Am I going to have to read Donald Trump quotes in Civ VII?

I'm following some of the Firaxis Devs on Twitter, and they're pretty clearly on the left and against Trump, but not overly zealous about getting their political stances out into the world. They have criticized him when it made sense to do so.

I would be very surprised if the company felt like they need to include political cheap shots, as its members don't seem to be in the camp that needs to make everything about politics, and I would be disappointed, because such things are just annoying and take away from the medium as a way of disconnecting from the world, and just leaving into a fantasy where real problems don't exist for a while.

I want to accurately point out that we already have a faction of voting Americans calling for the ethnic cleansing of the United States, and that's the Alt-Right. Richard Spencer is a leader of the Alt-Right, and his stated political position is one of "peacefully ethnically cleansing the United States to create an Aryan Homeland for Americans of European ancestry" his words, not mine.

These guys are not that far removed from Nazism in the United States. And here's the thing about them. There's no ISIS rallies in the US for turning the US into a Muslim Caliphate.

But these are American citizens, in America, that are legally allowed to vote and own firearms. They held a rally with thousands of Alt-Right supporters, NeoNazis, KKK members in Charlottesville. One of them killed a protester protesting their hateful divisive rhetoric, and then slandered her as a fat Communist drain on society. They didn't show up for a peaceful rally. They showed up armed with bats, clubs, shields, and semi-automatic rifles with 30 round magazines.

You can look at my screen name and automatically deduce that I don't have a high opinion of either Nazism or of a quote unquote "peaceful ethnic cleansing" of minority groups.

Politically speaking in these United States, the Alt-Right are a much greater threat to the politics of this country than ISIS which is damn near 10,000 miles away. There's no mass tiki torch rallies for ISIS turning the US into a Muslim Caliphate.

Our current President said that there were "fine people" on their side of the argument, by the way. I disagree, there is no such thing as a "good" NeoNazi.

I'm always offended that I can never play as Adolf Hitler whenever I want to play one of Germany's leaders.

I dont want to play as Hitler the character but the thruth is that to win this game one has to have gaming style "like Hitler".

Well, some people play peacefully, but Hitler doesn't have monopolies on genocide.

As for being playable, while people like Stalin and Mao have done equally as horrific things, they get remembered a bit more fondly in their respective countries. Most Civ leaders are generally more famous than infamous. I mean, let's just say Pol Pot isn't going to be included either.

That is, in fact, even true However, of course, in a very idealistic world you would hope that journalists would try to constructively help build a common society.

I wouldn't expect a journalist to have goals to constructively build a common society any more than I would a baker or a ventriloquist. Yeah I would prefer if journalists have journalistic integrity.. but raising the bar higher than that, especially to oddly specific and at the same time vague heights like "trying to build a common society", that's a bit much

Ha, bad timing. Though would Trump's tweets designed for shock and awe , do well with 280 characters?. It's not like he is going to use those extra characters to add nuance.

Going off tangent, I think Twitter benefited 'bigly' from Trump. I recall reading about Twitter slowly dying, a couple of years back. Now Trump's tweets and tweet responses to those tweets are among the most trending news world over. Twitter seems to be doing extremely well.

To name just one obvious example, that time when his wife wore high heels before entering the plane to Texas because of Hurricane Harvey.

Or all the other times when Trump or one of his family members did something utterly mundane and half of the media and every idiot on social media felt they needed to cry about it 24/7.

When it comes to his actual policies, sure, I'll give you that one.

Like saying that Neo Nazis are fine people ? Or calling people kneeling during the national anthem son of a ***** ? Or lying about Inauguration crowd, or calling the FBI the Gestapo ? Or firing the FBI director via TV ? Or Obama wiretapping him,
Other drama ranges from amusing, Melenia hand slapping and sad face, to the dumb like eating well done steaks. (who cares) I only care if trump gains weight and becomes obese which would be amusing. (because excising leads to early death)

Most of those are again things he does "as" president, not things he does "while being" president.

But of course people are free to enjoy other drama as well, not my business. I'm just glad I don't see Firaxis devs do that all the time, as it would lower my confidence that they're not going to do what some other companies do and start preaching in the game when it doesn't fit at all.

You know, when you posted this, I thought to myself, "Surely I can think of one thing. I don't like the guy at all, but surely there's something he's done right." And I thought about it, but I couldn't come up with anything. Then he fired Price. That was the right thing to do. Once the stories were coming out on Price's travel, I thought, "Oh, this will just be another case where Trump will be a brazen hypocrite, and just talk about the NFL til it all blows over." But he wasn't and didn't. So, not long after you asked the question, I actually did come to feel there was an answer. It's still a pretty poor track record: one right thing in eight months. But at least he's not flawlessly flawed anymore.
