Action Chatroom Development Thread

You may want to update the OP, there's been a plethora of new arrivals.

Anyway, I'm planning a new AC of my own. The gist is fleet battles in space, with a slightly greater focus on storytelling than expected. I'll post more content as I complete it.

Proposal: Dark Oaths:

Funny, how simple things were back then. So funny.

It was twenty years ago. Two mages, Nolar and Elvar, The White and the Black, set sail upon the mystical flying ship Golden Morning with twelve guards - one born during each astrological phase of the year. They made for the Heart Island, home of the World Tree, center of all magic in Arpin'thre. Their purpose is lost - but many suspect a desire to transcend this world and become gods. They marched ashore, arranged in a circle around the World Tree, and began the incantations - they sought to drain the power of the tree into themselves, to fulfill whatever was their purpose.

No one knows what happens - but we can guess.

There must have been a nature spirit embedded in the World Tree - something sentient, but formless, which gave it life - perhaps even thought. When the incantation took effect, it must have backfired - all this energy poured into the Tree, and as the Tree was not suited to receive all this power, it was shunted into the spirit, which was thrown to a higher level of existence - the level of Men. It went mad.

Seven expeditions set out after Nolar and Elvar - but none found them. There was despair. The King of America lost his faith, too, and succumbed to death after three hundred years - leaving no heir. Soon thereafter, his mystical sword Constitution disappeared into the mists of shadow.

Then the menace came - an army of a hundred wraiths, tortured souls perhaps of the original searchers, or nature spirits that had been forcibly replicated into copies of their new master - the Nameless One, the Dark Lord, the World Tree Spirit. Now we understood why hundreds of thousands of orcs, goblins, trolls, dragons and all other manner of dark creatures had been moving south - together with corrupted men, they formed a massive army at the Dark Lord's beck and call.

Thus began the Fate-War. For twenty years now it has raged - my entire life. Greece now bears the brunt of the Dark Lord's assault - a far cry from my homeland in Onondaga. But elves have marched to the aid of men, while the shattered city-states that were once America have forsworn their alliances with each other. They have no King, after all.

But there is hope. The Master of Darkness is not invincible. It was written that upon these dark hours, the Heir of King Washington will return, will find the legendary Constitution, will reunite America and lead it to war. The Dark Lord will bring the brunt of his war machine to bear in one final battle, after much trial and death, and it is there that his nemesis will defeat him, with the aid of her companions and allies.

I am the Nemesis - the Chosen One. And I don't think I can do this, friends or no friends.

~ Melissa Arthrode.

I'm interested, to say the least. :p

Also, I'm almost done with my own intro story. Working title is Casus Belli.

Alright, some ideas (all are working titles, don't worry about them):

Fanning the Flames:
For those of you who have played or seen the Into the Fire IOT, this is the prequel.
Set in the early days of the Terran Revolution (2013), players control an individual member of the Revolution through its tumultous beginning.
I'm not certain if the Ahuizotl will show or not, but they will be player-controllable after their appearance, if I do include them.
The Pah and Maáskab will not appear in this game.
For canon reasons, some characters (higher-level Terran leadership) cannot be killed. No matter how hard you try.
Given the timeframe, equipment is more or less modern, in terms of technology, though not necessarily common today.

The Shadows of Tenochtitlan:
The year is 1519. Hernán Cortés has just landed an illegal expedition on the Yucatan Peninsula, in seek of glory and fame. Across the Gulf of Mexico, the Spanish government in Cuba is preparing an army for his arrest. Inland, vast empires are plotting his demise. Only time will tell who survives...
As indicated by the intro, this one is about Cortés's expedition, which, IRL, resulted in the conquest of several indigenous nations, most famously the Aztecs. A close attention to detail is given to the actual events of that war, not the romanticized myth (contrary to popular belief, the natives did not mistake the Spaniards for gods, nor did they grovel in awe of their weapons. Likewise, Spain didn't slaughter everyone they met.).
Players will be able to join as a member of Cortés's expedition, Narvaez's arresting force, or one of several native states, with not all missions involving all factions. Equipment available will vary upon the faction chosen, with attention to historical plausability. Diplomatic relations of the time will be matched as closely as possible. Players will not be allowed to select characters with a particularly high degree of historical significance (Montezuma, Narvaez, etc.), though interaction can occur, and may lead to some unexpected results (I.E., What if Narvaez ended up in the wrong part of Mexico?).
May include a map showing political extants of varying nations.

