AND2 and SVN Bug Reports - A New Dawn 2 ONLY

I was playing Rev940 and I noticed that you can remove jungles without Iron Working, by placing an improvement.

For example, if you have Agriculture you can build a farm, provided its either along a river or on a food resource, even if there's a jungle. Thus, removing the jungle without needing Iron Working. The same goes for the other improvements.

If you don't have Agriculture it will say you need "Iron Working", but once you get Agriculture that requirement disappears (again provided that its either along a river or on a food resource).

This is normal. Removing jungles or forests early is always available, but grants no :hammers:

Thanks for the bug report, this is fixed in Rev941! ;)

Wow, that 'bug' has been around for so long, and then almost as soon as reported, WHAM! Fixed. Awesome.

Is there any documentation anywhere as to how many XP are retained by a unit when it's upgraded? I believe it's more in AnD than in BTS, but I can't find what the values are.

Cheers, A.

Look for the global define "MAX_EXPERIENCE_AFTER_UPGRADE".

Reported bugs get fixed. Unreported bugs only get fixed if the dev team notices during gameplay. Report bugs.

I see. Thanks to you I now realize that to stop early Jungle/Forest chopping you need to set bCanRemoveWithNoProductionGain from 1 to 0. Originally, I just assumed that the CIV4BuildInfos.xml file was broken.

The reason why I care is that I want to prevent jungles and forests from being cleared until much later (around Steam Power) for these reasons:

1) The map looks nicer with some vegetation. Normally, the AI just chops it all.

2)There's already a jungle camp improvement, meaning you can save chopping for later.

3)Being unable to clear your forests/jungles means you have to work around them. You have work with what you got. This adds a layer of difficulty that I like. It also prevents farm spamming.

4)I made it so that you can't build anything higher than cart paths on forests/jungles, except for railroads, meaning that to get to places, you need to go around forests. I think this makes things more realistic. And not having paved roads on every tile is more aesthetically pleasing.

5)Normally, the Guerrilla promotion wouldn't be very useful because all the forests would be chopped. But with more forests it becomes more important.

6)I doubt a classical age civilization could clear the entire Amazon Rainforest.

7)Makes lumbermills more important. The AI wouldn't make many lumbermills, mainly cause it chopped most of its forests before reaching Machinery.

8)You can use Forests to create a nice defensive barrier.

Keep in mind I mostly intended this for the Earth scenario. This helps nerf civs with lots of jungle like India and Ethiopia, who usually run away with the game and have plenty of resources. This also nerfs the civs that would usually colonize Serbia and farm spam the crap out of it.

However, I did loosen some restrictions with Forests that I didn't with jungles. This way the European civs can still get access to resources with forests on them. This is all intended to change the balance of the scenario and give Europe the edge, without permanently handicapping the other civs (all they need to do reach a certain tech to take full advantage of their land). I haven't tested it yet, so I don't know how well it works.

I hope this wasn't too long of a read. Thanks.

To fix: Change the "Safari" improvement name to "Natural reserve". That would be more generic and it's a nicer name :) (reported by Kroji)

No it isn't. I really really hate people suggesting longer names for things that already have a nice short name. I wish I could understand what makes modders so attracted to names that sound like they come straight out of textbooks.

I imagine if you drew a venn diagram, with people who enjoy modding as the left circle, and people who read their textbooks in school classes for fun, they would nearly overlap entirely. ;)

Probably, but that doesn't make it a good thing. Fighting the tendency of names to sprawl out is one of my pet causes. I stopped caring about trying to be perfectly accurate a long time ago. Just find the shortest name that will get the point across and use it.

I am totally fine with simple. "Safari" is fine with me. You asked why it is that long names tend to be chosen, I answered... :p

Ok. I didn't want to frustrate you with this suggestion. We'll keep the name ;)

Hi,

another problem.... fine the save is over 8 mb big, but now the game freezes if i hit enter after this turn. I tried it 3 times. It runs and runs forever - and in the taskmanager it says "no answer"

Save: http://www.file-upload.net/download-10469718/Bismarck-n.-Chr.-1699.CivBeyondSwordSave.html

Oh: Another thing: The great generals dont get ANY promotion anymore. Nothing. They dont get points when i have them in a stack and their command points stay at 5 all the times, even if the soliders on their tile attack...

Use WinRAR or another file compression facility, That should reduce the file size quite dramatically.

@MercuryBluefalc: I've added your issues to the bugtracker. Thank you for the report.

Looking at the bugtracker, Afforess checked that and the GG seem to work fine.

Curious. My GG didnt get anything... but my save is older, i play it at least since 10 - 20 updates. Another thing: Did you test my save? I cant go over 1699 - it freezes and the turn-change never ends. I dont know, whats the problem...

Not yet, I'll look at this ASAP.

SVN 942

I have a recurring bug, or crash to the game.

Attached is the latest save, the various logs and the dump file.

Game will crash on ending turn, it will process so far, then dump self out of memory.

Enjoy.

p.s. I've tried at least 3 times to play on, crashes every time.

Hey, some days ago I was writing about an issue that I can't rebase my air units.
There was no answer (except one). Am I doing something wrong? Is this known to as a bug or is it working properly? I'd be grateful for a short answer.

Airlifting does not work as well.
