New Immigration Policy
kxnIh49.jpg

- Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis

The Prime Minister, Konstantinos Karamanlis, made an important announcement today, fulfilling a promise he made two years ago. Greece will adopt a new immigration policy which would make legal migration far easier and will also make it easier for migrants to get Greek citizenship. This new policy aims to attract workers, scientists and businessmen from foreign countries to Greece. Economists argue that this pro-migration policy will have very positive long term effects and will fuel economic growth. The Prime Minister said: "Our new policy is one that will allow decent, hardworking people to come to our country. Those people will set up new businesses, create new jobs, improve the economy. This means that Greeks will be benefited immensely. Greece is nation that for centuries has traditionally been welcome to foreigners. We will uphold this tradition." Greek corporations are supportive of this policy while public opinion is mostly positive.

1950 Olympic Games in Athens
e133Ww5.jpg

The Olympic Games were born in ancient Greece and now Athens hosts the 1950 Olympic Games. The most important athletic event of the world is expected to bring thousands of tourists to the Greek capital, as people will want to witness the sport events. Except for the economic effects of the event, the Olympic Games will also lead to cultural exchange and will be a step towards the brotherhood of all nations and world peace. Teams from foreign countries are already arriving to Athens and the games will soon begin. Whatever the results are and whichever country gets the most medals, Greek Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis hopes that everyone will enjoy the games and that international cooperation will be fostered. "The spirit of the Olympic Game is needed now more than ever.", he said. "The Olympic Games are not just about sports. They are about international cooperation, peaceful coexistence, cultural exchanges and a strive to become better. We need such ideals in our world. We need those ideals in order to ensure that there is peace and that all nations can come together for the greater good of mankind. I am proud that Athens will host the 1950 Olympic Games and I welcome the teams of all the world's countries to our great city!"

So how large of an armada would you like to strong arm you into joining the rest of the world?
It'd presumably take a very large armada to destroy Japan's amazing standard of living and bring it back to the early feudal era you seem to be living in. Frankly, it's amazing you figured out how to send a message this degenerate across the entirety of Asia in the blink of an eye.

you are Free Russia, bair.

I've gone back and edited the ruleset post some - one, Projects, which somehow got accidentally dropped; and two, some parts of the military section that didn't copy over for some reason.

Also, since I have been asked this before, no, there is no United Nations or any such organisation. You are free to create one of course, but as of right now, none exists.

Canton to Xiang and Gan

We will wish to confirm our desire to witness the continued existence of our defence against our many enemies. Should we not conduct a conference to debate our co-operation against hostility?

'Superheroas' comics craze in Greece
tK5L4Ar.jpg

- Superheroas

After Donald Papias, a new comics craze has began in Greece with the 'Superheroas' (Σουπερήρωας meaning Super Hero) comic series, created by sketch writer Christos Diakonos. Nikos Hatzichristos is a reporter of the Kathemerini (meaning Daily in Greek) but in secret he is also a superhero with superhuman abilities who beats the crap out of villains and protects the rights and lives of decent citizens of Athens. Nikos is a shy and hardoworking reporter reportedly from a small village in Thessaly but in reality he is descended from planet Jupiter and thus he has abilities such as laser beams coming out of his eyes, superhuman strength and the ability to fly. The 'Superheroas' comic is very popular in Greece and reportedly there is interest in adapting it to the big screen.

OOC: ITL superheroes are from the 20s, and we're in the 50s, right?

Moloch by Ulysses Anand, published by Fuerte Matanzas

"Embers and nuclear ruins all glow with the same dead grey heat. Not that you can tell them apart from over twenty thousand feet high and wearing conpletely black goggles. It can still burn your retina. We couldn't look behind us, at any rate. Just knowing the fires of Hell galloped toward us, the gaping maw of Moloch unleashed by our own hands sufficed to throw us into a trance. This was the unspoken, unseen agreement that we would never look back behind us, where we reduced a city and its people to the same embers they used to heat with. How could anyone tell them apart? Not even we with our automatic machines could be so precise to tell this fleck of charred skin is somewhat different to that and this is all there is to be found of Aleksander Ilich Ulyanov and that is all that remains of Svetlana Nikolayevna Leontieva."

So reads the very first paragraph of Moloch,a chilling and fantastic novel about nuclear devastation and the nature of humanity. Not unlike the pulp novels that were Anand's youthful currency, time and space bend to his pen. Unlike them, however, the pages of Moloch are imbued with a hopeless sense of reality. There is a shadow of inevitability that linger behind every other word, and the rest are tinged with madness, a madness so supreme it could only be true. For the first time, perhaps ever, we see the author become a character, and eventually take on the role of narrator from the protagonist himself, in a turn that both highlights the literary artifice as well as the irreal quality that reality likes to take sometimes. His prose remains clear, but after the war he has fought in, Mr Anand's words seem to take on a life of their own, and that is only too welcome in literature today. There is too much to be said and too little space here to talk about it. In the end, the best possible statement to be made about the book is itself. Go read it.