Also, there is a less fleshed out idea, which would be set approximately 20-30 years in the future. Main catch here is a lot of ambiguity as to whether or not you are the "good guys".
If RL weapons are neither destructive nor subtle enough for you, this is the route to go.

Also, these will tend to be a lot more dark and realistic. Not to say there won't be humor (humor keeps these things going, after all), but there will be a clear slant towards action/dire straits of characters. As a result of this, players would, of course, be free to sign up again, after their character's death.

Casus Belli

During their long and seemingly endless existence, the Mejani had never known defeat. Fueled by a warrior's spirit, they cut across the galaxy like a blade, conquering all they saw. People resisted, but in vain. The Mejani knew no mercy, and those whom the Mejani could not convert were destroyed, their planets and homes made barren. The proud Mejani Empire seemed destined to rule until the end of time.

Then they came.

Their appearance was unassuming at best. The newcomers had fled from a homeland consumed by an expanding star, and sought refuge in lands the Mejani considered their own. The Mejani agreed to let them find a home, so long as they pledged allegiance to the Mejani Empire. Naturally, spurned on by a strange sense of independence that had overcome many of the Mejani's victims, they refused to submit. Unconcerned, the Mejani sent the Great Fleet to stamp out the newcomers.

It became the first and most devastating defeat the Mejani had ever known.

The newcomers were never expected to put up such a fight. Despite being outnumbered, the Humans fought with a fire that surprised even the Mejani. Their fire, matched with the surprising capabilities of their own warships, proved too much for the Mejani to handle. Cutting a path through the stars, they came upon and seized the Mejani capitol planet, demanding an end to the war. The Mejani were furious, but seeing themselves with no other options, they surrendered. Forced into submission, the Mejani handed over a few prime worlds on the edge of the system and granted independence to a few of their own conquests, notably the Jatir planets, whose people had freed themselves from Mejani control after the utter defeat of the Great Fleet, and the Hajiim, a Mejani spiritual sect that suffered greatly for opposing the imperial ambitions of the Mejani.

With the omniscient power of the Mejani Empire broken, things changed quickly within the last century. The humans took the planet Promos as their capitol and established the New Dawn Confederacy, finding a new home at last. The Jatir came back from the brink of annihilation and, helped along by the humans, established the Jatir Federation, an economic powerhouse rivaling the old Empire. The Hajiim changed the least, remaining warm with their neighbors and peacefully living their lives in the harmony that their fathers never had. The Mejani, however, never forgot their defeat at the hands of the humans, and would jump at the chance to crush the upstart humans.

With two hundred years behind them, the New Dawn has lived in peace since the great conflict. Following the election of a new prime minister, however, the Confederacy has begun an expansion of its fleet to complete with not only the withdrawn Mejani Empire but with the Jatir and their other allies as well. With nearly unanimous approval for the Cabot-Tyler Act, the 3rd Dawn Fleet was commissioned for the purpose of service in the Confederacy, Jatir Federation, and nearby locations. Tasked with defending the heart of the known universe against whatever seeks to dethrone the New Dawn, the 3rd Fleet will join the ranks of the Confederate forces to defend against all who would seek their destruction as they have always done.

But things change in a hundred years, and old enemies wait in the shadows...

So long story short, you play as an officer commanding a Star-Wars-esque star ship in epic space battles (the resemblance to War in the Pacific was unintentional). Players will be able to choose among the handful of races I describe (or choose their own race) and create a unique back story that can be used for storytelling elements.

Alright, so, in this AC, players will take control of a member of the Spaniards under Hernán Cortés. (Note: Some holdovers in the rules may be leftovers of when multiple factions were planned, however, potential player response only indicated interest in one faction)

Within each of these factions, three classes will be available:
Nobles are the commanders. Besides having more sway with NPCs, they tend to get targeted more often, and have more money at game start. Spanish Nobles will recieve horses, native nobles recieve the highest level of native shielding for free.

Soldiers are the grunts of an army. They don't recieve any special benefits, nor do they get penalized for anything.

Missionaries are the support classes of the game. While relatively unarmed (they may carry knives), they act as diplomats, recieve an extra language at game start, and (for sake of gameplay) act as medics for their team.

