A Suggestion

As you could probably tell, I am very against the merge of OT. However, there is still a minority who likes the separation between serious and casual. That's fine, but it's reduced OT traffic. My solution is this:

Merge the Tavern and the other Colosseum threads.

There are a lot of great thread in the A&E forum, although sadly no one ever switches forums to check them out. Honestly, how different are the threads there? Even DYOS could find a place here along with the other serial threads. And if the Tavern is supposed to have a light-hearted nature, the Humor threads would be great- possibly a thread icon to imply that they are Humor. As for the Science threads, they could go in the Chamber, due to its more serious nature. These threads would have a science icon to indicate that they are science-related. History threads would also go here.

It would be hard, but I think it would increase both traffic and thread attention and leave the split supporters happy.

Not so much because of altered standards of moderation - I think it's clear that those don't actually exist - but because I'd frankly rather not associate some of the history threads with the swine here. Keep them separate.

I do support re-merging the Chamber Pot with the rest of OT, though.

I still think that we need a subform specifically for discussions revolving around american politics. Aside from that, I like the divisions we have now, except for the tavern/chamber thing.

Ooooh Mr. History Bigshot, being all wise and stuff, bringing forth the anger of the ancients with his historical knowledges oooooh! I agree history needs to be kept separate, but A&E/S&T need to go back into the melting pot.

Oh, look. Some yearling has wandered through OT for a few months and now thinks he's divined the solution to all our problems. I'm glad to at least see someone has already done their good deed for the day and humored him by pretending this exact idea hasn't been brought up and discarded at least once a month.

Just kidding, Save . But you see, that's the kind of douchiness that I wouldn't get away with w/o the forum split. And the problem with your idea is that it won't necessarily increase traffic at all. Many of the forum-specific threads might not be allowed in regular OT; I sure don't want to see MLB 2012 and football threads polluting the top of the thread list. And it probably wouldn't increase the type of threads you normally see in OT; I'd say most of the people who post in the other Colosseum subforums also visit OT :/.

I think we should merge everything, even the Civilization forums, into one big forum. Then we'll always see all the topics all the time.

Alternately, we split everything up into a separate forum. And when I say everything, I mean everything. This topic would get it's own forum.

This is clearly the most correct. I also think a half-way measure that kept the Chamber/Tavern split (with maybe some changes from their current status and roles) but merged a lot of the rest in could be stomached. The general recombining of the Chamber/Tavern would be good regardless of what other recommendations it occurs with.

A&E never should have been split off and the distinctions between that forum and OT are pretty much disregarded anyway. The latter part applies to S&T, which is older but has pretty much died as a subforum and could do with merging back. Sports clearly has its own reasons for remaining separate, History and the rest of the smaller subforums as well.
