Hello everyone :hatsoff:

After the 3/4 UC for VP modmod had been released by the coders (thanks once again to all of them : what you did was truly great), I decided to make some sort of pause from all of this for some time, but, as always with me, ideas kept arriving, and here we are now. I've discussed a bit with some of the members of the 3/4 UC modmod, who told that my idea wasn't so absurd, and so I decided to begin a thread to recolt opinions and see if things could be done.

So, what is it all about ? Well, you've already read the title, but let me explain why I've come up with all of this. As you may know, I am one of these persons with a lot of ideas but few skills, and coding isn't among them... Because I saw the enormous amount of work realized by the 3/4 UC team, and I wanted to find a way to provide even more unique elements to VP without requiring too much from the brave souls who would accept to do the hard work (as my condition doesn't allow me to seriously engage myself in learning coding in the next years... as my previous tentative last year learned me) as much labour as for the 3/4 UC modmod (or at least I hope it won't).

So, if you are still curious about the project, here is an actual description : the goal of this project would be to add a whole bunch of alternative leaders for the VP civilizations.
These leaders would have the same unique components (+ the ones added thanks to the 3/4 UC modmod) as the ones currently possessed by the civilizations they will be assigned to, but new UAs, new personalities, and all the aesthetics which come with adding new leaders (leaderscreen, musics, city namelists for some, civilopedia articles, perharps new colors and/or civ icons).
These UAs and personalities would be meant to exploit synergies or aspects of a civilization that the current leaders don't explore, and so give new uses to the UCs VP has.
To sum it up : it would be like adding semi-new civilizations, not meant to replace the current ones but complement them by offering new ways to play.

I hope I have been clear in my explanations. Thank you for reading until this point. :)

Now, I'll show some examples, but before, I'll expose somes rules that have emerged while I was discussing with 3/4 UC team members :
- When possible, each new leader will retain a part of the UA of the original leader of that civilization (it won't be possible for the Ottomans, the Mayas, Poland or Indonesia for example)
- I try not to trespass on the territory of other modders working on adapting some civilizations to VP. Because of this, I've only worked on leaders that aren't currently (29/04/2018) available on this subforum (I wouldn't be against the use of any concept developed here for the making of a full-fledged civilization elsewhere).
- Of course, the names of all the creators whose works will be used for this project will have to be displayed. We can be a little "scavengy", but we are not thieves.

If you're interested in coding some of these UA or become a "designer" for some of the leaders, please contact me : as I said, my role here would be quite limited, but I can always thoroughly tests things for you if needed, and I like sharing ideas.

If nobody is interested or available for now (which I would be perfectly fine with), well, at least there will be ideas for other people to pick one day or another.

Have a good day ! :)

NB : Of course, the creators of all elements (leaderscreens, text etc) will be credited in a proper way (see the credit table, which is in an early stage, to know who is the creator of what).
This mod will work best when used with the True Alternative Leaders mod made by JFD. Here is a link.

After consultation, a first list of the first ten leaders who have both a stable concept and existing art assets has been established.

Spoiler 10 First New Leaders :

Babylon - Hammurabi - The 282 Laws
Japan - Mutsuhito - Meiji Reformation
Germany - Frederick I - Iron Crown
Sweden - Oscar II - Nothing Exceeds the Limits of the Stars
France - Louis XIV - The Sun King

=> These five seems to be the easiest to make (the arts are already present and the bonus aren't that complexe)
Poland - John III Sobieski - Fidei Defensor
Arabia - Umar - Al-Farooq
Ottomans - Mehmed II - Devshirme
America - Theodore Roosevelt - Bull-Moose Party
Denmark - Christian IV - Dominium Maris Baltici

=> The bonus are a bit more complex for these five, but the arts are already here

Plus, HungryForFood has already completed Victoria (once again, thank you for your hard work). :)

In RED are the leaders whose concepts/arts needs to be approved by their original authors, or to be made by us.

Spoiler Finished leader concepts :

Spoiler Louis XIV France :

France – Louis XIV – The Sun King :king:

- When you conquer a city, you gain :c5greatperson: GWriter/WArtist/GMusician points in the capital and a temporary :c5culture: Culture and :c5production: Production boost in all cities.

- Each World wonder provides +2 :c5war: Military supplies

- Theming bonus are doubled in the capital ( :tourism: Tourism and other yields)

This is an attempt at providing a UA allowing to play aggressively while using Tradition (although, as would say ElliotS, there are always alternative ways to use a civilization efficiently).

This UA keeps the French conquest bonus, but uses it for different purposes :
- Because it gives production, the first bonus can accelerate the production of wonders, and these wonders will provide the military supply necessary to stay a relevant military power even when having only a few non-puppet cities (it is often said that wonders that give military supply are among the most useful for Tradition players ; well, with this UA, you are much more free in your decisions on that matter)

- The first bonus also provides GWorks every two cities taken. This means that France can trigger a lot of theming bonus if it build the needed buildings and wonders, but Napoleon is a leader much more focused on military/expansion matters than on cultural ones, and so the rewards needed to be of importance to justify losing focus on more "material" matters. Well, with Louis XIV, each theming bonus will be of importance in your capital city (which will surely have a lot of wonders in it anyway), and so using your GWorks to trigger them can become a boon for you. It is also a way to bring back the French vanilla UA, while giving it some more utility (now that tourism makes the integration of conquered cities easier and strenghten your trade routes).

For the AI personality, Louis XIV would be quite a guarded fellow, with an intense focus on wonder creation and culture while also being quite warlike. He wouldn't be very interested in science generation, but would like to work his specialists (to make the Grande École still relevant).