Skills:
In this game, characters can have two types of skills:
Innate skills (which cannot be learned), and all others.. which can be.

Innate skills (Choose 1):
Charismatic
Physically Gifted
Mentally Gifted

Learnable skills (Choose 1 at game start, but more can be purchased later):
Extra Language
Sharpshooting
Archery
Seamanship
Swordsmanship
Unarmed Combat
Medical Skills

Weapons:
Weapons can only be purchased from your respective faction, but, assuming you have the skills, you may take and use (or, on occasion, purchase )the other side's weapons. Or sticks and rocks, even, if you so desire.

Native Weapons:

Tematlatl (sling)
Yaomitl (Bow made exclusively for war. Requires archery skill)
Atlatl (Spear-launcher)
Tlacalhuazcuahuitl (Blowgun)

Huitzauhqui (blade-studded club)
Macana (Closest European equivalent is a sword, but..)(Requires swordsmanship)
Tepoztopilli (Akin to a stave, but with blade-studded sides)
Macahuitl (Akin to Macanas, but with blade-studded sides. Requires swordsmanship).

Chimalli (Basic shield)
Ichcahuipilli (Sturdier shield. Provided for free to nobles).

Spanish Weapons:

Musket
Cannon
Pike
Sword (Requires swordsmanship)
Crossbow
Rapier (Requires swordsmanship)
Pistol
Halberd

All Spaniards are assumed to have steel armor.

Additionally, any side may take knives as backup, or take weapons from POWs, fallen soldiers, and random surroundings.

As a rule of thumb, bows are more accurate and faster, while guns tend to be more powerful.

Languages:
One of the major issues in this AC is the language barrier.
At game start, all Spaniards only know Spanish.
Being a missionary will add an extra language.
You can also gain skills for additional languages.
Note that NPC factions also exist, and they may not all speak a mutual language with your translators.

As with many (if not all) ACs, RNGs between 1 and 20 will be used, with modifiers based upon skill and armor. Some NPCs (the leaders of each faction) will also have modifiers (think of them as bosses, if you so wish).

Map:

Updated between missions, this map shows the cities each faction controls.
Red cities belong to the Aztecs.
Blue cities belong to the Cholulans.
Orange cities belong to the Chichimeca.
Yellow cities belong to the Tlaxcallans.
Green cities belong to Cortés.
Light Blue cities belong to Narvaez.
Light Green cities belong to the Totonac.
Purple cities belong to Maya factions.
Gray cities are minor NPCs.

The lines on the map are the RL route of Cortés

Spoiler :

Well, I've been throwing around my AC Idea for a bit now, and since most of it is somewhat worked out, I'm finally getting around to post it where we can all see it. :p

Ladies And Gentleman (and Americans); allow me to present:

The United Strike Force! (And if you can give me a better name I will take it :p)

The year is 2017. The Place is Europe. The slow collapse of the Currency, and the constant failure to turn around the various economic problems has lead to an inexorable spread of chaos throughout the continent. And it gets worse. Into this volatile mix is thrown the ever-present threat of International Terrorism, a number of fanatical ultranationalist groups seeking freedom from the EU, and the problems of properly integrating the newest member; Turkey.

But it is not these problems that you have been called together to face. It is an older problem, a problem that has troubled every nation sooner or later. Security. For Decades now, the collective security of Europe has been in the hands of NATO. For decades, much of it has been entrusted to the USA. But time changes things. No longer is America Europe's Benevolent Guardian angel, no longer is it the shining light against a communist blackness. The USA's goals are no longer shared so much with Europe, and so now we look elsewhere for Security. We look to ourselves.

This is the begining of a European Military. You are the first. Perhaps, if all goes well, you will not be the last...

In this SSD1 Ripoff brand new AC, run by a Complete n00b a largely untainted GM Dem Taqat, you will play as a ragtag band of misfits a brand new squad, composed of the nutjobs you will inevitabely play as the best Soldiers in the European Union!

