian Federation towards these events. (-5 Stability)

SERBIA ELECTIONS. Belgrade, Serbia. The Serbian government’s efforts to maintain the Conservative Party rule continued this year despite the 1931 Russian support for free elections. The Serbian conservatives managed to once again keep a lid on all media outlets, including the new radio, while flooding the nation with propaganda and information of their own. The arrest of several major opposition leaders also brought about a shattering of the Liberal Party membership, as it quickly became even more dangerous to oppose the party of the monarchy. With all these tactics, the Conservative Party has yet again won control of the nation’s Duma while dividing the nation domestically further. (-1 Stability)

MONARCHISTS SEIZE POWER IN PORTUGAL. Lisbon, Portugal. The national Conservative Party of Portugal has worked with the military to secure a new era for the nation. All parties besides the conservatives have been barred from any regional control while absolute authority has been placed in the hands of the monarch and his closest advisors within the Congress and military. The coup went bloodlessly to the relief of many as a new order is established in Portugal. The Portuguese monarch has declared this to be a great step forward to the strength of the nation’s empire and power. (-1 Stability)

ANTI-PIRACY CONFERENCE HELD. Athens, Greece. The nations of the Mediterranean Sea met this year to discuss the rise of piracy throughout the body of water. The conference began with recriminations as the French and Italian governments accused Greece and Tunisia of supporting and harboring the pirates. Mediation by other powers prevented the collapse of the conference, but it did not go very well from there. With little information on the pirates or their national origins, many felt that there was little anyone could really do at this point. Some representatives suggested a combined naval operation to help reign in the attacks, but disputes over who would lead such an endeavor quickly led to the collapse of support for that notion. The rise of fighting between Tunisian and French vessels throughout the central Mediterranean led to the end of the conference as delegates felt there was little more they could do to maintain the peace.

HUNGARIAN BUILDUP THREATENS STABILITY. Budapest, Hungary. A massive draft was held this year caused great disruption in the nation of Hungary. Nearly a million men have been called up to serve in the nation’s military, raising great outrage against the government. The move has also deprived factories of their workers, sparking a new recession in the Central European nation. Massive protests have been held, while a large number of soldiers have simply walked away from the training camps, which have been overflowing with recruits. Asked why they would pursue such a foolhardy course for the nation, the government could only respond with vague threats of French or Italian invasion, which most believe is utter nonsense. Opposition leaders have called for immediate demilitarization to help revive the nation’s failing economy. (-3 Stability, -30 Infantry Brigades)

DUTCH OPEN DOORS FOR COLONIAL MILITARY SERVICE. Amsterdam, Republic of the Netherlands. The Dutch government passed a highly controversial bill this year allowing service by colonial natives of Indonesia to serve in localized military forces. This move has been hotly disputed and some people claim shenanigans in the passing of the bill. The fear is that elements of the Liberal Party influenced conservatives members of the Moderate Party to pass the bill through blackmail or other dastardly tactics. The statement that the natives don’t even need to speak Dutch or be Christian has outraged people at home, threatening the collapse of the ruling coalition. Massive protests have been held against the bill, threatening instability both in the colonies and at home. (-3 Stability in the Netherlands, -1 Stability in Indonesia)

ESCALATION OF VIOLENCE IN MEDITERRANEAN. Palermo, Republic of Italy. The piracy in the Mediterranean and the failure of the Athens Conference has led to some minor naval actions in the sea. The French navy has begun effectively shutting down Tunisian trade by boarding and detaining crew members suspected of piracy. Some small battles have been fought between French and Tunisian fleets, as individual captains take it upon themselves to initiate combat. Several French submarines have been sunk as have some Tunisian surface vessels. Politicians in both nations have espoused their desire to avoid war, but many believe one may soon be coming.

RUSSIAN GREAT LIBRARY BUILT. St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. The Russian government has sponsored the construction of the world’s largest library in the city of St. Petersburg. They have bought out numerous private collections of books and manuscripts to fill up the library, including some of the rarest such works in the world. They have collected books of all languages and nations, hoping to establish the world’s largest literary archive. In addition, the government has established a state-run research university attached to the library to encourage historical studies and development of new achievements for mankind.