Spoiler Christian IV Denmark :

Denmark – Christian IV – Dominium Maris Baltici :viking:
- Embarked units have +1 :c5moves: MP and and pay just 1 :c5moves: MP to move from sea to land

- Land units Zone of Control affects enemy ships and embarked units, and ship units ZOC affect land units

- Cities on other landmass provides :c5greatperson: GAdmiral points and gain a free merchant specialist

While keeping the mobility of their fellow Vikings ancestors, the Danes under Christian IV would be much more focused on map control and colonisation than on pillage (also it won't hurt sometimes to attack some neighbours to trigger the effect of the Runestones).

Indeed, thanks to the second bonus (whose feasibility hasn't been proved for now unfortunately), a fortified unit on a island with a fort would become quite a nuisance to nearby enemy ships, while coastal assaults would also cripple the enemy ability to move his land forces on the coast. This ability would also mean that attacking Christian IV with ships during the early game would be risky, since land units could prevent a retreat by putting ZOC on their path.

The third bonus allow several things : first, it can use the food Danish unique buildings both provide to make you gain Great Merchant points and gold (it also synergizes with the Ancestor Worship pantheon) ; second, by providing GAdmiral points, it increases your naval strength and can make you gain valuable Luxury Resources throughout the game. The condition for these bonus can be bothering, but Denmark has the tools to settle on islands and exploit them more easily than most civilizations (and the Longship of the 3/4 UC modmod allows you to traverse oceans earlier, so that you can settle uncharted lands).

For Christian IV personality, I would like to make him focus much more on culture, science and GP (he was a patron of arts after all), but also make him an expansionist who doesn't shy away from conflict and fortifies his territory quite a lot.

Spoiler Theodore Roosevelt America (by pineappledan) :

America - Theodore Roosevelt - Bull-Moose Party :ar15:
- All land military units have +1 Sight

- +1 :tourism: Tourism for unimproved land tiles you own outside one of your cities workable range

- +20 % border expansion in all cities for every intimidated :c5citystate: City-State (max. at +60 %)

This UA take the American propension to want to buy tiles and alters it. Roosevelt will also want to acquire a lot of territory, but most of his territorial expansion will come from natural border growth, and he will want to go further to create sorts of natural reserves to boost his tourism (which we know can provide a lot of bonus aside of CVictory). Because of this, he will want to have the workable tiles around his cities acquired as quickly as possible to begin creating his reserves.

His third bonus comes into play here : as we know, Roosevelt was a partisan of the "Big Stick Diplomacy", and liked to parade the US military might for political gains throughout the Americas. Ingame, he will be able to make so that his troops (and later his nukes) can indirectly benefit his expansion (which, added up with the American unique National wonder, will provide plenty of tourism in the late game). However, it will be up to you to build this menacing military presence, and few are the bonus that will help you.

Spoiler Kublai Khan Mongolia :

Mongolia - Kublai Khan - Dai Ön Ulus
- Mounted ranged units gain +2 :c5moves: MP and ignore ZOC

- All units gain +10 % :c5strength: CS against the units of a civilization for each level of cultural influence this civilization has over you (+10 % CS when exotic, +20 % CS when popular, +30 % CS when influent, +50 % CS when dominant)

- When you conquer a City, gain an amount of :c5culture: Culture increased by the number of additionnal Policies the controler had over you

If Gengis Khan is the anti-diplomatic victory leader, then Kublai Khan is the anti-cultural victory one. With him nearby, you may want to avoid having too much tourism to not give him bonus against you.

While playing as Kublai Khan, you may want to avoid conquering cities of a civilization you just to pillage, since gaining too much culture will diminish your combat bonus with all civilizations.
In the end, Kublai Khan will be all about balance between periods of cultural poverty during which you strengthen other elements in your empire, and periods of conquest where all the cultural delay you had will serve to overpower your opponent and gain great amounts of culture.
Now, the puny artists will work for you !

Of course, Kublai Khan will be quite a warmongering fellow who promotes growth, expansion, science and production while being totally uninterested by producing culture. This means that, if contained, he will be easily influenced, but let him expand and develop his military might, and he can use your culture and tourism against you.

Spoiler Oscar II Sweden :

Sweden – Oscar II – Nothing Exceeds the Limits of the Stars
(reworked with the help of Moi Magnus)

- Great Generals gives +15 % more :c5strength: CS.

- When entering a new era, enter a :c5goldenage: GAge whose duration scales with the number of unlocked :c5culture: policies

- When unlocking a :c5culture: policy, all cities enter a :c5happy: WLTKD whose duration scales with the number of unlocked :c5science: technologies

Spoiler Mehmed II Ottomans :

Ottomans – Mehmed II – Devshirme

- +30 % :c5strength: RCS/CS to all units when attacking capital cities

- All ally :c5citystate: CStates will offer you units at the same rate as friendly military CStates (military CStates work normally)

- +1 :c5happy: global happiness for each city with a garrison

All these bonus revolve arount the creation and utilisation of military units, but still leaves you much choice in their utilisation :
- The first bonus is the most straitforward of the three ; it makes you much more proeficient at taking down Tradition capitals, and often the economic heart of other empires (thus, it is also a minor boost to vassal creation). Also, it allows you to conquer CStates more easily if needed (the numbers may be tweaked, but the idea is here).

- The second bonus allows you to focus on other things than unit creation if needed in times of peace (so it is a boost to your general economy in the end) : it also be used to quickly field a force (in conjonction with your UBs) to surprise your opponents who thought you were playing a peaceful diplomatic game.

- The third bonus can give you much happiness and is polyvalent so that you can counter puppet unhappiness or simply give useful happiness boosts during peacetimes (it may be a little too powerful, but time will tell).

As always, one of the problem for the Ottomans will be to find enough gold to finance their everyday life and not be drown by poverty unhappiness.

In terms of personality, it's obvious that Mehmed II will be very warlike and will want to produce offensive units. He will also try to bring nearby CStates into his sphere of influence so that he can regularly obtain troops. A very imperialistic leader, indeed.