And it will be fun. Or else. :trouble:

Players will choose 3 perks from the following list:

Sea Dog- Can sail ships and boats. Simple.
Badass- Runs on Rule of Cool. Gets bonuses to being melodramatic.
Made of Iron- Greater physical resistance. Can take more bullets.
Gifted- Hear the GM's voice in your head!* *Doesn't mean you are crazy.
Crack Shot- Better at shooting Crack! Bonuses to firearms.
Melee Master- More effective in close combat.
Charisma- More attractive and better at persuasion.
Guinea Pig- Occasionally granted Prototype weapons.
Heavy Weapons- Use moar Dakka! And bigger guns.
Medical Training- Slap on a bandage and kick more ass.
Hide and Seek- Better at hiding, sneaking, break ins, and break outs.
Computer Geek- You can use computers and other technology more effectively.

And then I will give you a choice of equipment based on your skills! You can make requests for weapons/equipment, and if I think they work with your skillset I will give you them as options.

As too languages:
Everybody gets English (Just to make it easy on me :p)
Everybody gets one of: French, Spanish, and German
And you can get any other languages you like as long as they are backstory justified! :D Because a chinese person being unable to speak chinese would just be silly.

[Anything else I've missed will be edited in around here once it is pointed out to me]

And that is the Euro AC.

Complete n00b GM :p

The Assassin Games

The legendary order of Assassins is always on the lookout for new talent, never more so than now. Their immortal enemies, the Illuminati, have usurped them as guardians and controllers of America. You see, ever since the american revolution, an assassin has always been linked to the current president. This honor is usually bestowed upon the head of the Order. Every couple of decades however, the Illuminati will appear from the shadows, not always noticed by the assassins, and begin to influence the leadership of america. This always led to some titanic struggle in America, and the assassins have always won; until now.

President Obama has been elected into office, but not linked to an assassin. No, he was linked to an Illuminati, and now the Assassin's Brotherhood is on the run. For the past 3 and a half years, the Illuminati, a mysterious enemy that only the head of the order knows the full truth about, has hunted the Assassins ruthlessly. There are only a handful left, and these handful have melted into the shadows to avoid being caught. Until now.

Now, the Assassins have struck a blow to the Illuminati, and the current head of the Assassins, Nick Eron, has personally eliminated the newest batch of Illuminati. The Masters, a council that exists to carry out the most important tasks for the Head of the Brotherhood, is now recruiting would be assassins into their ranks, and training those that show potential. You are one of those that has the chance to rise through the ranks during this war for survival.

Would anybody be interested in this sort of AC? Think Assassin's Creed, but with modifications to make it work in AC form. If not:

20,000 ships, Dead under the Sea

This is a slightly alt history WW2, which starts in January 1942. As to setting and Mechanics, it will be something like the first PacWar, but take place in the Atlantic Ocean and seas that split off from it like the North, the Med, and the caribbean. Essentially, Germany captures the French navy at port, completes its work on 3 of its own aircraft carriers and 2 additional battleships than historically done. The battle of britain has lasted far longer than it did in OTL, and still rages in the skies above Britain as America rushes its planes to her ally's aid. And Japan somehow found the industrial might to double the size of its fleet by this point in history through a combination of aliens (joke) better policies, more industrialization, and significantly reducing the air arm of the army to little more than 100 outdated planes, leaving air coverage up to the far more able navy. This results in Pearl Harbor being far worse than it ever was to us, and the missing aircraft carriers were found and destroyed.

But when Japan's 5 newest carriers base out of Spain, Germany sallies its surface fleet, Britain holds on tight, and America tries to find a way to build more carriers frantically, anything could happen out on the open seas.

This will be a primarily naval and air AC, with limited fighting on land (raids, island operations, etc.), in which all players will begin fresh as commanders out of the reserve navy of one of the great powers. I am not quite sure whether the players will be part of America, Britain, Germany, or Japan yet. Probably Britain or Germany, but that can be decided later on.

Would anybody be interested in either of these ideas being implemented in time?

That's a shame, hope to see you around some time in the future. :)

I'm also working on a new AC, as my Casus Belli looks a bit to extensive for a first timer like myself. If you like games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, you might like this. ;)

Have a backstory. No title yet.

“Warriors, hear my voice! A great challenge awaits you in Ordinem, my kingdom and my homeland! Your very lives will be wagered against beings from across existence to compete for a prize worthy of the greatest warrior of all! I, Vorauss, supreme ruler of Ordinem and master of life and death, will oversee a grand tournament, pitting warrior against warrior, in a battle to the bitter end. All who see themselves as worthy may come to my realm and seek the chance to prove their worth in front of all who have eyes to see. The rewards are great, as are the warriors who you must defeat to win them. Glory lies ahead for those strong enough to take it! Death awaits those who fall in battle! Let the tournament commence!”

