Man, I really have to brush up on my Oriental history.

Hmm, I've almost never seen a NES where Byzantium and Islam exist simultaneously. Pity. Though I've always wondered...if Islam never arose, Central Asia and Persia would be mainly Nestorian Christian, correct?

It's always proposed that Zoroastrianism makes a comeback, but the Nestorians had quite a promising future, before Islam. There were even 2 churches in Chang'an, I believe.

I believe that Zoroastrianism would have prevailed over Nestorianism; cool a name as the latter has, the former has a better one. And the historical probabilities on its side.

Watch more carefully, there has been a plenty of those. Although, most of the times the nearby Muslim states have to be weakened one way or another in order for Byzantium to survive as a notable power.

Definitely not Persia (Zoroastrianism was already entrenched there), maybe Central Asia. The Nestorian big chance was with the Mongols, but the only Nestorian Mongol khan was killed almost immediately after taking power...