Spoiler Tiglath Pileser III Assyria :

Assyria – Tiglath Pileser III – King of Four Quarters
(with suggestions from pineappledan)

- When you conquer a City for the first time, gain either a Technology already known by the owner, or a large :c5science: Science boost, and +1 :c5citizen: Citizen in your capital.

- The first copy of any Military Unit is maintenance free

I wanted to highlight the "mass deportation" element of the Assyrian empire, so I choose to boost the base Assyrian UA, while also keeping what pineappledan suggested.

This version of Assyria allows you to benefit economicaly from a diversified army and to create a massive capital city if you are successful in your conquests. If you choose to boost your military to the point that your science and growth suffer from it, then this UA helps you not falling behind and keep your maintenance costs quite low.

In terms of personality, I think TPIII should be very agressive and focus on production, unit production, unit diversity, culture and GP generation (so that he can accumulate GWWriting) and less on science and growth (logically).

Spoiler Hammurabi Babylon :

Babylon – Hammurabi – The 282 Laws
(based on suggestions by pineappledan)

- Gold investments in buildings reduces their :c5production: Production cost by an additional 15 %

- +10 % :c5production: Production to Courthouse per policy adopted

- +2 :c5production: Production and +1 :c5greatperson: GDiplomat point in capital for every Courthouse in empire

This version of Babylon rewards having a great number of annexed cities while still having a lot of policies. If you succeed in balancing these two aspects, then annexing cities will require far less time (since the increased cost from number of cities will be compensated by this bonus), your capital will become a production behemoth and you'll be able to spawn GDiplomats on a regular base. If not, then you'll be crippled quite quickly. It is a high risk / high reward version of Babylon focused on conquest, but not offering you much military bonus (the capital production being the only thing that can make you more powerful militarily than base Babylon), so it will put your skills on the test.

In terms of personality, I think Hammurabi should be an offensive-minded leader, with a high-focus on culture, science, GP and infrastructures (so he will build roads between his annexed cities and gain much gold that he will use to invest in buildings). He will also try to befriend and protect CStates to expand his sphere of influence.

Spoiler Mutsuhito Japan :

Japan - Mutsuhito - Meiji Reformation
(based on suggestions by pineappledan and HungryForFood)

- +1 :c5culture: Culture and :c5faith: Faith from Defense and Military Training Buildings

- + 30 % :c5culture: Culture, :c5production: Production and :c5science: Science during :c5goldenage: GAges (instead of +20 % Culture and Production)

- Gain +4 :c5goldenage: Golden Age Points, scaling with era, for each tech behind the tech leader.

...

In term of personality, Mutsuhito will be quite similar to Napoleon : bold and agressive, with a focus on science, culture, production and military buildings. The main difference between the two fellows is that Mutsuhito will be much more focused on naval warfare than Napoleon and will be far less forgiving in his diplomacy.

Spoiler Umar Arabia :

Arabia - Umar - Al-Farooq
(based on suggestions by Jarula)

- :tourism: Tourism from Historic Events increased by 20 %

- Conquering a city triggers an historic event

- Historic events provide a medium amount of :c5faith: Faith, scaling with era

- All units receive a +30 % :c5strength: CS combat bonus for 25 turns when you Found, Enhance, or Reform a religion or capture a Holy City.

This take on Arabia will focus on Religion, Warfare and Historic events. Attack your neighbours in the early game to generate faith by taking weak cities and winning wars so that you can found a religion and launch actual invasions against strong opponents using your fourth bonus. Since you'll also gain a good amount of Tourism in the early game this way, don't forget that you'll surely have bonus to TRoutes and conquest with some civilizations.

This leader will likely suffer from a stagnating world stage, so use every opportunity at your disposal to conquer and weaken your neighbours, but beware having too much of a bad reputation in the early game, since you'll want to trade so that your economy doesn't suffer too much. Also, taking a holy city is a good way to boost your war efforts.

Another minor focus of this leader is GProphet/GPeople generation thanks to the combination of the first and third bonus : you'll gain a lot of faith and tourism by making one of your cities focus on GP point generation.

In term of personality, Umar will be quite bold and agressive and will use a large amount of mounted units. He will concentrate himself on production, faith and GPeople generation with minor focus on Tourism and Trade.

Spoiler John III Sobieski Poland :

Poland – John III Sobieski – Fidei defensor
(with the help of adan_eslavo, Enrico Swagolo, pineappledan)

- When you complete a favorable peace treaty, gain a small amount of :c5faith: Faith and :c5food: Food, scaling with era. Multiply that amount by the number of civilizations fighting against the same opponent (+100 % by civilization, +100 % if the opponent has a different Majority religion than yours).

- All Melee Mounted units have the “Movement to General” and "Heavy Charge" promotions.

- +10 % :c5faith: Faith and +5 % :c5war: Supply cap from population per Declaration of Friendship and Defensive Pact.

John III Sobieski, leader of the largest cavalry charge in history at the battle of Vienna in 1683, is quite interesting in both his mechanics and his personality, for they can seem quite counter-intuitive at first.

Although being very efficient in his use of cavalry (he can wreck havoc on enemy formations until the end of the Industrial era) and GGenerals, and benefiting from winning wars, John III is not a classic warmonger (or at least his AI won't be), for forging alliances and entering joint wars is crucial for his playstyle. He should try to be friendly with most civilizations, while mercilessly fighting one, if possible an empire hated by its neighbours.

By winning joint wars (which doesn't require conquering cities, only killing and pillaging, so that you don't get perceived as a warmonger too much), you can get huge boosts to your growth and faith (in the early game, that means that you can win wars to create a religion). At the same time, maintaining strong military alliances will help you convert this growth in Military Supply, so that your armies stay important in size, and will boost your faith generation (barely noticable in the early game, this boost will become very important in the middle to end-game).

