AK5, Rule of the idiots

If you still have a spot open, I'd like to join in the fun. I haven't played Germany since Vanilla C3. Somehow, I never had the patience for civs with a late UU :)

Preflight: MM the empire. Change some builds. Thinking strategic type thoughts. Monte has wines and dyes that we need. Inca have incense and wonders to take away. FP location? Turn Berlin into a settler pump and fill in the spaces. Need exploration of the unknown north. Pachacuti has no iron.

IT: Munich spear > spear. Heidelburg galley > worker.

360 nada

IT: Berlin settler > spear

370: nada

IT: resistance in Teo ends.

380: rush spear in Teo.

IT: Teo spear > rax. Hannover worker > worker. Bremen rax > harbor.

390: Found Dortmund & Brandenburg

Danz is up, Joe on deck. Get the Berlin pump up. Fill in the spaces. Prepare for the war of dyes and wines. We are allowed to buiild small wonders. Haven't decided on FP locale. Thoughts?

lurker's comment:

Finish off the Aztecs.

1.450: Upgrade some warriors, move the rest to be upgraded next turn.

2.460: Inca pay 5 gold for ROP. We need to hold our Inca border so we can clean up the Aztecs more safely.

470, 480: Nothing much, just moving our galley and sending troops to the Aztec border.

5.490: Anarcy is finally over. Chose Monarchy as our new government. We have 2 luxes, no infrastructure, and we're about to go to war. Doesn't sound like the time for a representative government. Cash rush a library in Stuttgart. We need a healthier border with the Inca, plus we can grab some whales.

500, 510, 520: Nothing much. Sailing around Inca lands, building some settlers and swords.

9.530: Build New Leipzig. Spear kills a barb that surprised a worker/settler pair.

10.540. We are in Monarchy, we have 1 new town and 3 settlers getting ready to build some more. Got several new workers and more on the way. No buildings built except one library. Peace with Aztecs expires in 1 turn. The galley is almost done exploring Inca land and can head out to a watery grave in a few turns.

@ danz - about that library. Barbaric variant - no building cultural improvements. We are not allowed to build anything that generates culture except small wonders. We are allowed to keep GW wonders when we capture them. No big deal, Joe will just have to sell the library. :)

Oh, shoot, I messed up. I saw that puny border and my first instrinct was to rush a library. At least it wasn't a temple, so I'll escape Bede's infamous temple rant this time :)

But this means we have to raze and replace everything. We can't keep those Aztec cities we're about to conquer.

Most of our army is on the Aztec border. With some lucky catapulting, you can probably take out the North plus one or two cities in the East before you run out of troops. But watch out for sneak attacks from the West. Newly produced units should probably stay and guard around the capital. I was trying to prepare for the war as much as possible (given that half of my turns were in anarchy...) so I neglected infra and defenses.

There are some settlers already on the way, and several of the more food-rich cities will riot unless they are kept down under size 6. So, I wouldn't worry about making Berlin a true settler pump. In fact, that would be more of a distraction than a benefit at this point. Why?

- One, it's not the only city that should be producing settlers. Other cities have more food and less production capacity. You can always short-rush in a corrupt, food-rich city, but you can't make up for the wasted production of an undersized capital. Berlin is the ONLY city with 10 spt potential! It's wasted on settler production.
- Two, it has a barracks, so it should also be cranking out swords in addition to any settlers/workers. We have lots of barracks, let's use them, let's not build any more in corrupt cities. They are just an income drain.
- Three, potential city cites are on the other side of the continent. There's no point in building a settler just to hike around the map for 8-10 turns (4-5 turns on roads and another 4-5 turns without roads). Other cities are much closer to the action, and they need to be kept down to size anyway.

Good points. Too bad I read them AFTER I played my turns :) Still didn't turn out too badly though....

Turn 1
-- Berlin Sword -> Spear in 2
-- Leipzig Settler -> Sword in 8
-- Nuermberg Worker -> Cat in 20
-- New Berlin Worker -> Barracks in 20
-- We are short defenders on our front line cities. Going to move some spears up to them before I declare on the Aztecs.

Turn 2
-- Not much

Turn 3
-- We got Feudalism from the GL.
-- Bremen Harbor -> Pike in 8.
-- New Hamburg formed. Worker in 10
-- New Konigsberg is formed. Barracks in 20.
-- Most of our army is in areas that dont have barracks, but I upgrade a few spears to pikes. I rush a barracks in Teot for 40 gold. Will move all swords there to upgrade.
-- Galley find the other continent. Red & dark red borders spotted.

Turn 4
-- Berlin Pike -> settler and growth in 3.
-- Teot Barracks -> cat in 20.
-- Salzburg Worker -> Barracks in 20.
-- Red is Maya. They are up Engineering and down Lit. Will wait to make contact with other border before worrying about trades.
-- Dark Red is Japanese.

Turn 5
-- We learn Engineering from GL.
-- Hannover Settler -> Barracks in 20.
-- Bonn Worker -> Barracks in 20
-- Japan knows Invention, and is down lit. They are poor, so I will go back to the Mayans.
-- Maya will give us all of their gold (237) for lit. I take it.
-- I go back to Japan and take their 12 gold for Lit (might as well get something for it).
-- Upgrading Cats to Trebs
-- Aztec culture is getting overwhelming. Will start war within next turn or two after upgrades are complete.

