Anyone name their units?

It's great to see how many units actually survive; at some point when they get real buff with XP and specialized, I'll rename them "City Killers", "Commandos", "Insurgents" etc..

Yeah, as I said before, it's great to see how many and which units survive. It's even better to see which units survive through multiple wars.

Thats a cool idea. You just gave me an idea for putting the year the unit was formed also to see how long they survive! Though i think it would affect the way i play as i would want to protect certain units.

you don't already? how heartless ! nah i'm teasing, i know you're the more usual case, and i'd bet 100 great prophets "the way you play" as far as war is better than the way i handle wars *giggle*. hubby laughs at me since i do get disappointed when an old vet who's been with me forever loses :(. some are so brave for so long!

I once named every unit by the city, the no. and the type. So we had the first Eralavian Rifles, the second ERalavianRifles. Also, Angels (gunships) Guns (artillery) Armour (Tanks) I had to keep a track of how many of each unit each city had built, which was quite hard, as I ruled half the world.

It was quite good, as it made me really attatched to my men, and feel a great sense of triumph when the 2nd Danzig Rifles took Parisunder covering fire from the infamous 3rd Wogger Guns (Wogger was famous for it's guns.)

Ships always used to be Sword (triream, firagte) Blood and Eye (transports) and Flower (caravel/submarene). If an enemy sunk one they were metr with overwealming force. Now all ships are GWILDS

Owh and I had a spy called 'comic man' in a OCC. He was on a transport, and would sail into enemy waters, inot a city, preform counterespionage if possible, and if not sail on to my other opponent. Neither had espionage defense (costal), and he never ended the turn in their culture, so he was never caught.
Untill that is, the call of duty forced him to do more dangerous missions. He fell, gave nothing away under torture, and was replaced by Comic Girl! (I was reading xkcd on the other pc at the time...)

I tend to rename my Navy, HMS Edinburgh, Glasgow, Freedom etc.

Only thing is it angers me more when its a named unit that I lose!

:p

I often name my units, especially the first warrior (I try to keep him alive, and I'm always sad when he dies), or units that accomplished something special in the game (holding a city against overwhelming odds, or winning a fight when I actually intended to suicide the unite to soften up the defenders). However ...

Honestly, if your subconscious makes you choose sexual body parts as unit names, then it's probably its way of subtly telling you that it wants you to quit Civ for a while, get up from the computer, and actually get laid.

yeah that usually happens after we play, so it's probably on my subconscious quite a bit.

I just attached it a GG to a new privateer and I named it 'Pirate Master'. I know not the most original but works for me!

I name transports Alpha, Beta and so on. Makes it easier to keep track of what each is doing and what units it has aboard. Battleships get the names of the classical gods, starting with Neptune and Poseidon; destroyers just get labelled D1, D2 and so on. I usually train lots of tanks, which get labelled T1, T2 etc. as and when they reach 17XP: at 26XP they become Bash, Thump, Crush and the like - unless they are Warlord units, when I keep the GG's name, sometimes abbreviated.

Funny -- the only units I rename religiously are Praetorians. With a numeral in order of their production; sometimes with the city fromwhich they came. That way the display always reads "1st (Praetorian)", or "2nd Antium (Praetorian)". I like seeing how many survive (through upgrades) to the industrial age.

Our Royal Navy had a tradition of naming some of its ships HMS Invincible, HMS Indomitable, HMS Indefatigable and the like. Their latest fully-stealthed vessel is reputed to be HMS Invisible . . .

i name my Healer Unit ;) (because there is a General attached to it, Medic3/Woodsman3, 40% Heal :D)

other than that, they are all easily replaceable, and if i named them i just would get attached to them

not sure if this applies but I have names my leader some...odd names before that when the other leaderheads greet you and make comments to you, while using your...odd name, can be quite comical as well.
I once named myself " sucka yor ****" or Lick your ass.

I luv it when my enemies continously offer me ...special favors

HMS Incontinent... try it.

I play with WAY too many units to rename them. I mean hell, I end up with what, 30 or 40 battleships on a huge map? Not to mention tanks and stuff.

I did use to rename armies in Civ 3 though, since they were far fewer and more substantial. Ah, armies, we hardly knew ya...

I play the FFH mod and always name Servious?(sp?).................the Octopus Overlords dude with the club "Tiffany" in honor of my x-wife.
