Ancient Mediterranean Civs - Greek Epic (by Numitor and ambrox62)

for pasifanos i dont know much but i can tell u about the minoan(cretan)civ.

they were very peacefull, they had no land weapons and in their island crete there were no walls and weapons because they had a fleet that could easily defend their island against any attack.they were very close to the nature and in their wallpaints they didnt draw war or hunting scenes like greeks did later but nature and sports.they had a very powerfull trade and made the "Grammiki Alpha" languarge and alphabet which i think it was the first in the world and it was later used by the myceneans(Gramimiki Bita).Grammiki Alpha isnt tranlated today.crete was divided in four kindoms that were a union very friendly to each other and never had any hostilities.the minoans are famed for their palaces(Anaktora) which was the first in the world and were extremely large but always one floor.the minoan civilization was destroyed merely by the destruction of the volcano of santorini and mostly by the myceneans who rized economicaly something that made cretans less powefull in their trades and later conquered by the myceneans

i am glad to help where i can

Divine Pasiphae, daughter of the sun, witch queen of Crete and wife of Minos, none of your rivals have survived your envy, your Minoan empire is the oldest culture Europe’s. Crete is a country in the deep ocean, fertile and gracious. Your people live in peace and safety, spread over the island in 90 different cities. Being surrounded by the ocean and ruling over it, makes your walls protecting your cities redundant. Your trade routes reach from Sicily to Colchis and Egypt. Even in war, when your warriors grab their battle axe and mount their ships, the Minoans have made a name for themselves, especially when they conquered Athens. [NEWLINE] [NEWLINE]
The love to beautiful bulls is the greatest passion of the people of Crete. As a game and for honor young men and women leap acrobatically along bulls. But when your son suffered Poseidon´s curse he turned into a beast, the Minotaur. He is now half man and half bull and he dwells in a kennel hidden deep in the Labyrinth. Every seven years the defeated Athenians must send seven younglings and seven virgins as a cruel tribute to the Minotaur.[NEWLINE] [NEWLINE] Oh radiant Pasiphae, will you be able to keep the illiterate savages from the mainland away from Crete? Will your empire survive volcanic eruptions and earthquakes? Can you build a civilisation that will stand the test of time?

Merry Christmas!:)

minoan's arent the oldest european culture.there was the cycladic civ before the cretan one and the cretans have copied a lot of things from them

you are wrong, its a question of the definition of "culture"
from my side ad "high" culture

thats exacly what i tell.the cycladic civ was the first hight culture and had trade the first statues the best ships.the differences with the cretans arent much.for example they had less wallpaints.all what i tell is sure

Thank you Manifold, looks like Pasiphae no longer need empty placeholder text. :)

What is goin on with our Civs?
Actually ambrox reported some instability in the latest beta files. So sadly we can't release it now. But we are hoping to get a first version online this year.

\o/ Thats looking great. Very close to what I had in mind to play on. :)

When our Civs are done, we *only* will need a ancient tech tree. :D

and more ancient unit/building art

Oh yes, you are so right. Anyway, buildings, techs and units are connected with techtree. I made some Icons (just the icons) for a few ancient buildings/technologies and offered to Putmalk for Putmalk's Ancient World Mod.

Spoiler :

But I suppouse his Mod is not compatible with our Civs, so if one like to play this AMC civs with pure ancient techs, then
a) "we" may need a own ancient tech tree;
or
b) he need to add our Civs to his mod.
:(

OTOH Putmalk has - of cource - his own suggestions. So most of the icons reflect pure wishes, since the buldings/techs dont exist in his mod. I would love o make even more icons/art work, but art work is the only part I can/will take there (beside ideas and such :D).

Num

They're fab and reflect quite a few of the buildings and techs in my forthcoming mod....except your icons are much better!! Any chance I can steal these too :D?

Sure Rob, feel free to use them as well. I was thinking to release this picture under "Graphics modpacks" - but this is no mod: it don't change anything. It is just a graphic file. Okay, it's a DDS finally - a single file, one may call "somewhat_256" - but still no mod at all.

I will send you more in PM.

Pavlos, we all need to wait for ambrox: he is the one who compiles XML, graphics and everything. :)

Hi guys,

in order to release the mod, we still need a "dawn_of_man text" for Pericles and "defeated text" (3 for each leader) for Pericles, Pasiphae and Leonidas

My first Pasiphae idea:

"Oh, unworthy war loving king, you steamrolled over my brave people, you washed them away like a monstrous wave. Now I feel inundated ... I will leave this mirthless world."

"You feel strong now, puny warrior king? You kicked my sweet bum, but that’s not a heroic deed – I am just a poor woman. Our gods tell, this will have been your last hurrah."

"Shame on you, you true-blue war hero. Do you really call this heroic, pushing a unblamable woman off of her throne?"

Feel free to add anything there, or/and to correct any spelling/grammar mistake. ;)

Here's my attempt at a Dawn of Man speech for Pericles:

May the blessings of Athena be upon you, Pericles, son of Xanthippus! You are the leader of Athens; a prominent and most influential statesman. Your people lived in a powerful and glorious city-state, the educational and cultural centre of the ancient Greek world. They built the Acropolis and wrote literary and artistic works which have endured the test of time. Despite hostilies with other city-states, such as Sparta, in the 5th century BC, you were able to put your differences aside and work together to defeat your much larger neighbour, Persia, on land and sea.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]Pericles, your people stand ready to spread the great Athenian culture to millions. Are you ready to accept your destiny, Pericles? Will you build a civilization that will stand the test of time?

i think that the "spread the Athenian culture" shpuld be replaced by the Greek culture because there is no Athenian culture and all the greeks had the same culture.
also it is good mentioning somewhere that we was made leader through democratic elections.

i dont want to criticize u, i just want to help

my attembt from the spartan defeat.

You proved to be better warrion than us so all the Spartans must die with honor to not see defeat

The Great Sparta has been defeated but the warrior spirit will never die.Be afraid ,the Spartans never surrender

You troops may have defeated ours with puny tricks but in a real fight you would never be victorius.

Well, thanks guys.

I've collected your text and made some adjustments on it. No more flavor text is needed.

New version will be out in the evening.

:)