Try founding a religion to get more chances of being of a different majority religion than your opponents, so that you can get more yields from winning wars (it will help you if you find yourself a bit isolated).

Sobieski's personality will be quite peculiar : very bold, loyal and focused on military, he will be quite unforgiving and will hate warmongers. He will try to focus on both military and cultural buildings, and will maintain a very large cavalry if possible. He will also try to use his friendly relations for trading, so that he can compensate for his lack of science and gold.

Spoiler Victoria Britain (uses England UCs ; collaboration with HungryForFood) :

Britain - Victoria - Sun never Sets
- All naval and embarked units gain +1 MP, Naval unis gold maintenance reduced by 25 %

- Gain +1 Trade Routes for every 6 cities owned and every vassal

- Can send :c5gold: Gold Internal Trade Routes, yields calculated as if it was International. (gives Culture and Science as if you're trading with an allied city state ; yields affected by distance)

Developped jointly with HungryForFood, this version of Victoria will use the same unique components as Elisabeth I's England, but will be much more focused on expansion and trading.

The most unique feature of this leader is her ability to keep her TRoutes safe by not having to send international TR to gain gold : internal TRoutes, when between cities at a good distance from each other (for these TR will be affected by distance, contrary to normal internal TR) and with the appropriate buildings, will provide plenty of gold, and, the more you expand, the more TRoutes you'll gain, allowing you to maintain a healthy and flexible economy.

At the same time, her first bonus, combined with the Ship of the Line, will make her dominate the seas, so that you can protect your colonies or attack enemy coastal cities. Vassalizing and puppeting will be good ways to increase your TR number without hindering your economy too much.

Spoiler Frederick I Germany :

Germany - Frederick I - Iron Crown
- For every 3 City-State alliances, receive 1 additional Delegate in the World Congress.

- When conquering a city (for the first time), gain :c5influence: Influence with all met CStates, scaling with era.

- When finishing a CState quest, gain :c5faith: Faith, scaling with era.

Spoiler Louis IX France :

France - Louis IX - Primus inter pares
(with help from Enrico Swagolo)

- Diplomatic units can be bought with :c5faith: Faith (with high cost and cooldown) and have the "Voice of the Fair King" promotion.

- Rewards :c5goldenage: GAge and :c5happy: WLTKD with :c5faith: Faith in cities (with an amount scaling with era).

- Gain :c5greatperson: GWAM points in capital whenever a city is converted to your Main Religion for the first time (amount increased by the number of already converted cities, with a cap).

Voice of the Fair King : "Instant 25 :c5food::c5culture::c5production: in the capital when Diplomatic unit is expended during a GAge or WLTKD, stacking, but neither bonus scales with era".

Gaining more benefits from peaceful relations than from warfare, Louis IX will reward you greatly if you are able to maintain a virtuous cycle of diplomacy, faith production and WLTKD/GAge points generation.
When not in WLTKD or GAge, your bonus will be limited but still useful. Use your missionaries to expand the influence of your main religion (it being yours or not) in order to quickly gain GWAM points and increase your tourism and culture. Buying Diplomatic units won't weight on your economy if you have enough faith, so don't hesitate to take beliefs giving you plenty of faith when founding a religion.
When being in a WLTKD or in a GA, your bonus will increase a lot : your capital will benefit from each diplomatic unit you produce (don't forget that you can use the production gained to produce more diplomatic units), and you'll gain plenty of faith so that you can produce more missionaries and diplomats.

All three Medieval policy trees can synergize with this UA :
- Fealty will help you to benefit more from your faith production and will increase the benefits of WLTKD, so that your GMerchants can have huge effects on your economy
- Statecraft will increase the benefits of the Diplomatic units you'll inevitably produce and will boost your capital even more
- Artistry will help you to trigger more GAges, and will increase the benefits of the GWorks you gain through your third bonus

I don't really recommend it, but maybe taking both the Fealtry and Artistry policy trees could produce interesting results.

Spoiler "Unpolished" leader concepts :

Spoiler Vercingetorix Celts :

Celts – Vercingetorix – Pride of Gergovia

- Has a unique set of Pantheon Beliefs.

- When killing an enemy unit, gain :c5greatperson: GEngineer and GMerchant points in your capital (1x CS of the killed unit)

- All Military land units have the "Carnyx" promotion (whenever the unit dies, all adjacent allies gain the “Battle Fury” promotion (+15 % :c5strength: RCS/CS) for 10 turns).

=> Changes the names of the Scythed Chariot promotions
=> Changes the name of the Pictish warrior to Galatis

First, I'm not sure about the name of the UA. Do you have other suggestions (I have searched for quotes from the Commentarii de Bello Gallico, but I decided that I didn't want to use the Latin point of view on that matter) ?

While retaining the unique Celtic pantheons, Vercingetorix is less faith focused (although the Pictish warriors can still create a religion by themselves) and cannot contain the effects of his pantheon among his converted neighbours, which can be dangerous.

The second bonus allows you to strengthen your economy by fighting in offensive or defensive wars (or by killing barbarians). In the early game, use your unique units to harass your neighbours and kill as much units as possible to quickly gain GPeople. Settling just next to your opponent is also a way to provoke attacks against you and generate more GP points while benefiting from "anti-warmonger" combat bonus.

The third bonus allow you to create sorts of temporary GGeneral ersatz throughout your frontline by sacrificing units : it can allow some comebacks, diminish the dangers of focusing on powerful enemy units with less powerful ones, but requires the production of additionnal troops to stay useful (also, don't sacrifice your elite units for that, use your shirtless warriors ! :mischief:).

In term of personality, he will be focused on expansion and infrastructure. He will try to form alliances and defensive pacts when possible, but will also attack his weakest neighbours. When at war, he will use a lot of mobile and defensive units, but will have difficulties in sieges.

