ALC Game 17: Russia/Peter

BtS purchased: check.
BtS installed: check.
Wife warned: check.
Favourite tactics and gambits nerfed: check. :aargh:
New ALC game thread: imminent.

Can't wait for this one. As I can't play BTS for months (got a good computer - Mac), I'll just have to live vicariously through you.

I also can't wait to see if (Axe Rush is Easy and Overwhelming) vs (Warring is Totally Different) turns out to be the case :)

Cheers.

Probably worth noting those with broadband do have the option to purchase BtS (and all Civ IV games) through the online distributor "Steam". Most handy in the case of scratched CD's, as all your games are virtual and regged to your name - i've got a dozen here that I haven't bought on CD.

Nice idea, but what happens if Steam runs out of money? I have several games from 90s, most of the companies who released them are in bankcruptcy nowadays (Microprose for example). That's why I rather have physical media in my closet, just in case... And how many mp3-sellers have already fallen?

I've purchased both Civ4 and Warlords through direct2drive. It is part of the fileplanet and ign, neither of which seem to be in any danger of going under at any time.

I have games with steam and D2D, personally I like D2D better because you download an install file which you then burn to a disc. Plus people sometimes have problems with steam going down and then them not being able to play games til it comes back up. It's normally a matter of starting it offline but some games don't give you that option. I think D2D is better in that respect, once you activate the game with the code then you never have to worry about it again.

Regarding Blake's quotes here I guess it would only be appropriate to play Peter's Revenge with Aggressive AI turned on, Mr Monster Stacks. ;)

Take it with a pinch of salt. The post did not his put the quote into the proper context in which he said it anyway.

If Steam goes bust on the back of Valves success of Half Life/Counterstrike plus big brands like CoD buying in i'll eat my hat. I will have to buy one first, but I will eat it - Valve the games company could go bust but Steam is here to stay.
