AbNESIV: The Rood and the Dragon

Became... it is 500AD now.. you sure your not looking at 600, or 700AD?

Bernicia was an Anglo-Saxon kingdom established by Anglian settlers

The Angles is a modern English word for a Germanic-speaking people who took their name from the cultural ancestral region of Angeln, a modern district located in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

You may yet get christianised in a few hundred years, but for now you are barbarian invaders!

Poo to you! but ok.. right, best look though the diplo for you...

We find it good and right to form mutually beneficial agreements with our Christian brothers in this pagan land. Our offers are as follows.

Firstly, the exchange of formal and permanent diplomats, to reside in our respective courts and facilitate communication between our kingdoms.

Secondly, the creation, maintenance, and protection of proper routes upon which trade can travel between our capitals.

Thirdly, a guarantee of aid should any of us be attacked or harassed by the pagans of this land.

We hope that you can agree to all three of our offers, and that we shall become closer still in the future.

We find the first two offers acceptable, but as of now cannot agree to the third, as we do not have extra troops to spare to defend anyone else but ourselves. Please do not take this as an offense, we merely cannot agree to the third offer now, but we are still open to it at a later date.

Sincerely,
King Rhyddfedd Frych

Your acceptance of our offers is right and good. We look forward to the arrival of your ambassador and, at a later date, the flow of goods between our capital and your own.

OOC: How much of a hold does the Papacy and the Catholic church in general have on the Christian kingdoms in Britannia? I looked and could not find much, if anything, on the subject for this time period.

OOC: There is very little/no contact.. IIRC, "Saints" start arriving from both Ireland and the Continent in ~50 years to reconvert.

Since Rome withdrew, Britain is pretty much left alone to its own devices for a good while.

[Adrogans] Bernicia became Christian, as all the Saxons did, but it didn't start off that way.

[Fuschia] The Anglo-Saxon kingdoms were effectively Catholic after the Synod of Whitby in AD 664, which decided to follow Roman customs rather than Irish ones. The synod only directly influenced the Northumbrian church, but it was important for the whole of England. The southern kingdoms were already more influenced by the Catholics than by the Celts, of course.

We wish to extend to you a trading proposal. With this we will begin free trade across our border and across the sea.

Thankyou Plot for your repeated help. I hope you continue to pop in, but please don't get too upset if things begin to deviate!

We are unsure whether our messenger made it to you or fell prey to misfortune on the road (you didn't respond to my post this is just to double check) but we accept your proposal fully on the first two points and also on the third if we have troops to spare.