RUSSIA LAUNCHES FIRST PASSENGER PLANES. Moscow, Russian Federation. The Russian government has helped establish new plane airports to help spur the creation of the nation’s first passenger plane airlines. Providing a quicker, though less leisurely, method of transportation than zeppelins previously did, the new Russian International Airline has great promise for transportation efforts in the Russian Federation. Some suggest that these developments could even lead to revolutions in warfare as planes could be used to drop entire armies behind the lines of enemies in combat.

African/Middle Eastern News Report

TURKISH ELECTIONS. Ankara, Turkish Sultanate. The Turkish National Party has once again dominated elections this year, thriving on the success of the establishment of a Turkish state over an Ottoman one. Domestically, they have also proven to be successful, making native Turk industries ever more prosperous internally despite the loss in territory and prestige. The Nationals continue to be popular as they improve the nation’s stature internationally by membership in the Athens Conference as well as their neutrality between tensions among other Middle Eastern nations. KURDISTAN ELECTIONS. Mosul, Kurdistan. The Kurdish government was torn asunder this year with the vicious elections held between the two leading parties, the conservatives and liberals. The rise of a new Persian government has led to calls for the annexation of Persia’s Kurdish provinces in the west, and the addition of them to the independent Kurd state. The Conservative Party has harnessed the nationalist power behind this cries and have vowed to obtain control of Kurdish Persia as their main platform of government. The people of Kurdistan have rallied behind the Conservative Party, as they hope for a great new dawn for the Kurdish people. (-1 Stability)

FIGHTING CONTINUES IN ALGERIA. Algiers, French Empire. Raiding and warfare continued throughout Algeria this year, sparked by last year’s rise in violence. Villages and towns throughout the southern regions of the French colony continue to get raided by unknown forces and marauders, although many believe this to be escalation of some sort of tribal rivalry. French outposts have also continued to get hit and a surprising number have actually been utterly destroyed by the attackers. Whether through sheer number or otherwise, the problem remains poor communications, relying on the single railroad which pushes through the region to other points in the more southern reaches of the continent. ZEMBRA FORTIFIED BY TUNISIA. Tunis, Tunisia. The Tunisian government, stating for cause the rise of piracy and the threat of the French navy, has constructed a major fortress on the island of Zembra. This modern new citadel is proclaimed to be the strongest fortification in the world, easily a second Gibraltar. The fortification sports some of the heaviest artillery pieces the region possesses and is stated to be a barrier to any threats against Tunisian commerce or the capitol. The various parties within the government have lauded the military for their new project, but suggest that perhaps the massive expense required may not have been necessary for the nation’s economic situation.

DANES CRACK DOWN ON NIJERIA. Christiansburg, Danish Empire. Danish military and police forces have launched an incredibly successful series of raids against the Quit Nijeria Movement and their supporters this year. The Danish government has ordered an immediate end to the now illegal organization and their efforts to break Nijeria away from the Danish Empire. The main leaders have been arrested for treason and imprisoned throughout the colony. Anyone with relations to the organization have been detained, and the move seems to have quickly crushed the movement. No protests have materialized despite government fears and the operations seemed to have been a great success. The Danish people have lauded the government for returning pride and stability to the empire. (+1 Stability for Denmark, +6 Stability for Nijeria)

NEW PERSIAN GOVERNMENT EMERGES. Tehran, Persia. The brief coalition government in Persia has been ousted by a popular coup d’etat, and a new constitution has been established much like the Republic of China’s constitution. This has led to the new republic’s first elections, in which the nation’s Conservative Party achieved victory over various smaller groups. The nation’s new president has become incredibly popular among the younger people of the nation, though more traditional people are concerned about the lack of policies towards rising threats. The recent demands from Kurdistan and the result of the oil nationalization leave many people anxious about the possibility of war in their newfound republic.

