looking good.
definately keeping sal from connecting iron tile is top priority.

Are we going to settle the corn/ivory/gems? An alternative would be to settle it toward the copper and then claim the gems later.

I'm thinking we go IW after masonry then out to construction--maybe adjust settling depending on iron. Seems like we have an excellent start here and we don't want to risk an accident--we should get metal hooked up asap.

My tech preference next would be
Fishing->Writing->IW

As long as we are able to (should) deny AIs from metals and horse. Chariots are enough for defense. Teching IW is more for economic consideration. Our offense can be delayed until WEs/cats. Our major obstacle comes from 4 other AIs oversea, so I prefer to stabilize our economy 1st and then conquer without much delay of our tech pace.

I am also for settling the Corn/Ivory/gem next.

seems reasonable.
My thinking was just that we'll stand well vs the other continent assuming we get the 'mids, and also looks like we stand well on ours so play a little extra safe but your tech path is stronger I agree.

The other continent should have it's own troubles as we don't have a religion on ours.

If Sal or Zara don't found one, do we want to found a religion? Seems pretty useful in AW.

In the AW King of the hill game all ais were at least pleased with each other. Maybe religious strife
drops their attitude towards each other but i don't think they can declare on each other since they're at war with us. But i could be wrong since i don't know too much about these AW settings.

A religion would be very helpful, more than in a more peaceful setting as we don't have to worry about an impending conflict.

I'm not sure either but I thought that they would only be at war with us when we meet them--so until then they could fight amongst themselves.

Was that other game a pangea type map?

The game in the S&T forum was special. You had contact with the AIs from turn 1 meaning that they were already engaged in a war. As a result they won't start another one. I think permanent war or peace was enabled as well to eliminate any risk--but that probably wasn't necessary.

No, Russia was alone on another continent. Difference was Russia knew us from the start (programmed in wb), here they don't so maybe there can be fighting on the other conti. See Rusten just posted the same.

^I think that's the case. But even there's one or two war in other continent. Remember that we can never take benefit from tech trade. So the tech situation is expected to be severe.

If Sal or Zara don't found one religion, then, Phi bulb should be considered 1st. In the worst situation, we might need to research DR to grab the last straw.

Good job on the harrassment so far!

In terms of general strategy

The AI on the other continent will play as normal until they meet us, so hopefully it's not a peacemonger lovefest over there.

Great Spies for infiltration are more useful than Great Scientists for bulbing (typically much more efficient in terms of EP vs Beakers). We do want a religion at some point for the Spy mission cost reduction, bulbing Philo does seem like the best shot if we can't get Oracle for CoL.
The strategy of allowing a foreign AI to capture a lone city close to the capital, for sole purpose of infiltrating to steal techs in the AW deity game proved extremely effective and is something we should seek to emulate.

Played until pyramids, took quite a bit of risk pillaging Zara and Sal back to before the stone age.I did most of the pillaging in groups of 2, later 3 chariots to minimize the chance of an archer counter attack. It went well but it could have backfired. I'm also not totally sure there isn't a mine near lablilela in the south. At least it isn't connected to Zara capital but i think a chariot should go and take a look there.

1520
revolt to slavery

1480
whip worker in hamburg
Pull back chariot on spices for barbs
Switch settler to forge in capital i want to have the 15 extra hammer from the settler whip with forge.

1440
workers toward stone
6 gold pillaged from camp
9 gold pillaged from cottage

1400
Masonry in, 1 worker begins on the stone, the other next turn
Switch to fishing
kill a scout
1 gold from cottage

1360
4 gold from farm
Zara researches IW

Civ4ScreenShot0004-22.jpg

1320
6 gold from farm

1280
Stone connected
switch IW instead of writing since quite a lot of loot is coming in so i think we can make it there without writing.
switch workboat in
8 gold from mine

Whip forge in Hamburg somewhere around here, overflow to chariot.

1240
whip settler
3 gold from pasture
capture a Zara worker near labilela

1200
whip workboat (forgot previous turn)
12 gold from mine
9 gold from cottage

Second time i don't understand the game today, why is the chop going to Hamburg?

Civ4ScreenShot0000-34.jpg

1120
17 gold from a cottage

Sal's getting pretty desperate, unprotected settlers? unfortunately i just couldn't cut it off.

Civ4ScreenShot0001-32.jpg

1080
Sal got his mine up, but he hasn't got a route, more money. coming in here

Civ4ScreenShot0002-30.jpg

1000
capture a Sal worker that is trying to road to the mine.

950
Capture a Zara worker
13 gold from mine

Total gold captured: 88 gold
workers captured: 3

Mids are whippable now (2 turns normal build). We need to pillage one good improvement to get iw in 2 turns. Mines and cottages are good, farms not so good. Now i assume we will build our gem city near the corn. I see 2 possibilities, corn in first ring and on a hill or better placement with both gems in first ring + some extra ivory but corn in second ring and not on a hill. Enough turns played, i hand it over.

Great pillaging, you may have just won the game!

Did Sals settler turn back when you threatened it (as I expect) or did it carry on into the jungle?

Smart move keeping chariots grouped, hopefully we can continue your success until our own resources have been locked down. Once we get a couple of metal units down there I'll start to feel more comfortable.

Good chance we'll have iron, i look forward to seeing those gems go up. Together with the mids we'll really get going then. I'm beginning to wonder how long we can get those ais from metal, if i understood correctly from a TMIT thread the choked ai will keep on spamming archers until it feels strong enough to attack. But that were warrior chokes, if we'll get there with our metal units before they get iron up it may never happen. I think i killed their research too, i was really searching for improved tiles the last few turns as there aren't many left. And i don't think emperor ai can research fast on unimproved tiles.

Good point about the settler, i think it fled into the jungle because i now see it can't have returned home since it has to cross a river. It's probably still wandering around somewhere since i don't think it'll found a city without protection. Happy hunting!

river crossing consume only 1 movement so it could still return home from that tile in one turn.

I'm really surprised to see the AI send it out there with no escort though!

Pretty good, our plan goes well.

Nice set Dirk!

As for the chop--I'm guessing Hamburg was working the tile--that'll redirect the chop.

You're right, i checked and though Hamburg doesn't work the tile anymore i know it has in the past. Switch the tile to Berlin and now chopping goes to Berlin. Good to know that, gives more direction to chopping than i thought possible, i'll certainly use this info in the future. Playing these succession games you pick up quite a bit of useful info that maybe obvious but isn't directly in some manual :goodjob:.

Well, I forgot to bring the pics from home, so I I'll just let the save...

After the tactical briliance of the last set, i didn't had much to do besides finish mids and IW. I also lacked oportunites of pillaging , so I decided to play defense get some good observation points in the enemies land. There are already groups of 3-4 archers roaming around, so we have to take care.....

We have two sources of iron in our land, one of them already mined, in our cap BFC and other in our seafood city.

This is looking good enough. Saladin is completely crippled and Zara is not much better. Now we only need more money to have enough units to take them down.
