A tale of woe; a Newb's daily journal

I am enjoying this thread, though it must be hard to only allow yourself one turn per day. I noticed that the hill you built a road to doesn't have any resources on it so nothing is being brought along the road. You will need a mine to maximize shield and commerce production regardless of the road. Looking forward to future updates. :)

And.....there's absolutely nothing to report, but I said I'd make one posting of my results per day so....here it is. :D

Yes I realize this first week will be excrutiatingly slow but think of it as a tension builder for things to come. ;)

I wish I had the necessary talent to make an entertaining story from this game, but sadly I lack the imagination (and the time) to do so.

can't stand SUSPENCE!!!!

Only one day left before I get my first warrior. I'm eagerly waiting for my first chance to actually look around for a change. From past experience polar starts are usually not for the best and I fear that my civilization may be isolated on an island. Much too early to tell yet, I just have that feeling.

In response from that earlier posting; yes, there's nothing on that hill. I'm merely trying to increase the commerce and production of that tile. I intend to build a mine once the road is completed. I would prefer to mine hills and keep grasslands reserved for irrigation where possible.

i urge you to play more than one turn a day. this is going to take a long time and intrest will be lost eventually.

Hmm....let me think on this........no.

Ok. Let me be perfectly bluntly honest; I realize that this project won't be enjoyed by everyone. In fact there may be only a few masochistic souls out there that will find enjoyment from my daily updates.

This is a project I would like to do for my own satisfaction, I sincerely hope there will be some out there that will appreciate it for what it is, but even if NOBODY reads it I'll STILL continue on course. For those of you that do NOT enjoy this format; please just stop reading this thread. There are many more threads on this forum that I'm sure you will find much more to your taste, written by authors far more talented than myself.

Ok, don't get upset. I'm going to go on reading your thread, even if it has only one update every day. It's not so bad. But let me ask you a question. How do you do to resist the temptation of playing one more turn? I have the "one more turn" disease, so i can't undestand how you do it. :)

I want concistiency. The other guys post 5 updates one day but no more for a week. Go badplayer

I apologize if my response sounded a bit defensive. I'm not upset at anyone, just determined. :king:

Believe me, Civ has definitely given me the "one more turn" disease too. But that's why I'll play other games for fun and practice while keeping this one game reserved for this purpose. Yes, I want to find out what happens next just as much as the next guy but that's why it's important to me to keep the course. It's an excersize in patience for me.

Personally, one thing I've found about the 'gotta do one more turn' syndrome is that after an hour or two I start to get sloppy. I'll begin to let things slide even as I plow forward. This is something I'm looking to avoid with this game. I want every move to be carefully considered so that when it's over I'll know I played my best.

Playing one turn at a time is a great idea. Everyone whould try it, if only to test their sanity. :twitch:

Hey BadPlayer - you go for it! Now, don't mind me if i only check in every month or so ;)

Best of luck! By the way, did you want people to make 'helpful' hints?

Yay! My first warrior is complete. I already have him exploring those wild looking woodlands to my east as you can see in the screenshot below. I'm hesitant to let him get too far away until a second warrior is ready to garrison my capital (barbarians are raging). But there's plenty he can discover close to home. :)

And yes, helpful comments and suggestions about the game are always welcome, just don't expect me to be smart enough to adopt them. :crazyeye:

Yes, I'm afraid it's not the most encouraging start up I've ever had. I'm near a polar cap, no river in sight and so far the land looks suspiciously island like. If I'm stuck on a small island this will make this game a bit harder to play. But once you start something I believe you should stay with it what-may-come.

Start isn't that bad.
Just get the coastline filled up with cities and go overseas :)
ps: one turn a day gets boring after a while, people like to read through a story sometimes.
I understand you stick with it, i'll be following this to the end ;)

Yeah, me too. I'll try to play a one turn a day game, just for the "force of will" test. We'll see what comes out of it.

Hey I like the idea of a turn a day.
Since you are looking for a bit of kibbitsing... IMO dont wast time on that hill so early in the game. Mine that bonus grassland you roaded and road out to that game tile you will soon get. Get ready to chop and irrigate it. That will improve your expantion to no end.

Yep, that's what I would have done, not gone for the hill ... far too long & better things to do with workers.

Also, no so bad, isn't that fresh water lake? You can irrigate off that if need be. The start of Civ is always, expand like mad and grow pop like there is no tomorrow ... well, my $0.02.

See you next month ;) hehehe