PERSIA NATIONALIZES OIL FIELDS. Tehran, Persia. With the rise of a new government in Persia, comes the rise of new and revolutionary policies. The nation’s Conservative Party has seized and nationalized the country’s oil fields, greatly angering the Russian and Virginian businessmen who previously possessed the territory. Calls have been heard in both Richmond and St. Petersburg for immediate intervention in Persia to restore control to their oil sources. The Persian people have grown nervous as threats of war begin to emanate from two of the world’s more powerful countries.

TUNISIA JOINS ALLIANCE. Tunis, Tunisia. The government of Tunisia has joyfully announced its admittance into the United Islam Pact with the Turkish Sultanate and the nation of Egypt. The rise in tensions between France and Tunisia has greatly contributed to this pact as the Tunisians link themselves with one of the stronger powers on the Mediterranean Sea. They hope that this alliance will help provide the strength and protection they need to preserve their independence.

FIGHTING IN NOVA BRAZIL ENDS. Porto Pedro, Nova Brazil. The remnants of the Haitian expedition to Nova Brazil have been forced to withdraw following a humiliating defeat of their armed forces. The overwhelming numbers of the Brazilians proved to be too much for the Haitians, who were forced to withdraw after their main pockets were crushed. The Brazilian emperor has denounced the Haitians for the invasion and the European Alliance of Nations for their failure to intervene. He has pledged to build ties with the Co-Axial Pact as they seem to represent the “wave of the future.”
Casualty List

SYRIAN ELECTIONS. Damascus, Syria. The Syrian government has held its first true elections since gaining independence from the Ottoman Empire this year. Though previously elections have been held, establishing a ruling coalition, now is the time for one party to show its dominance. Fortunately for the stability of the nation the democratic process held true and a new republic has secured its internal position in the Middle East. Syria’s first ruling party is another coalition of both conservatives and liberals, as well as from Christian and Islamic groups. They have pledged to hold the nation together at any cost, preserving a free republic in the Middle East alongside that of Palestine and Kurdistan. (+2 Stability)

KOREANS COMPLETE INDUSTRIAL PROJECT. Seoul, Korean Empire. A large scale Korean development project, lasting over the course of nearly five years, has at last been completed, signaling a rise of new industries for the government. Focusing upon the construction of chemical plants and development, they have found very limited markets for their new goods. These industries continue to struggle despite government assistance, finding only markets within Korea and a few other very select nations. Many believe that the Korean government may be a bit ahead of their time and that the world does not quite yet need the large scale plants currently created. For the time though, they remain on the verge of collapse while perhaps a strong investment for the near future.

DUTCH PASS NEW IMMIGRATION ACT. Sydney, Republic of the Netherlands. The Dutch Congress passed the New Holland Homestead Act this year, opening up much new land to settlement in the hope of attracting more immigrants to the region. They have offered great tracts of open land for settlement for anyone from certain regions of the globe. They have offered the land specifically to people from the eastern coast of North America as well as Europe, promising land to any white settlers who choose to make it their home. They have even offered to pay for transportation to the colony. This act, while not completely successful has attracted some people to take the Dutch government up upon the offer, and New Holland has begun to see its first wave of fresh immigrants. This of course has been a unpopular move with the Boer settlers of the continent, who have officially protested this move to the Dutch government. (-1 Stability in New Holland)

CHINESE REGULATE AIR WAVES. Lanzhou, Republic of China. With the recent broadcasts by the perceived cult leader in Guangxi, the Republican government of China has passed legislation regulating the use of radios within the nation. All those who broadcast radios now require use of a government issued license, handed out very rarely. The government of China is the first nation to regulate the use of radio within their nation, and other international leaders are considering similar policies. This new program has many countries considering the downsides of the ever growing radio media.

The Seven Queens
Type: Moving Picture
Genre: Historical Drama
Producer: Lionhead Studios
Running Time: 122 minutes
Summary: The Seven Queens is one of the first major English film productions, discussing the time of the Tudors, and the various women who were claimants to the crown during that period. The depiction of the period was designed with elaborate sets, though many believe that the quality of the film doesn’t quite compare to a Russian moving picture. The movie goes from the start of the Anglican Church and the victories over the Catholic Church which emerged from the efforts of Henry VIII and those who followed him. Many believe that the film is England’s first addition to the world’s collections of truly great cinematic works.