Absolutely brilliant. 5/5

Changes in Policy with Regards to the Black and Colored Populace in the Nation of South Africa
  1. It has been established that there is a lack of opportunity for the Black and Colored population in the educational sector, and that this hole will be filled by the Gekleurde Beroepsopleiding-skema (Gebesk). Gebesk will be in charge of the creation of vocational universities, so as to improve the lot of those who may not have had such chances.
  2. It has been decided that a reform of citizenship law is necessitated by a changing world. Thus, the Voortrekker Party has hereby decided to institute several separate citizenry statuses:
  • The Status of Aansoeker (Applicant), wherein the Owner has a Visa and Permission of Labour within the State. No further services may be applied to an Applicant.
  • The Status of Inwoner (Resident), applied to those who are born within the State or those who have resided within the State for five Years or longer. Services are provided for the Resident, but he may not vote and may be under increased amounts of Scrutiny.
  • The Status of Burger (Citizen), applied to those who fulfill the requirements of Resident and do not otherwise fail to meet Voting Legislation. Burgers are afforded Services, the Ability to Travel, and the Right to Vote.
Any of these Statuses may be revoked at any time by the Government of South Africa should she see fit to do so.
The Government of South Africa stresses that there will be no reform of the current voter enrollment system, and that certain electoral rolls will remain suspended until the Kaapaggressie has been rectified.

Italian Confederation mobilizes Olympic Team

1948_ITALIAA.jpg

With the 1950s Olympics just around the corner, the Italians have seen fit to present their team to participate in the games. Personally handpicked by an Italian sporting committee among the very elite of the nation's athletes, these men now drill day and night in preparation for Athens. Whether they'll strike gold and return home as heroes is anyone's guess, but foreign minister Giuseppe Pella has stated that the committee is putting everything it has into making their team the very representation of great Italian sportsmanship.

King Umberto II holds 46th birthday in Firenze

Umberto_II_of_Italy.jpg

Rather than hosting his day of birth within the walls of the royal palace of casert, the monarch of Italy has decided to spend it at his villa in Florence. Among the guests were his wife the queen, his two daughters, foreign minister Giuseppe Pella, Enzo Anselmo Ferrari and other members of the nation's social elite and family. With fireworks, a fifteen-story cake and music, the king is sure to have a swell time.

Sure I'll tell the free wage laborers who may quit there jobs and move across the nation wherever they so wish that there freedom is a lie and that they've forgotten to pay their tithes to their lords. I'm not surprised at your ignorance though. Japanese schools are too busy selling propaganda to provide their people with a decent education.

Royal Siamese Goverment announces large economic programm

The Royal Siamese Goverment has announced a new economic programm, including large investments into infrastructure, education and the military.
The Prime ministers plan includes constructing rodes and schools in northern Siam, which is still largely lacking behind infrastructure and education. An improvement campaign for the military is supposed to allow the small domestic arms industry to grow, which should help the kingdoms industy as a whole.
Additionaly a anti-corruption campaign and additional legislation shall allow for further investment and growth in the siamese economy.
The military and conservative are praising the goverment efforts, while the socialist demand further social reforms and investemnts into public health.

15-years crown anniversary

Today King Rama VIII, born Ananda Mahidol, celebrates his 15th anniversary as Siams king. Crowned as a ten year old boy, Ananda showed great interest and passion for the rural and poor people of his kingdom. While his powers as the head of state are limited, he is widely popular with in the population and acts a mediator and symbol of national unity. He is famous for the "Siam Education Fund", which is administrated by his brother, which allows poor, but promising young siamese students to get a college education. Many foreign dignitarys are expected for the large celebrations in Bangkok.

Lao autonomy talks

Another round of talks has started between the Royal Siamese Goverment and the local Lao dignitarys. The goverment has given positive signs that would grant several rights to not only the people of Lao but all other minorities, too.
The king was quoted as followed: "The language of Siam is Thai. But this does not mean that it is its only language. The Lao people, the Khmer, the Malayans, they all have a right to there language and culture and we will respect it."

To clarify some things I've been asked multiple times: each turn covers 1 year, and the coming first update covers 1 January through 31 December 1950. So anything that says 1950 (elections, whatever else) will happen in the first update. The turn after that is 1951, the third turn is 1952, etc.

My I take Zudafrika?

EDIT - my mistake, I see it's taken.