Also, he will have the sickest war theme (a rearranged version of the soundtrack of an Asterix movie by the creators of the MC's Gallic civilization).
Spoiler Vercingetorix war theme :

Spoiler Itzcoatl Aztecs :

Aztecs - Itzcoatl - Triple Alliance
(by pineappledan)

- Gain :c5gold: Gold and :c5faith: Faith from kills.

- Declarations of Friendship act as Defensive Pacts and vice versa.

+1:c5goldenage: GAP in every city for each Declaration of Friendship, Vassal and CS ally, scaling with era.

Spoiler Huitzitzihuitl Aztecs :

Aztecs - Huitzitzihuitl - End of Ayatl
- Gain :c5goldenage: GAge points and :c5faith: Faith from kills.

- During :c5goldenage: GAges, +25 % :c5food: Food in cities and 25 % of :c5food: Food is carried over after a new citizen is born.

- +1 :c5gold: Gold to tiles with access to Fresh Water.

Spoiler Deganawidah Iroquois :

Iroquois - Deganawidah - Great Law of Peace
- Forests and Jungles acts as Roads for Units and can be used to establish :c5trade: City Connections

- Gain 15 :c5influence: Influence when you spread your main religion in a CState already of your main religion.

- Gain 15 :c5influence: Influence with all met CStates of your main religion when you expend Great Prophets.

- Gain 30 :c5faith: Faith when completing Diplomatic Missions, scaling with Era.

With these bonus, you are required to maintain a strong religion to be able to benefit from increased influence, which can be quite tricky, so you'll have to specialize yourself a bit (by taking the Church and Evangelism/Pacifism/Resilience/Ritual/Scripture beliefs).
Nevertheless, succeeding in keeping a strong religious grip on CStates will still allow you to maintain alliance easily. For the most faraway CStates, you can use diplomatic units, and they'll help you maintaining a strong religious core by rewarding you with Faith when expended.

If you are successful in converting other civilizations to your religion, and so in having a religion with a very wide influence, taking the Resilience belief (which decreases the cost of GProphets) will allow you to gain plenty of Influence all around the world. In a more contested religious game, increasing the conversion strength of Missionaries seems like a better choice, for it will allow you to consistently suppress rival religions.

One difficult thing with this UA is that you'll gain no faith during the "religion creation" phase, so investing in Shrines early one and expending to create more of them will be required (fortunately, the fact that one more religion can be created in all games since the last versions of VP helps a lot).

Spoiler Hadrian Rome :

Rome - Hadrian - The Traveling Emperor
- When you conquer a City, the City retains all valid Buildings and you immediately acquire additional territory around the City.

- During :c5goldenage: Golden Ages, +50 % improvement rate to all units

- +2 :c5food: Food and +3 :c5goldenage: GA points to Forts and Citadels

- +1 :c5gold: Gold to all improvements on the path of a :c5trade: City Connection (so shortest Road/Railroad between two cities)

With these bonus, Hadrian will focus on the two improvements Rome love the most : roads to move your troops and then connect your cities, walls of forts to protect yourself when needed. Two of these bonus soften the downsides of these infrastructures : when connecting cities and covered by improvements, roads will be basically free (then will even have a positive maintenance cost with Authority) ; Forts and Citadels will become viable tiles to work during the first half of the game.

During GAges (which will come often if you are battling, thanks to the Colosseum), you can bring Legions (and later Workers) to create Forts and Roads at an astonishing rate, or use Workers to repair a large amoung of pillaged tiles so that newly conquered (and expanded, thanks to the Roman UA) cities can become useful quickly.

Spoiler Early leader concepts :

Spoiler Hatshepsut Egypt :

Egypt - Hatshepsut - Expeditions to Ta Netjer
- Artifacts gain +5 science and +5 culture, and Landmarks gain +5 tourism and +5 gold

- Having a Trade Route with a major civilization provides some of the benefits of an embassador (so you'll be able to negociate WCongress resolution with all the civs with which you have a TR)

- You can send multiple Trade Routes to the same city

- Barbarians can't plunder your Trade Routes

Spoiler Alexander Greece (concept by pineappledan) :

Greece – Alexander – To the World’s End
- Great General aura has +1 Range

- Whenever a GGeneral is born, if a GGeneral already exists, expend the new GGeneral, and the existing GGeneral gain a +10 % CS bonus to its aura (maximum of +60 %). If the maximum bonus has been reached, gain GDiplomat points.

- When conquering a city, all units heal 25 hp

- War Weariness is reduced by 25 %

(- All settled cities are called "Alexandria")

Pericles replaces Alexander as the possessor of the "Hellenic League" UA.

Spoiler Artaxerxes I Persia :

Persia - Artaxerxes I - Long-Handed
(based on suggestions by pineappledan)

- Golden Ages last 50 % longer

- Gain positive tourism modifiers with civilization with an trade agreement (+10 %), an open border agreement (+15 %), a defense pact agreement (+ 20 %) or a declaration of friendship (+25 %) with you.

- During GAges, the units of all allied City-States gain +30 % CS and +1 MP, and all CStates and vassals gain a +30 % production bonus toward military units.

The goal here is too create a version of Persia geared toward proxy wars and manipulation of other civilizations. I don't know if these ideas are possible to code, and these bonus will need heavy rebalancing.

Spoiler Zhu Di China :

China - Zhu Di - Perpetual Happiness
(based on suggestion by pineappledan)

- +10 % :c5food: Food from :c5happy: WLTKD

- Building wonders and demanding tribute from City-States trigger a :c5happy: WLTKD in all cities

- Demanding tribute to :c5citystate: CStates cost half :c5influence: Influence, and can be done when being friendly, allied, or when protecting the targeted CState (your military becomes several times more effective at intimidating CStates in these situations).

