  • Thanks for everyone's patience through the long slog of the pre-game. The game now begins!

  • Oh, well. One cannot stop the march of time and politics. Is our young nation doomed from the start, or can President Ceskari guide our early years with a well crafted executive order?

Alright, joining the forum so I can play this.

As a person I support the dynamics of multiparty rule, and I will thus join any reasonable party which I can put over the threshold to become the 3rd major party (here's looking at you, Gentleman's Cricket Party...). But for now I shall remain unaffiliated.

I also fully support getting these deadbeats out of government for sitting around and leaving our country devoid of leadership over the last Congressional session! We get enough of that in real life...

Speaking of multiparty rule, it doesn't seem like there are any rules accommodating coalition government, or multiple parties banding together as one to reach certain thresholds of power or back a single candidate. For instance, it looks like the only way for smaller, like-minded parties to reach major-party status is for them to formally combine into a single party, losing their individual identities.

Is this intentional, or would the Supreme Court allow such cooperation?

President Ceskari was so much looking forward to the bills to come in for signing. He was sitting in the White House, in his Oblong Office, sharpening his quills. A messenger came by, by and by, telling him that the congress has "Gone Fishin'".

He was deeply disappointed and started thinking that maybe another style of government would suit this country better, at this early stage. But, if only one executive order is allowed then this be it:

The Settling Party (I am not talking of political parties here at all) to move down the Potomac river, southeast two hexes, cross the river, and there found a city.

The grounds for this action should be obvious. If we are moving in "4-session cycles" it seems like there is no opportunity to have an effect on what we might find once the settlers see beyond the current horizon. The only resource I see is then at hand anyway.

We therefore march to forward the realm of the Nation and the Party!

Our workers should not sit idle! The inactivity and complacency of our elected officials has sapped all motivation from the working class...especially ironic under the leadership of a President who purports to support the proletariat.

With the two actions we have available this turn (one proposal from our Senator and one executive order), we must start production on something in Washington and develop the Spices within our borders. (Choosing a tech is not as high a priority, since they're going to take forever at this point anyway.) Leaders, your populace -- well, at least one of them -- demands it!

I hear the venerable GreyWithAnE. The decision was one or the other. I felt we needed to move the settler more urgently than to raise the Working Class. Let them have a peaceful time of Fall Festival and the toil of improving the society will come later.

For the next Congress, I urge all Communist members to sharpen up their campaign machine to get elected. The failure of the 1st Congress proves that the other "parites" are just there for the inauguration cocktails and, whatever their party agenda says, they seem to let the country languish in inaction.

By the Constitution of the Nation, I can only do so much, and this I have done without fail.

I will join and form the America's Fist Party!

Our stance is radically pro-Military (obviously) and pro-Expansionist. We agree with the Communist Party on the Economy as well as that Congress has done nothing to help the American people. The US must expand freedom and equality to the peoples of the world. We will see the ascension of the US to world stage in every way. Let us go forth and create a great empire.

Welcome aboard!

There is nothing to stop minor parties from informally agreeing to back a single candidate. If you want the formal benefits of being a major party, you have to formally become a single major party - at least under current rules. I'm open to idea of minor parties forming an official coalition that allows them to reach the major party threshold, but its going to require some additional laws to define how such a coalition can be formed. So your first step is to get into congress and be able to propose such a law. ;)

Admin Note - I'll be traveling all next week, leaving Sat morning. It is my intention to get the update posted Friday night. In the event that I'm unable to, you may not see anything until the following weekend - depending if I have any internet access while away.

So your first step is to get into congress and be able to propose such a law. ;)

Very well then. I hereby announce my residency in the new city to be founded across the river (which should be New York, assuming I have my default names straight), as well as my candidacy for its Senate seat. Chief Justice, will this election take place immediately upon city founding, or will it wait until the next round of elections from the capital? I couldn't find a ruling for this in the OP.

If there will be an election, my sole campaign promise so far is thus: I will take action in every congressional session, and respect the democratic process as outlined in our Constitution and all laws passed by Congress.

I will also remain unaligned, although I can't say I disagree much with that America's Fist racket (going for Domination would probably be the most fun victory condition in this format). I hereby publicly invite Sparthage to run for the single New York House seat and endorse him as a candidate for the seat.

I see that sending the settling party over is activating the People. It is good that the People have a sense of political responsibility. Currently, it however seems to reside in the Communist party. I invite any and all to join the Cause, and the Communist Party of America! We will achieve World Peace, through the use of force if necessary. (Who says we are not for the Domination of America on Earth? I have alluded to that goal from the start!)

I propose a coalition between the gentlemans club and the AFP.

Unfortunately it appears that several personages of import have been afflicted by a strange disease called RL syndrome, which would make it most beneficial for both parties to unite under the banner of civility ,conservatism and bringing true civilisation (tea and cricket included) to the barbarian nations of this word for the greater good of America.

Well, me and chgrogers will have to have a bit of a chat first but personally I think it's a spiffing plan and would be jolly glad to work with you. Do the AFP have any good spin bowlers? Ours has had to retire for a bit, took a fast ball on lbw during a practice game last week, poor chap can barely bend his knee.

I propose a coalition between the gentlemans club and the AFP.
I assume you're talking about the America First Party, not the America's Fist Party. I guess my acronym will be AmFist to avoid further confusion.

I will be reisding in New York upon its founding. I will also be running for its House Seat.

the America First Party first used the acronym and we have the patent to its use. So indeed I am referring to the America First Party.