Turn 6
-- Munich Worker -> worker in 10. It's the only thing this city can build thanks to corruption.
-- Time for war.
-- 4/4 sword takes out 4/4 spear
-- 4/4 archers takes out 4/4 archer and promotes.
-- Main force heads toward Tlatelolco
-- 2 workers captured

Turn 7
-- Injured archer loses to Jag
-- Berlin Settler -> Pike in 4
-- Inca is building Knights Templar.
-- Raise lux to 20% and Salsburg still needs a taxman
-- Attack on Tlalmanalco
-- 4/4 sword defeats 4/4 Spear
-- 4/4 Archer defeats 3/3 spear and razes the city. Aztec Galley also destroyed.
-- I have Berlin Settler going to where Tlal was. Will get there in 4 turns.
-- 4/4 sword retreats Jag
-- New Frankfurt is created in Aztec Territory claiming the 2nd gems. Worker in 10.
-- 4/4 sword takes out 4/4 spear in Tlaxcala flawlessly

Turn 8
-- Konigsberg Settler -> MI in 14.
-- Cologne MI -> MI in 8.
-- Attack on Tlatelolco
-- Trebs go 4/4 redlining both spears
-- 5/5 Archer takes out 1 spear
-- 4/4 MI takes out other. City razed. Replacement settler on it's way.
-- 4/4 sword takes out archer
-- 4/4 Sword loses to archer and promotes it
-- 4/4 sword takes out Tlaxcala. Still full strength.

Turn 9
-- New Frankfurt was 1 HP away from defending against 2 archers. It didn't and was burned. They lost 1 archer in the process.
-- Teno Settler -> Barracks in 20.
-- Teayo Barracks -> Spear in 20.
-- New Leipzig Worker -> Trebuchet in 30
-- 4/4 MI takes out 4/4 archer but is redlined.
-- Stack moving against Tzintzuntzen. Will get there in 4 turns.
-- 4/4 sword defeats Jag.
-- 4/4 sword defeats 4/4 spear in Atzcapotzalco but is redlined.

Turn 10
-- Berlin Pike -> Settler in 4. MM'd so we'd grow in 1, hoping to grow again in 3.
-- Leipzig MI -> MI in 8.
-- Mayans build Sun Tzu
-- MI retreats Jag
-- MI takes out spear and captures settler (was going after wines).
-- 4/4 sword takes out 3/4 archer

Sorry if there are still troops on goto orders. I think I cancelled them all (I was playing single player this morning so I was in the habit).

Wine city settler is ready to deploy. I put him on the coast so we could put 1 more city in between if we wanted.

Southern city also ready to deploy.

Stack marching toward Tzinzuntzen. This is going to be a slow war because their cities are spread out.

I have 2 swords moving toward Tula to secure our NW corner.

There are a couple of settlers that I left for the next player to decide where to put them.

Japan knows invention, Inca knows Chivalry but is down Engineering. We might be able to pull off a 2 way swap to get Invention if you want to try.

Not bad at all. Should have revolted to Feudalism on turn 3 and sold the silly library I built in the South, however. Them's the rules...

got it. I'll start the revolt. Our goal is commie asap. otherwise we're stuck in Fuedalism. No problem with libraries as prebuilds. Just don't finish them.

Preflight: Trade Inca Engineering for Chiv and 34g. Revolt (8 turn anarchy)

IT: Inca finish KT in Cuzco. Toka building Leo's.

650: sell Maya Chiv for 17 gpt + 180g. Found New Frankfurt. Found New Munich.

660 kill enemies, get promotions.

IT: JW captures 3 slaves Renew RoP with Inca. learn Inv. via GL.

680: Found New Heidelburg.

690: Capture Tula, raze it. Capture Atz., raze it.

700: New Nuremburg founded. Meet Lincoln.

post 710 IT: Become fuedal.

720: rush spear in Teayo.

IT: Hamburg riots.

730: found New Cologne.

I'm in uncharted waters here. Never been fuedal before. IIRC, we have to worry about WW. I suggest we make peace with Maya for 20 and them wipe them out. Our forces are too spread out right now to consolidate any gains. Our goal is communism in IMHO. Wait 20, finish off Monte, then go for Inca. Trade possibilities stink for now, but we've got gold to spare for upgrades, etc.

IIRC, danz is up, joe in the hole.

Hopefully, our galley will discover the other civs soon, and we'll be able to resume our wheeling and dealing. GL took some of the fun out of that, but with our limited contacts and infra, it saves out butts too.

I agree on Commie ASAP, but in your original message, did you not say facism? "Therefore, we must change to fuedalism when we get it and then change to Fascism when we get it." So, can we change to it, then change to Commie once we get it?

See if you can get some cities in the peace deal with the Aztecs. It'll be less we have to take/settle later.

We only have to go facist if we learn it. If we learn it, we're there to the endgame. Commie is optional. If we get it and want to go there, fine. If we get it and don't want to go there, fine. In the true idiot spirit, we must have leaders who tell us what to do. Therefore we will never ever think for ourselves and go republic or democracy.

To quote RikMeleet:

:rotfl:

LMAO

WW is the least of your worries. No culture, no money, lots of corruption and waste. Oh, you do get more troops than you will know what to do with and you get all the food bonuses.

Here is a suggestion: In any town outside the first ring plan on using lots of specialists. It will keep the WW under control, you will get either revenue from tax collectors or learning from scientists. So water and road everything that's flat and don't even think about putting roads and mines in mountains.

But, if you can solve the Feudalism problems and make it to the IA, you will be the strongest dog on the porch.

Sounds like good advice to me! I've got it. Will fight on in the true idiot spirit.