Spoiler Muluc Mayas (with help from pineappledan) :

Mayas - Muluc - Star War
- After researching Calendar, all Military units gain the "Star War" promotion (Gain :c5faith: Faith and :c5science: Science from kills ; gain :c5food: Food in nearest city and additionnal heal from pillaging ; gain :c5production: Production and :c5culture: Culture in nearest city when the unit dies ; unit may attack twice per turn ; lasts 15 turns) at the end of every Maya Long Count cycle (every 394 years).

With these bonus, Mayas will be able able to unleash sudden and deadly assaults where they'll make you gain yields whatever the results of your attacks. The ability to attack twice per turn is particularly powerful when combined with the Atlatlist special bonus.

Knowing the turns corresponding to the end of every Long Count cycle will be crucial to a successful utilisation of these bonus. In the early game, you'll obtain it regularly, so don't shy from protracted wars if necessary : if some of your units die, bonus production will help you create replacements which will benefit from the Star War promotion soon enough.
However, later in the game, you'll have to keep in mind that new units won't gain the Star War promotion before a while, and so prudence is advised.

Combined with a good utilisation of the Star War promotion, the unique Mayan improvement will give you plenty of faith and science that will let you found a religion and maybe gain the technologies needed to maintain a superior military force. Beware of unhappiness though (the Star War promotion will only compensate for the loss of units, but won't help you build your infrastructures).

Spoiler Mansa Musa Mali (uses Songhai UCs) :

Mali - Musa I - Golden Hajj
- Rivers can create :c5trade: City connections

- +10 % :c5gold: Gold and :c5faith: Faith in Empire for each Global monopoly

- Starting the Medieval era, can buy :c5greatperson: GPeople with :c5gold: Gold (works the same way as GP faith purchase : very high cost which increases each new time and long delay between each acquisition)

Spoiler Peter I Russia :

Russia - Peter I - Grand Embassy
- All Strategic Resources provide double their normal quantity.

- :trade: Trade Routes with friendly civilization provide double their :c5science: Science and :c5culture: Culture bonus.

- When settling a city, gain :c5greatperson: GDiplomat points (1/5) and :c5production: Production in your capital, scaling with era.

This UA focus on quick expansion and resource acquisition, and then on the use of diplomacy to soften the afterblow :
- Gaining production in your capital each time you settle, you'll be able to create a lot of Settlers quickly if you want (or to quickly build a wonder if you create your Settlers in other cities), and so you'll be able to seize a lot of Strategic Resources in the early game (which, with your first bonus, will give far enough resources for your military).
- Use the excedent resources to gain gold and make friends. You may even be able to avoid too much conflicts if you make your neighbours dependent on you.
- Every five cities settled, you are garanted to obtain a Great Diplomat. That means that you can make yourself a CS ally early in the game if you want, or make a long-term investment by building Embassades as quickly as possible. Early CS allies will help you not drowning in unhappiness.
- If you are able to create lasting friendships with other civs, then sending TRoutes to them is crucial. Because you have built a lot of cities, you'll often have difficulties in term of techs or policies, so TRoutes are your way out of stagnation.

Another strategy could be to stay small so that other civs stay friendly. That way, you can leech other civs while focusing on other things, and suddenly expand when needed.

Also, the production/GDiplomat bonus requires you to settle, so razing can be a good idea when conquering (he is quite the opposite of Hammurabi on that side).

Spoiler Oda Nobunaga Japan :

Japan - Oda Nobunaga - Gekokujo

- +1 :c5culture: Culture and :c5faith: Faith from Defense and Military Training Buildings

- GGenerals can be expended to found cities with free defense and military training buildings (depending on technological level)

- When conquering cities, gain GGeneral points, scaling with era.

(Tokugawa Ieyasu gains the "Shogunate UA")

Spoiler Brennus Celts :

Celts - Brennus - Journey to Galatia

- Has a unique set of Pantheon Beliefs

- Civilian land units have the "ignore terrain cost" and "Medic I" promotions

- When settling or conquering a city, gain a Military land unit and a Worker.

This Brennus isn't the one who attacked and pillaged Rome during the the 4th century BC. He was one of the chiefs leading the Gallic invasions of the Balkans (leaving Gauls to settle other lands), and is famous for his attack on Delphi. Although he failed and was killed in the aftermath, his men were the one who later founded the kingdom of Gallatia, in central Anatolia.

In term of bonus, this leader is all about expansion : his civilians will be able to travel as fast as his scouts and will help their escort surviving, so settling far away is much easier in the early game. By obtaining a military unit and a worker whenever settling, Brennus can also quickly improve and protect his new holdings, and maybe launch expeditions against neighbours, using his unique units.

Like Vercingetorix, Brennus will benefit from the unique Celtic pantheons, but without the "protective" bonus Boudicca has. It means that foreign pressure can become an issue, even more for Brennus, who'll have faraway cities, more exposed to conversion and attacks.

Beware of isolation unhappiness and excessive growth. You'll have to find ways to connect, protect and develop your territories, or the benefits of your bonus will come back to bite you.

