All leader portraits

Well they want all the leaders to have exaggerated proportions to make them more interesting, and to fit with the general art style of the game- Gilgamesh is basically the incredible hulk, so skinny Trajan was always likely.

In terms of presentation of leaders, I'm interested to see how they convey Peter's stature- he was 6 foot 8 (just over 2 metres tall), putting him head and shoulders above others. I presume that makes him the tallest Civ VI leader (excluding Gilgamesh- 16 feet tall apparently!).
Skinny Trajan was anything BUT likely. He was always portrayed as buff and with a rounded, slightly plump (but robust) face.

Well, except in the Ankara bust, which showed him as he appeared shortly before his death.

Buff? Not especially. He looks like he was in reasonable shape, but he is not especially brawny.

Maybe he was not particularly skinny, but neither was he brawny. He does not exactly look athletic and he does not look particularly heavily built, so a caricature of him would probably be expected to look skinny.

Actually, it's been in many news outlets in the last couple of weeks. Here's a sampling:

I'm not familiar with Caitlin Green's work, but I don't see her mentioned in any of these articles.

She is an Archeaologist with a blog and a prolific tweeter. The topic happens to be something she has been focusing on lately.

Many of the statues you showed appear to be of Trajan as a youth, or slightly older but not in his prime.

Most those don't particularly say anything about his physique- they are either just busts or he is wearing armour. I think you won't find anything very conclusive looking at pictures of statues of him. Besides, they perhaps would have been made good so as to flatter him/ honour him.

Besides statues, are there any written sources regarding his shape/size?

You cant really take body shapes into account from roman statues. They were made like a jigsaw and the heads were replaceable. When new emperors came along the old heads were removed and new ones added. In your pictures you can see the joints on the statues and you can clearly see that the body of the first picture doesn't match Trajans head.

Of course there is likely to be exaggeration, but nothing supports showing Trajan as skinny--he had flab flaps on his face even near death (see Ankara bust). Most busts (i.e. where the lower body hasn't been placed in ceremonial armor) still show him as very robust in the upper body. So we can take body shape into account on those areas.

For a while, I've been regretting and even considering if I could cancel my pre-order. Gorgo, Cleo, Medici, added only for the reason they are women. If Firaxis wants to add women, why not ones that did worthy things like in the case of Hatshepsut, Maria Theresa, Isabella, Catherine the Great. And why Gilgamesh, why not an actual person who 100% existed like Eannatum? Why the graphics choices?

Yeah, I don't play Monopoly anymore because the player pieces include a Scotty dog (I prefer cats) and a thimble (sewing is for women). Just knowing that they were choices completely ruined my opinion of the game.

I don't get it. How come you don't know why was Gilgamesh added, since you were apparently in Firaxis offices when they decided to put those unworthy women in? You were on vacation or what?

Come on, if you were to ask the average person, they wouldn't say they know Cleopatra's achievements, only that she was a woman and the last Egyptian ruler. Medici was never in control of France, barely did a thing compared to Napoleon, Charles de Gaulle, Charlemagne, and Louis XIV. Gorgo didn't do much either, her husband may have died in battle but, at least he did something to stop Persian invaders.
