Ambrox Bronze Age Units

Nice. :D
I always wondered what nationality the Firaxis archer represents. Classical Greco Roman or more European?

I've just uploaded a spies set.
Read first post for more infos about this and the other coming set.

Wow, these are awesome. Good work.

ive always wandered why the orginal egyptian war chariot wasnt a chariot archer as i really was what made it special

Next sunday I'll release a set of ethnic CAs based on the model I've just made, and egyptian will be one of them (see below).

However your idea of making a EWC with a animated archer instead of a spearman is really intriguing...:hammer2:.... ;)

Wow, these are awesome. Good work.

Although these spies seem 4 stupid units (and truly they are, of course), they represent a turn point for my (still limited) skill.
Working on them, for the first time I have had to modify mesh geometry, manually assign vertices to bones, rearrange textures in a heavy manner, and so on, all things I never did before in so deep way.
Thus I'm glad to see that they are appreciated.
I hope to do better with next units.

First, Bravo for all your units and work ! And especially all the spearman units ! :D So good job on them ... I downloaded and going to try each of them :)

Thank you Ambrox !

Were chariots with archers more common than chariots with melee weapons, or vise versa? I mean, if I wanted to substitute this with the one in the standard game, which do you think would have been more typical/useful?

Chariots usually had three components; a driver, an archer, and someone who would follow along the chariot who used a spear. The Hittites actually had all three men ON the chariot, which allowed it to move quicker (theirs was more sturdy and could still perform at optimum speed with three riders rather than two). Chariots that had only two "components" to them would usually have an archer. So to answer your question the archer on the Chariot actually makes more sense than a melee unit on a chariot.

No chance to put the egyptian archer on the war chariot instead of the Celtic one? :mischief:

@Dom Pedro
To enforce what The_Capo stated above, it's pretty sure that ALL the early bronze age civs used archers on chariot simply because archery has been a milestone for human history, regarding hunting and, especially, warfare. Egyptian, Babylonian, Assyrian and Hittite archers have had a key role in their armies. Later, when chariot was introduced, is reasonable that the first men to go onboard were archers.

Are you planning on creating a chariot javelinier too?
Thinking to a one-man-chariot, a chariot javelineer is a good idea, far better then the actual chariot spearman. I will put it on my to-do-list. Not for now, however. And absolutely not before that someone will solve the glitch on the CA or will explain to me how to fix it. :crazyeye:

If you refer to a one-man-chariot, the celtic "open" chariot could be replaced by a "close" existing one in a few minutes. The actual two-men-EWC, instead, requires a full work from scratch in order to replace the spearman with a archer. However I'll put it on my to do list, also.

Hello people,

Maybe I have lost something but, is there any model of archer with similar animations, I mean, which throw arrows during melee and ranged combat?

I don't know about you but can't stand any more those archers in blooding knife combats al the time! Am I the only one?

@DC
Afaik, the unique babylonian bowman doesn't use knives combat, but I never tested or played it in close combat to see what happens (i.e if it stays still or throws arrows instead). It lacks the "hurt" anim also.

I've just uploaded a ethnic chariot archers set.
Read the first post regarding the horse coat feature ;)