Spoiler Cetshwayo kaMpande Zulus WIP :

Zulus - Cetshwayo kaMpande - Legacy of Isandlwana

- All units requires 25% less experience for promotion

- Whenever you kill a unit, gain Tourism with its civilization, increased by the number of additionnal technologies this civilization has over you

-

Spoiler Hannibal Barca Carthage WIP :

Carthage - Hannibal Barca - Father of Strategy
- Cities produce 175 Gold when founded, scaling with era

- Melee Land units have the "Hannibal ante portas" promotion (Gain +10 hp and additonnal Gold from pillaging ; when beginning its turn adjacent or on the same tile as a GGeneral, gain +1 MP)

- Cost of purchasing Units is reduced by 5 % per CS friend (maximum of 15 %)

this is something you could also easily release 1 at a time until they are all done, unlike 3/4uc

Well, that's what happened at the beginning of the 3/4 UC mod : a lot of individual civilizations, slowly gathered up and integrated into a bigger mod.
I think the best, less exhausting, method would indeed to regularly release small leader packs (of 3 to 4 leaders) and later to assemble the packs into an full modmod.
Thank you for your opinion. :)

What do you think of the UAs ?

good ideas. but then, i hear youre one of 'those persons' with good ideas ;)

Trying to buy me as I see (blushes)... Well, let us hope people are attracted to the project in the next weeks : it would be nice to see Kublai Khan invade China in VP. :D

Jan III Sobieski (The Relief of Vienna/Fidei Defensor):
  • +10% :c5strength: CS for Allied Units during war with Civilization of other Religion (only those who has majority religion).
    • Greatest Battle of its times. He organized troops in very short period and came with help to the sieged by Mehmeds forces austrian capital. After short battle, with help of Winged Hussars he won a battle, and after few other actions whole war. He fought against the greatest muslim army of XVII century.
  • -10% :c5unhappy: Crime.
    • He struggled with many internal problems with nobles and traitors who tried to tie him at war with some other countries (Sweden, Russia).
  • +1 :c5moves: MP for Melee Mounted Units.
    • To express military significance of Winged Hussar in its armies.
  • Each Great Artist, Great Musician or Great Writer provides +1 :c5war: Military Supply Cap when expended. Great Work of Arts provides +1 :c5culture: Culture.
    • He was one of the greatest patrons of art among polish rulers. He also reworked polish military forces (organization, equipement). He made artillery, dragons and winged hussars his main forces.

Well, you've read my idea for Jan (I'll go with instead of John if that pleases you) III Sobieski previously, didn't you ?

Spoiler Jan III Sobieski :

Poland – John III Sobieski – Fidei defensor

- When you complete a favorable peace treaty, gain a large amount of faith and food, scaling with era.

- All Melee Mounted and Armored units have the “Movement to General” promotion and gain +1 MP

So, this new leader for Rohan... I mean Poland, if fully focused on warfare and cavalry warfare, but not necessarily on conquest : you can go pillage your neighbours, kill their units, and then demand peace to gain a good amount of faith (so early warfare can be a good way for you to create a religion). You can also roleplay a bit and come to the aid of an ally if you want ;)
Also, the Movement to General, coupled with the bonus movement means that :
- you'll have some of fastest GGenerals in the game while not having to use a UC for that
- your Winged Hussars will be even more powerful
- your Melee Mounted and Armored units will outpace most units in the game (funnily enough, Mongolian skirmishers will be able to catch them up... cries in Polish)

In term in personality, we can make so that Jan is quite loyal but pugnacious, with some focus on culture, faith and, being Poland, military buildings.
What do you think of this version ?

Jan III Sobieski ==> John III Sobieski
Casimir I The Great ==> Kazimierz I Wielki
Go with version that is more accessible by players. So probably John.

Ok, but comparing to other civs full focus on war is a bit weak. Maybe we could add something related to culture? I know that movement for generals with so fast cavalry is powerful, but if you have no war situation then it is weak. I wanted to make real religion focus. Your proposition is similar to what Montezuma has (only yields are different). I would modify it like this:
  • When you complete a favorable peace treaty, gain a large small (?) amount of faith and food, scaling with era. Triple that amount if opposite site has majority religion other than yours.
  • All Melee Mounted and Armored units have the “Movement to General” promotion and gain +1 MP
  • Each Great Artist, Great Musician or Great Writer provides +1 :c5war: Military Supply Cap when expended. (It can be whatever focused on culture)

That would make partial culture focus beneficial for army. His ruling was almost constant war. But he has time to care for culture. I deleted armored units and made that bonus more situational. it will be present during first 2/3rd of the game. It's enough. Moreover you will be encouraged to make civs with the same religon as your allies. Maybe some crusade?

Personality seems ok. Mainly culture and warfare (like Casimir?). If it will be too similar we can add religion to this. But if you will add religion to UA I think it will be enough. Historically he had just one religious period at Vienna and that's probably all. He had much more other problems to care for. I like this UA totally different from Casimir. It will be different experience.

Huh? Compromise? :high5:

Do you plan to add more than one alternative for some civilizations? Some of them has very long history and could be expanded that way.

RomuloR rome and Muhammed or Abu of Arabia using my old ideas perhaps could be cool...

Huh? Compromise? :high5:

I'm ok with a compromise, and your idea seems good.

So here we are :

Poland – John III Sobieski – Fidei defensor

- When you complete a favorable peace treaty, gain a small amount of faith and food, scaling with era. Triple that amount if the opposing civilization has a majority religion other than yours

- All Melee Mounted units have the “Movement to General” promotion and gain +1 MP

- When a GWriter, GArtist or GMusician is expended, gain +1 Military Supply.

Do you plan to add more than one alternative for some civilizations? Some of them has very long history and could be expanded that way.

Indeed. :)

Here is a list of some additionnal alternatives that could appear :
- Japan : Tokugawa Ieyasu => themed on the Edo period, and so on a capital/specialist/internal TR focus
- France : Louis IX (Saint Louis) => religious, WLTKD and GWorks focus
- Right now, the first alternative leader for Rome will be Hadrian, but I surely try to create the concept for a third leader (maybe Nero, if I want to make people scream)

Here are three new concepts. These aren't as polished as the others, so I put them here before letting them go to the first posts.

Spoiler Tiglath Pileser III Assyria :

Assyria – Tiglath Pileser III – King of Four Quarters
(based on suggestions by pineappledan)

- When you conquer a City for the first time, gain either a Technology already known by the owner or, a large Science boost, and +1 Citizen in your capital.

