People of Guatemala, good evening.

I would hope that I find you all safe and well tonight, but this is something that I know is not true for many of you. It is only today, on the first anniversary of the death of my wife, Tatiana, that I have begun to truly reflect upon the history of our people and our future. For the past 18 years of my service, since I rose from vice-president to succeed my father, I apologize. I have ruled, yes, but I have not been a ruler. For this, there can be no excuse.

Today will bring a new cycle in history of this land. Since the days long before the founding of our nation, when the people spoke not Spanish, but Mayan, this land has lived in squalor. It has been centuries since we have aspired beyond the here and now. We cannot live looking at only today and expect to prosper.

For many years, our nation has sought security and order, but order for what? We have secured our borders and the continuation of our government, but is that all there is? For many more years than I care to recount, I have said "yes" to these questions. Today, I dare to say no. There is much our nations can be proud of, but there are so many more things we can accomplish. That is why at this very moment, construction begins on one of the largest projects in the history of this land. Right now we build roads, but soon we will be building schools, churches, hospitals and a country worthy of its people. Outside my office, I have consultants and advisers from every level of our nation. If I am to rule, I wish to know the hearts and minds of those I rule over, through and through. And if I am to be worthy to rule, I must do my best to secure the best possible future for my people, and my nation. With some cooperation, together we can build something we can all be proud of.

In the office of Acturo Menso

The cameraman left the room, and Acturo slumped back into his chair. With his eyes closed, he savored the few, bittersweet minutes alone where he was no longer Presidente Acturo Menso, absolute leader of the nation of Guatemala, but rather Acturo Menso, an aging man in his mid-50s who just wanted to go find the nearest flower vendor, buy some lilies, and spend the rest of the day at his wife's mausoleum.

"Dios Mios, Tati, what have I gotten myself into? Who am I to change this country? I'm not some national hero, I'm just a burro, a fool." Acturo knew what she would say, that she would rather have a foolish burro for a husband than a national hero since a burro does more honest work. She'd also tell him to pray to God, something he hadn't started until the first time he found her lying unconscious. The memories came flooding back again and he almost wept, which wouldn't have been the first time today. When the knock came from the door, however, Presidente Menso sat up in his chair, once again the strong, powerful man who had just spoken to his people. "Come in, Gonzalo, come in." Gonzalo always came in after the weekly broadcasts

"That was not a half bad address, presidente. Tati would've loved it." Gonzalo Sical, besides being an adviser to Menso, was also a family friend and Godfather to their now grown children.

"Thank you, Gonzalo." As much as Acturo appreciated the sentiments, it made him want to go see his wife even more. He sat there quiet for a moment.

Gonzalo broke the silence. "Now, presidente, for the next eight hours, we're going to have to keep your "advisers" from slitting each others throats, but if we can do that I think we can start to figure out how... ... Oh no! You've got that look in your eye." Gonzalo swore as Menso smiled. "Whenever you get that look in your eye, I end up dealing with the complaints. Do you know how long it took to find half of these men, let alone get them to agree to meet you? What am I going to tell them? Acturo? Acturo!?!"

"Tell them I went out to get flowers." And with that, Acturo Menso went to go tend to his wife's grave.

I made the corrections. Also, as far as I know, "Acturo" is not an Spanish name, the nearest thing would be Arturo (not an insult, EQ, just me pointing it out).

Refugee's of any sort will be killed for being non-Muslims, unless they are Muslims in which case they will be killed for a different reason.

New Holland finds this statement worrying. It's bad enough Pancasila kills innocents without even deporting them, but what about emergency landings of ships and planes? Will we receive our ships, goods and sailors back? And as for planes, does Pancasila claim its airspace as Allah's domain and thus anyone to land as deserving the death penalty? In which case we would have to consider rerouting our flightways.
At any rate New Holland is as always the home of those persecuted and we kindly ask that you turn over your refugees to us.

Well I've been working on the update through the night, and I'm going to get at least a little sleep before simply collapsing. It's a particualrly long update, considering the amount of orders (Not saying it's a bad thing!), the large amount of national elections, and the various other events. This is combined with a couple of fixes to the rules that I've discovered in the process, and some clarifications for some of you on the rules that I've discovered while reading your orders. It's a work in progress, but the good news is, I'm about 70% complete with the update as a whole.

Yay! Looking forward to progress! :)

Egypt urges the rest of the world to not pay attention to this petty attempt at garnering attention.

Egypt on the other hand, will gladly receive any refugees in the unlikely event that they somehow find their way here.

Nijeria will accept refugees from mad imperialists and mad theocrats alike.

I'd just like to say that I like the amount of stories that have been posted so far, and good ones at that. :D If we can keep it up through the duration of the NES, it will be one to remember. It seems that the most memorable NESes are the ones most characterized with stories, in my opinion.

Toteone, Poland is in Central Europe....

Imo, ABNW Poland is part of Eastern Europe. It was far less independence-seeking under the Russian Federation (which gave it a plethora of rights), and had that disastrous war not happened, it would probably no longer have a national identity of being "Polish" by now.

That's great, EQ! We really hope to see it tomorrow, All Hallows Day!

OOC: What corrections did you make? Yeah, I also knew that Acturo isn't a real spanish name, but I figured it was just a name that arose in that time line.

OOC: For example, it is written "Canal", not "Chanal", the latter would be a very bad mistranslation/Spanglish word. Other thing would be the "Himno Nacional de Guatemala", using the "del" is improver when it is referred to a nation unless the article is actually a part of the name of the nation (El Salvador).

Any doubt you have about Spanish, you may ask me, after all, who knows Spanish better than a Spaniard?

OOC: please do that by pm. It takes us off topic and I know I would find it more polite to correct in private by pm.

We regret to inform you that we will not be able to accept any refugees from your conflict at this present time. While you have our deepest sympathies and hopes for an adequate resolution, our nation is ill-equipped compared to other nations at providing aid and shelter to any of your citizens.

With all regards,
Presidente Acturo Menso

The next person who says anything about refugees will cause total destruction and annihilation of the world.
