2030 is a long time to wait. Though I suppose it makes sense, by then most of the baby boomers will all be dead, (thank Confucius for that, they're easily the worst generation ever) so we can finally move forward as a society.

It's the generation before them that's opposing it so greatly, and will be dead at that time. They'll be in their 70's-80's in 2030, some dead but still, in all likelyhood, mostly still alive for another decade or so.

the great lakes region could expand to cover all the areas around the great lakes.

...best guess: the crisis of the third century got really really bad.

...or it was just never righted, because the Third Century Crisis IRL was really, really bad.

... i am at a loss to explain what happened. maybe Constantine failed?

Why Constantine? It could just as easily have been Diocletian or Aurelian., more likely, I'd say.

Much later. The African Expedition of 468 succeeded, and the Western Roman Empire recaptured Africa. This had unfortunate political aftershocks in the Eastern Roman Empire, which collapsed into civil war in the 470s until finally expiring in 482.

sheesh, the eastern roman empire shouldn't be that unstable... the kingdom of the vandals died anyways.

It actually was that unstable. Read up on the careers of Leo I Thrax and Zeno. The Eastern Empire was very close to collapse for many of the same reasons the Western Empire was. All it really needed was a little push.

The idea was to get the Kingdom of the Vandals and Alans to die earlier, and in a fashion conducive to the survival of the Western Empire.

ah. right i need to study early eastern history more.

ok, so the vandals and the alans, whatever they are, are dead. it'll be interesting to know how they deal with the 2000 other tribes. the western Empire isnt that stable either.