- The first copy of any Military Unit is maintenance free

Since Assyria isn't considered as very powerful right now, and that I wanted to highlight the "mass deportation" element of the Assyrian empire, I choose to boost the base Assyrian UA, while also keeping what pineappledan suggested.

- Gold investments in buildings reduces their production cost by an additional 15 %

- +10 % production to Courthouse per policy adopted

- +2 production and +1 GDiplomat point in capital for every Courthouse in empire

Spoiler Vercingetorix Celts :

Celts – Vercingetorix – Pride of Gergovia

- Has a unique set of Pantheon Beliefs that no one else can benefit from.

- Whenever a city is founded or conquered for the first time, gain GMerchant points in your capital (1/3 of the jauge)

- Whenever a unit dies, all adjacent allies gain the “Battle Fury” promotion (+15 % RCS/CS) for 10 turns

First, I'm not sure about the name of the UA. Do you have other suggestions (I have searched for quotes from the Commentarii de Bello Gallico, but I decided that I didn't want to use the Latin point of view on that matter) ?

While retaining the unique Celtic pantheons, Vercingetorix is less faith focused (although the Pictish warrior can still create a religion by himself) and cannot contain the effects of his pantheon among his converted neighbours, which can be dangerous.

The second bonus allows Vercingetorix to combine expansion and Town/Oppidum creation (while Boudicca can create GMerchants while staying small in the 3/4 UC mod) to boost his entire economy and create defensive positions throughout his lands (much like the French, with which he shares the ability to gain GP points from conquest).

I'm not totally sure about these bonus, but I have difficulties finding other things. Do you have ideas ?

In term of personality, he will be focused on expansion and infrastructure. He will try to form alliances and defensive pacts when possible, but won't shy from conflict when needed.

I like the idea of that mod. Maybe even if we don't have enough power to do coding for that mod maybe our ideas will find someone later.

W.r.t. I think you should make all current leaders in on post. For now it is too chaotic too find something. Also you can put there those "3rd" leaders you mentioned. Maybe people will love other alternative than what we suggested as "2nd".

As you could imagine I wanted to suggest you 3rd polish monarch: Boleslaw I The Brave - Bolesław I Chrobry. With him we would have almost all history of 1st Commonwealth: Boleslaw (year 1000), Casimir (year 1400) and John (year 1700). Of course we could add Chief Commander Józef Piłsudzki (XX century - 2nd Commonwealth), but that's not necessary. Those are most popular polish kings and princes. If you want more I can find someone.

Why Boleslaw? Here we are:
  • He send first polish martyr Św. Wojciech (aka Adalbert of Prague) to the Prussia to convert them on christianity where he died. King bought his body with gold and burried in Gniezno.
  • He organized Congress of Gniezno (1000):
    • one of the kings invited to the congress was Otto III one of the greatest kings of Germany of those times,
    • they mostly prayed there in behalf of Św. Wojciech,
    • remember that Gniezno was polish capital of that times. Krakow was set up as capital by 50 years later appx,
    • they planned to make big Empire made from 4 different regions, each with its own monarch: Galic, Italic, Slavic and Germanic. Of course Otto III died and nothing happened. European Union was based on that plans at some point.
  • He managed to settle on the throne even with great number of rivals,
  • He won long (16-year: 1002-1018) war with Germany lead by Otto III's successor Henryk II,
  • He claimed lands of Moravia (Chechs), Slovakia, Cherven Cities, Lusatia. Pomerania was under its control.
  • He settled his prince on the throne of Kiev,
  • He coronated himself as first polish king (1025). He did this because pope was dead and turmoil caused by that made that possible.
What we can do for him while making UA? Maybe Diplomatic/Warfare/Expansion? What do you think?

Sorry I cannot suggest anything about monarchs from other civs but I don't know their history so well to tell you who is worth mentioning.

@Hinin do you have you PM blockaded somehow? I couldn't start conversation with you.

For Arabia why not Abu.

Can always found religion when religuon found ef all units get +50% attack bonus for 20 turns. +1 movement and +10% combat strength desert.

Rome idea Romulus

Upon conquest less buildings destroyed
Unique national wonders available earlier all national wonfwon must be built in capital and remain if city is lost.
I love this idea so unique and the best idea of a celebration of rome. Greeks had slaves etc.. Rome historically is all about sophisticated governance...

I like the idea of that mod. Maybe even if we don't have enough power to do coding for that mod maybe our ideas will find someone later.

Happy to see you interested. :)

W.r.t. I think you should make all current leaders in on post. For now it is too chaotic too find something. Also you can put there those "3rd" leaders you mentioned. Maybe people will love other alternative than what we suggested as "2nd".

Ok I'll follow your advice here and create subsections in the first posts with the "finished" concepts, the unpolished ones and the early ones.
I'll also publish all the unpolished concepts I have so that people can read and comment them.

As you could imagine I wanted to suggest you 3rd polish monarch: Boleslaw I The Brave - Bolesław I Chrobry. I'm totally ok with adding a third Polish leader. I'll only have to find some bonus for it.

Sorry I cannot suggest anything about monarchs from other civs but I don't know their history so well to tell you who is worth mentioning.

No problem. My knowledge on Slavic history is quite limited, so any help is welcome.

@Hinin do you have you PM blockaded somehow? I couldn't start conversation with you.

I'll check.

edit : I think you can retry now.

How about diclotean for Rome?

Diocletian you mean ? Maybe with a focus on civil servants and "administrative" buildings.

@Jarula your concept for Arabia is already in the OP, with Umar as the leader.

Muhammed would be a bad choice for leader, not least because depicting him in a video game is super haram.

Any love for my Yongle Emperor idea? Of all the ideas that were tossed around that one was the one I would most look forward to playing.

You should talk to @ScooterDWiebels and @HungryForFood so you aren't stepping on any toes w.r.t. Queen Victoria