CINEMA TO SERVE AS PROPAGANDA? Boston, Republic of New England. Recent activities within the Argentine Collectives Federation and the Republic of New England have shown a new possible outlet for government propaganda. These nations have both begun airing so-called “newsreels” before the airing of feature films, displaying ongoing events throughout the world, and focusing on affairs of state. In Argentina this was predominantly used to illustrate the crimes of the Salazar government in Paraguay during the late war. Now they are used in the Republic of New England to show the brutality being unleashed Canada and Quebec by the onslaught of the communist armies.

OLYMPIC COMMITTEE IN DISPUTE. Copenhagen, Danish Empire. The outbreak of the major war between the Republic of New England and the International Socialist Cooperative Group sends dark clouds over Providence, the selected city for the 1936 Olympics. The International Olympic Committee has made the shocking statement that the Olympics will go forward in Providence regardless of the ongoing conflict, stating that they hope that peace can be brought forward while New England is under the gaze of the community of nations. Other announcements have been made of plans for the 1944 Olympic Games. The situation on the North American continent, where that year’s games are slated to be held, seems unstable and many fear that further war will make requests for cities in the region prove unwise. The committee has scoured the world looking for other possible sites for the ’44 games. The first of these is the city of Peking, recently reconstructed by the diligent efforts of the Republic of China. They believe that the Olympics should be held there because of the distance from the more unstable regions of the world, and as a sign that the new government of China is now a respected member of the international club of countries. The growing prosperity of Egypt has also not gone unnoticed by the committee, who have suggested that the city of Cairo be considered for the Olympics. Lastly, one North American nation which has shown signs of stability has been selected, the Republic of New France. Well away from the Caribbean war zone, the Republic of New France’s capitol of New Caen has been picked as the third possible choice. As before, the results of the committee’s debate will be announced at the closing ceremonies of the 1936 games.

AMERICAN CUP. Atlanta, Georgia. Warfare and military drafts have led to a rising change in the sport of football throughout the Americas. With many of North America’s finest athletes now serving in their national militaries or killed in civil strife or warfare, previously nonentities in the world of football have risen to the forefront of the game. Among these is the Atlanta Football Club which had a moderately successful season, winning barebones victories one at a time. In the final game they came up against the battered Richmond Football Club, which lost several members to the military, and won a close victory over the disorganized Virginian team. The Atlanta Football Club has returned home with great fame and success, marking the first time that a Georgian team has won the Cup.

EUROPEAN CUP. Budapest, Romania. As in North America, a rise in national militarization and recruitment has led to a drain of strength from some of the best teams in Europe. This year saw two previously unknown teams reach the top of the charts in the European Cup. The Romanian Oradea Football Club met up against the Vienna Football Club in the city of Budapest this year. The Romanian team emerged victorious, creating another first in the organized sport of football. This is the first time in the history of the European Cup that a team from the Russian Imperial Protectorate has won a game.

To those concerned: research does not have to be a set amount of turn based spending as it would have been in Imperial Glory. Instead, it is simply a matter of spending part of your total EP per turn as if you had be researching on a tech tree instead.

@Milaqui: While I have no problem with the concept of your unit design, what you suggest makes me wonder exactly what the differences would be between a long range sub and this one. Also, why would you prefer this over a long range vessel? Seems to be almost a downgrade. I’ve banked the excess EP for your use in possibly refining the design.

@SoldierChild: I had a couple of in character issues with your homestead act and have refined the update article because of it. Recall please that the settlers of New Holland are displaced Boers from Africa. They don’t want negroes, and they don’t care about alleged native claims either, that goes for your government too in most respects.

Your theft of rightful Virginian and Russian property is not acceptable. Return Virginian assets to their rightful owners or face the consequences.

To New England
From Virginia

While we may not see eye to eye on every issue, and although our nations are no longer officially tied together by treaty, both Virginia and New England now have a common cause in Canada. We must destroy the communist presence on the Great Lakes, and we must do this together.