Vorauss released the sphere of energy from his metal-clad hand, which floated towards his masked mage with an odd serenity. The reptilian humanoid took the sphere in his own hands and muttered the appropriate incantations. With a weak flash, the sphere vanished, off to deliver the message to destinations too numerous to count.

“How long?” Vorauss asked the servant.

“Three cycles should be sufficient,” the mage replied. “In five the tournament should be able to commence.”

“Good,”

Vorauss waved a hand at the door, which swung open at his beckoning. The mage took this as the sign to leave and bowed himself out. Vorauss now turned his attention to the mural on the wall, depicting all of existence. To a mortal, it depicted nonsense, but it was simple for Vorauss to comprehend. With a mere thought, the arcane marks shifted to create a new picture in his head, one of the future rather than the present. It did nothing to ease him.

“My love, you seem troubled,”

He knew that Moira was there, but he still found himself startled by her sudden arrival. She was never one to flaunt her gifted abilities, which was one of the many reasons he loved her. Placing a caring hand on his shoulder, she looked at the markings on the wall. Sharing some of her husband’s abilities, she was able to see the image as well. “It’s this again?” she said softly.

“The time draws close,” Vorauss said, as the shapes changed forms again. “The Sorrow comes sooner than I had anticipated.” He turned to look into her eyes.

“You suspect me?” Moira said, her voice patient but accusing.

“I fear that someday I might. It’s forced me to take risks.”

“Such as holding the tournament again? It’s been centuries, it’s all the guards could talk about.”

Vorauss privately reminded himself the reprimand these guards later. He turned away from the mural, which faded into the wall like smoke. In the distance, some winged creature called to announce the end of the cycle. The harsh call brought him no relief.

“I risk much holding it again,” Vorauss lamented. “I could very well bring about the very thing that we sought to destroy.”

“But you could also bring the One.”

Vorauss paused in thought. "That is all we have to hope for," he said with heavy finality.

...well, that's interesting. I'm reading The Bourne Deception and a character in it is named Moira. Anyways, I can't wait! :D

@LH- What?! Why? And can I commandeer Army Men?

Well, Seeing as there was some discussion in the DD Thread about revivng this, I figure I might as well post this here as well as the version over in Tani's forum. Whilst it has been decided that my next AC shall be 'Under the Mask', which is something in the style of LH old Saviors, I have 3 other ideas roaming around that people might want to take a look at.

The Other Ideas:

Idea 1: Brainwashed SEAL Zombies: Sometime in the near future something weird starts happening in Las Vegas: People are being infected with some sort of Black Liquid which seemingly causes them to simultaniously go violently crazy and start developing supernatural powers. When a number of intelligence agents and several SEAL squads go missing investigating the decision is made to have the army quarentine the area. You play as a group of [people in a group] who are investigating it. This idea is still in early stages, but was getting some pretty positive response on chat so I figured i'd bump it up the priority list.

Idea 2: Celestial War: Since before humans existed, Heaven and Hell have been held back from the mortal world by some power that nobody knows about (with the possible exception of God, but he isn't the talkative type). Now, 20 minutes into the future, that power has suddenly cut off, and Demonic hordes are starting to pass up through the mortal plane to attack Heaven. Obviously this sucks for all the mortals, so Good Compassionate Heaven has set up an angelic task force to find and restore the power that maintained the balence. Which is you. This is my most developed idea, and was actually finished just before I launched FtD.

Idea 3: USF2 The Russian Mafia: For those of you who remember the Moscow mission from USF, this will be expanding on the never-really-developed plot of that mission. As the Russian Mafia begins to seriously threaten international stability, the EU gathers together a team of experts under the newly resurected banner of the disbanded USF. Together your group of Bunny-Ears Lawyers is tasked with discovering the goal of the shady Mafia, and putting a stop to it once and for all. This idea is probably the least developed, since I haven't done ANYTHING for a ruleset.

Please note these are all working titles, and I am open to other name ideas.

DT
Thread Necromancer! :borg:

All three sound very good, maybe Celestial War would be convenient as you have already completed it, but I'd urge you to work on the USF2 as well ;)
