This is so stupid. Ukraine and Russia are extremely similar, on the scale of thing, just as US ansd Canada are. there are nearly 200 countries in the world, of all of them, Ukraine is most like Russia. If Ukraine and Russia are so different then why do such a huge % of Ukranians speak Russia? Why do so many identify as Russians? why do so many vote for an overtly pro-Russian party? you are kidding yourself. they are not the same nation, but they are damn similar.
Canada - USA is not a good comparison, a better comparison would be Mexico and Brazil.
Russia imo is more like Ukraine then other countries in the world, but it doesn't mean they can't be far apart. Ukrainians are somewhat similar to Russians, but they aren't similar enough that you can mistake them for one (enless you aren't paying attention/don't know the differences).
a bunch of Ukrainians speak russian because of their history of the century, before that most Ukrainians spoke Polish! They Speak it because they were one country as Russia, it was much better for business to speak in Russian and a dozen of reasons.
Many identify themselves as Russians because either, they are Russian, or Russian Washed Ukrainian, and the rest in the east of Ukraine are pro-Russian, no doubt about that.
By Ukrainians i'm mostly talking about the True Ukrainians who live in Middle and Western Ukraine, those are the only ones i really have experience with, and those are the ones that vote pro-West rather then pro-Russia, they also (in my experience) Really hate Russians, much more then a stereotyped pole for example would.
Winner, think about it. There are 200 countries on Earth, and no more than one of them is more similar to Ukraine than Russia. Of course there are differences between Russia and Ukraine. Now name ones that have more similarities. OK, Belarus (but what I meant was that Russia and Ukraine were more similar than Ukraine and Belarus). Now, whos next? Who else shares more similarities with Ukraine than Russia and Belarus?
you would be dead right to say Ireland and UK are alm ost the same, we ARE almost the same. Who is more like Ireland than Scotland and Wales?
Well obviously, seeing as only 3 countries are Eastern Slavic, that Belarus and Ukraine share most in common with Russia.
Also you are wrong again. Ukraine (true Ukraine) is far away from both Belarus and Russia, the True Ukraine is much closer to Poland then Russia.
Stop twisting words, i remember very clearly the thread about the British Isles and how it is offensive to the irish, and Winner obviously meant England.

I read Eran's post after Posting this, let's stop arguing, perhaps a new thread would be in order? We haven't had a thread in a long time about Eastern-Central Europe, maybe we should have one now?
